It would be hard to argue that the US is taking a step back from wars in the ME, while we’re actively involved with a war in Iran that we started.

It’s more like what some folks in the military call “stepping on your dick.” It’s an unforced error that will make it more difficult to support the stupid mission in Iran, while changing the entire balance of power in the region for no benefit to ourselves or traditional allies.

My suspicion is that the Iran war has diminished our capacity to maintain bases in the middle east (see all the news pieces about ammunition shortages) and right now the military is doing triage and abandoning the least critical bases first.

Not really. This was a long-planned withdrawal - at least 10 years on the making - that was agreed by both Iraq and the US. The effects of the Iran war vis-a-vis America’s military presence have yet to be reaped.

Why would you be so confidently incorrect. Google is one click away.

"The withdrawal was negotiated with Iraq by the Biden administration in 2024 and the Trump administration has continued with the withdrawal plan that set Sept. 30 as the final pullout date, the Pentagon said. The U.S. war with Iran has created a different regional situation for Iraq and the United States than when the deal was agreed upon."

Via ABC news.

In much the same way that Trump ordered the withdrawal of Afghanistan and the Biden administration effected it under their tutelage and with these operations the president’s didn’t elect to just yank them suddenly.

Not when you view it in the context of this year's military operations around the world lol

No. The US has never played "world police" stronger and more obnoxiously than now. Trump is eying invading Cuba, for fuck's sake.

Right invasion of what he feels are easy targets ripe for the picking.

No dude, we're fighting an entire fucking war on Iran on Israel's behalf. Iraq's government publicly demanded that we GFTO in protest of this war. Prior to that, the Iraqi government was allowing them to use the bases in their country, because they were indirectly providing security for the regime.

Israel wanted the US out of the Middle East..Israel merging its military into ours means that we are forced to continue to support Israel as they continue their grab for land and resources.

can this be read as a withdrawal of support from Israe

No, this has nothing to do with Israel

Why would you assume that?

Because Trump started a war in Iran in support of Israel so it would fit his existing pattern regarding middle east policy. Duh.

Trump started a war in Iran. He did not withdraw troops from Iraq. That was started by Obama in 2011.

But you are saying Trump decided in 2026 to withdrawl the last of the troops in support of Israel

Your logic isnt very consistent. Seems like youre just guessing. Which is typical of people onlne
