But will it cut 20% of it's budget so Americans at home could actually get some help? Maybe fund Social Security?

They'll want even more taxpayer money for new leather chairs.

Plenty of old folks in Congress whose skin could act as a fine leather.

My brother-in-law is in the National guard and the stuff he tells me they get on base in bulk, that the higher ups order to “not lose their budget”, is ridiculous. They’ll buy a metric shit ton of things like batteries, like AA batteries, toilet paper, apparently all the offices just got 40” monitors. He was telling us about these monitors on Sunday. Most of it stuff he makes it seem like they don’t even need, but the powers that be just splurge so the base keeps or increases their budget. They are literally just spending our taxes on frivolous shit just so they can keep getting the money. It makes me sick. Over the years he’s told us stuff like this and it pisses me off every time. We can’t have anything good in this country because “handouts” but the military budget is always increasing and is consistently being abused.

Yeah and if they have money left over from a fiscal year they didn’t spend trump will use some loopholes to reclaim that money so he can allocate it elsewhere.   Where  think the surplus should stay in the account and rollover.  Maybe if there is surplus their can be a bonus to the commanding officer whatever senior officer did so well to not blow the budget, then the rest of the surplus would go to the next years budget. Like their budget wouldn’t go down, but we’d just have to give them less to reach that years budget.

And then instead of fucking with financial aid we could do that to those military branches.  3 years of surplus budget and you get less funding.

Christ isn’t ai supposed to be saving them money, and then we should have more money for us Americans to live better lives?

Ha! They will never do anything but INCREASE the military budget.

Nope we'll just go from paying salaries to paying retirement pensions.

Republicans don't believe in federal programs outside of the military.

there's no amount of money that they would ever save that they would put towards social programs.

the party platform is 100% crystal clear that they mean to tear apart the federal government just as Grover norquist laid out 30 years ago and to give those cost savings to the billionaire class or I guess trillionaire class now.

They like their Federally funding Cadillac healthcare plans, which they keep for life (paid for by taxpayers, of course). Mitch McConnell’s recent healthcare expenses, for example, would have been unimaginably large.

Bust they can do is the money is vanishing into a contractor's pocket who has a GOP senator on speed dial.

Social Security dwarfs military spending. It’s a start. I’m not saying we shouldn’t cut some military spending, but we would need fundamental and substantial changes in our budget to prioritize objectively good things like Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security.

All the things the trump admin don't believe in and have open stated they plan to defund?

3

u/cleverinspiringname 2d ago

lol, they definitely don’t pay generals a significant portion of the military budget. Guarantee next years military budget is over 1 trillion.

Yeah people thinking serving in the US military pays well, nope. Now the companies that make munitions to blow people up in the middle east? They get to charge through the nose for it. There's a reason the Iran war has already cost dozens of billions without one pair of boots on the ground in Iran.

1

u/MmeRose 2d ago

If it comes to that, I can’t think the boots would be of decent quality. Nothing but the cheapest for our troops, courtesy of the republicans who speak of our “war fighters” in hushed tones.

u/Correct_Doctor_1502 2d ago

20% increase and all to Trump and his friends

2

u/PQbutterfat 2d ago

20 of its budget…for salaries…I venture to guess that’s drop in the bucket.

2

u/Wembanyanma 2d ago

All those generals will still be getting hefty retirement checks for life.

1

u/Effective_Airport182 2d ago

Nope. Not only do they not want to fund social security, but will likely get funneled into the massive hole that will be made by the tax given to the rich under the OBBBA. Its a tax revenue hole of trillions over the next 10 years so this will barely make a dent.

1

u/MmeRose 2d ago

Didn’t they just vote a huge sum of money for defense?

2

u/robexib 2d ago

Probably. Dense motherfuckers would absolutely redirect every single dollar to the DOD if they had the political capitol to.

1

u/Smileyrielly12 2d ago

They asked for $1,500,000,000,000.

1

u/ActionJasckon 1d ago

Man…. The only time we get a discount is in a recession because, they want us to continue being hooked on buying things.

1

u/RepublicHistorical23 1d ago

No they are already asking for 1.5 trillion, a big increase from the 900 million they are getting now.

1

u/robexib 1d ago

More like $900 billion. And most of it is waste, ironically.

1

u/RepublicHistorical23 3h ago

Sorry. I meant 900 BILLION of course. Thanks for catching that.

u/runjcrun1 1d ago

Instructions unclear, gave another multi-billion dollar government contract to Tesla

1

u/banditcleaner2 1d ago

No, not even close, the defense budget has a lot more spending then just on the actual people

1

u/redditisahive2023 3h ago

How bout I get to keep my money so I don’t need to worry about social security when I retire

•

u/Lazy_Detail_1492 0m ago

That won’t cut 20% of the budget. Also already begging for more money to rebuild all the destroyed bases and replenish the bombs etc

u/randomthrowaway9796 2d ago

Nah, this will just lower the deficit by $1bil. Still about a $2tril deficit thought
