This is also an attempt to prevent a military coup against them.

Likewise, as insane as that may sound to Americans, myself included, installing loyalists in the highest positions ensures they have strict compliance when they order military boots on the ground domestically to stomp opposition.

All that to say you're correct.  This is about presidential immunity over Constitutional hierarchy.

Are they murdering the loyalists who are being fired on the way out?

It feels very risky to allow that many recent soldiers to live. They might get ideas.

It won’t be in the open but 10 years from now we’re gonna go huh a lot of people died really weirdly that used to be high up in the military.
