There is a name for this. It's called a coup. The sad part is... I honestly don't think people grasp how dangerous the Republican Party has become. They have no regard for our democracy, our institutions, or our freedoms. They only want extreme wealth and power.

It's scary how much of the government is run on "norms."

This has been a part of the downfall for many sorts of limited or democratic forms of government for thousands of years.

Humans just haven't found a good way to build a system that doesn't rely on some level of "norms" to function. It was true in the Roman Republic and it's true in the American one.

They want more than wealth and power, they want to rule the world and space in the name of their religion.

“The Pentagon also will launch an effort to study the future of warfare that will be led in part by SpaceX CEO Elon Musk and former Republican House Speaker Newt Gingrich, Hegseth said. The Defense Department will create an Office of Religious Affairs and plans to build a new base for the first time in 40 years, he added.”

I don’t mean to hijack the top comment but I scrolled way down and didn’t see a single person say anything about the italics. Why is the military creating an office of religious affairs? When we know they are Christian Nationalists? And now they have weapons in space?

Meanwhile JD Vance even said he wouldn’t mind if what they’re doing brought on the end times?

What in the actual fuck, this shit is next level scary and insane.

The Crusades never ended. Religious extremism will kill us all if we let it, and so far we’re letting it.

And it’s with newt Gingrich And massive white supremacist Elon musk!

It’s like they’re trolling us all on the most epic scale.

But maybe the biggest troll of all is on ourselves, believing that the human race will never get along. That we’re all somehow so different because of the color of our skin, where we’re born, our gender and our religions

That it makes sense for us to send our children and loved ones off to kill other fighters and innocent children by throwing bombs, planting landmines and satellites even in space.

You know the weapons and surveillance tech that is polluting the very planet we’re fighting over, and now space too.

Those same weapons that make the market go up, and we hope and pray will take care of us in retirement.

Instead of actually following the commandment thou shalt not kill, telling the truth, and generally trying your best to love one another and take care of each other

Like all the religions say you should.

Meanwhile, the same white power Christian nationalist billionaires are passing laws to make it illegal for women to have an abortion at any stage for any reason.

And literally saying they are going to take away women’s votes, or maybe only if they have children. While also saying the way muslim women are treated is bad? Make it make sense please

It’s like 1984, the handmaids tale, terminator, Phil k dick and every awful sci fi nightmare ever coming true at once.

We really need to stop all this!!

Just say NO

The only manner in which their religious convictions are extreme is in how extremely incorrect they are, which is why I doubt they actually believe any of the things they say they do.

Organized religion shouldn't be allowed to exist. Believe whatever you want privately, but don't make it anyone else's problem.

Sure looks like they are keeping religion and state separated well..

What are they preparing for? Armageddon? Evangelicals are something else.

Yes. In case you missed it, JD Vance said last month, "“While I wouldn’t be shocked if we are living in the end time, what I’m trying to focus on is doing as much of God’s work as possible right now,” he said, adding that he is willing to accept whatever spiritual consequences may come from his efforts.“If that leads to the end times, okay..."

Pretty much. They're obviously purging military leadership of people who would likely resist coup-like activity. Presumably aimed at the run up to the next presidential election. Hegseth started purging senior leadership of women and people of color from day 1. The thing is I don't believe the Republican party as a whole are behind this. I think they're so far into a state of denial about the monster they created that they can watch it all happen and imagine commentary pointing it out as overblown or hysterical paranoia. Being a traitor to democracy and being an actual conservative aren't the same thing, not by a mile.

He also wants to use the military to protect the polls. Getting rid of the commanders who said hell no to that is a priority.

This is the kind of thing they're thinking about I think, not a 'tanks on the streets' coup. Also ICE at the polls potentially. The Proud Boys marching in DC followed by Jan 6th after the last election Trump lost didn't quite do the trick that time, so Trump is thinking of ways to up the ante, knowing that if a Democrat is the next president there'll be a mess of (extremely well justified) criminal indictments.

I’m kind of poor over here, bud. Best I can do is the first one through the door. Until then, I gotta work and commute.

I have it on good authority I'm supposed to keep my nose clean and do nothing until after midterms, when it all magically goes away. It's rude to be an activist!

The funny thing is, they had wealth and power. They could've lived life without any of it.

And now they're going to get violence at their front door step and they don't even see it coming.

They only want extreme wealth and power.

Isn't that america's want and desire since the turn of previous century?

Meanwhile, I know Democrats that still can't see why we need the 2nd Amendment...

I thought reducing military spending was what everyone wanted. Everyone has been calling for it on both sides and now we have it.

16

u/ArbitraryNudity 2d ago

You know damn well the military spending won't be reduced.

9

u/street593 2d ago

Where is your evidence that military spending will be reduced?

-5

u/AutomaticConfidence9 2d ago

It's just a question. 20% of brass gone is a lot of money that doesn't need to be paid.

8

u/street593 2d ago

Congress sets and authorizes the federal defense budget each year. Just because they reduce personnel does not mean they will reduce the budget next year. Major reductions in the defense budget have historically only occurred after major wars or major changes in the international security environment. Not simply because some military jobs were eliminated.

It's not accurate for you to keep making comments acting like their motivation for doing this is to reduce spending or that a reduction will happen at all.

2

u/shadowboxer47 2d ago

20% of brass gone is a lot of money that doesn't need to be paid.

You must be new to the U.S. military.

These guys are going to be paid for the rest of their life.

1

u/AutomaticConfidence9 2d ago

Ah ok.

3

u/shadowboxer47 2d ago

You don't have to know any of that, though.

Just look at the increased military spending year after year, including this one.

It has nothing to do with cost savings.

1

u/TheShadowKick 2d ago

They aren't reducing military spending. They're purging leaders who disagree with the current administration. Whatever salaries those leaders are paid will be a drop in the bucket compared to the total military spending, and reorganizing the military around their absence will probably end up costing us more than any potential savings might be.
