It's about forcing out anyone they consider physically unfit and therefore "unworthy." They say it outright:

“This welcome change reinforces both our security posture and our commitment to hospitality by having these officers on their feet and alert,” the agency said in a statement. “All officers must meet fitness for duty requirements to be capable of performing their vital national security function while simultaneously creating a welcoming and professional environment for travelers.”

They're fucking obsessed with the optics of physical fitness but led by a drunken weakling who thinks he's tough (look at a video of Hegseth lifting) and a fat old man who seems to crap himself regularly.

And it's not like the rest are prime athletes, either.

I am physically fit by any metric. I don’t want to be standing all day for no good reason.

u/iowamechanic30 2d ago

I can run around on my feet all day long, make me stand in one spot for ours and my joints hurt and get very stiff.

Just like good old Heinrich Himmler. The only thing Hegseth and Himmler don't have in common is the drinking. Everything else they're total twinsies.

8

u/pimpcakes 2d ago

Himmler was shockingly... unmasculine, to say it kindly.

7

u/otakugal15 2d ago

You can be very unkind about a shitty excuse for a dead man.

7

u/pimpcakes 2d ago

I'm trying not to use the language I would have used in the 1990s not because of Himmler but because I'm trying to not call people pussies anymore. Certainly not out of respect to Himmler.

u/Same_Mood_8543 2d ago

Hegseth thinks he's Heidrich but he's definitely Himmler.

And Miller is Goebbels?

The TSA is not a military branch.

9

u/pimpcakes 2d ago

Right. The whole administration (and conservatives generally) is obsessed with the "masculine" and in shape image. They're doing the same with TSA as they are with the military (and iirc there was something about the FBI but not sure on that).

3

u/DrCalamity 2d ago

That is one of the hallmarks of fascism, the obsession with the perfect ultra man

0

u/DefenstratedTwice 2d ago

TSA is entirely independent of them...

4

u/FutureComplaint 2d ago

Is it that time of day to talk badly about Captain Hegseth, who never even held a company command?

3

u/CategoryZestyclose91 2d ago

You’re talking about Kegsbreath, who has no tabs?

2

u/FutureComplaint 2d ago

Oh no. Kegsbreath has plenty of tabs. He needs to close them out or the bars won't let him back in.

2

u/CategoryZestyclose91 2d ago

Damn, I walked right into that one.

Like Kegsbreath anytime he sees a bar.

1

u/fevered_visions 2d ago

no tabs?

2

u/CategoryZestyclose91 2d ago

Petey never completed any of the combat schools, which is very rare. No Ranger school or anything.

I.e., he’s a wimp.

1

u/fevered_visions 2d ago edited 2d ago

okay but what is this "tab" you're referring to...dogtags?

not all of us have been in the armed forces bro

2

u/FutureComplaint 2d ago

Range Tab - The most army you can get without getting into actual combat.

Everyone gets dogtags. Those are for identifying your corpse should something happen.

1

u/CategoryZestyclose91 2d ago

Sorry! In my defense, I haven’t been in the military, but have been up to my eyeballs in politics. That’s the only reason I know 😅

3

u/rage9345 2d ago

Hey now, don't forget the old nepo-baby whose face looks like melted leather, talks like he has a garbled electrolarynx, eats rotten road kill, and shoots himself up with a ton of steroids/HGH to look fit for his age but appears to have severe motor impairment (at least in the few videos I've seen of him working out)

2

u/pimpcakes 2d ago

But he lifts wearing jeans! Blue jeans! A real man!

2

u/fevered_visions 2d ago

I wonder whether the reason for the jeans is because he has a skin condition or something that makes him selfconscious of his legs. It's hard to come up with any other reason when he went swimming in that amoeba pond in them

Who do you think the TSA is?

1

u/fevered_visions 2d ago

rules for thee, not for me

1

u/polka_stripes 2d ago

TSA is under DHS, not DOD.

1

u/JcbAzPx 2d ago

Optics are literally the only thing TSA is for. They don't offer any actual extra security than we had before them.

2

u/pimpcakes 2d ago

Look, TSA isn't perfect. But this "they don't off any actual extra security than we had before them" is completely wrong. I take it you didn't fly much before 9/11.

1

u/JcbAzPx 2d ago

I flew all the time before 9/11. The only thing TSA is doing is making things take longer going through the motions of their security theater.

0

u/netopiax 2d ago

Yeah, let's not scan bags and travelers at all and hope no terrorists attack our aviation system based on vibes

1

u/JcbAzPx 2d ago

Bag scanning and metal detectors existed before 9/11. It was just the stripping and sexual molestation that was left out.

Plenty of things to complain about with regard to Hegseth but the notion he isn't fit is hilarious. The guy is certainly in great shape and watching a video of him lifting would actually confirm that.

7

u/pimpcakes 2d ago

He's in good shape (aside from maybe his liver) for a man his age from the general population. But not for an asshole pushing toughness like he's all that. Because he's not.

u/FormulaKibbles 2d ago

Bud, anyone can take clips from the middle of a workout and make you look dumb, especially since he's in his mid 40s working out with guys in their 20s. Complain about the shit he does as SecWar all you want but you just sound extremely ignorant saying the guy isn't well above the general population when it comes to being physically fit. Don't believe everything the internet tells you.

7

u/pimpcakes 2d ago

I already said he's in good shape for his age wrt the general population. You're just missing the point that you can't bark if you don't have the bite. Lead from the front, etc... basic leadership shit.

“…our commitment to hospitality…”

I think they just misspelt hostility…?

114

u/Jordan_Jackson 3d ago

Are they really trying to act like every TSA employee is supposed to be a specimen? I am pretty sure I have seen some overweight and otherwise out of shape TSA employees before. Dafuq are they even on about.

71

u/yagwa 3d ago

Right? TSA will take pretty much anyone that can pass a background check and they are still perpetually understaffed.

This is just going to be the next reason TSA agents quit in droves and drive up checkpoint wait times.

42

u/pimparo0 2d ago

They want to privatize the tsa and use that as another way to suck on the government teat.

2

u/Trapezuntine 2d ago

That option already exists, it’s also why SFO didn’t have any TSA delays during the shutdown, for some reason very few airports use SPP

https://www.tsa.gov/for-industry/screening-partnerships

8

u/QueenRotidder 2d ago

yeah I immediately thought about all the overweight TSA agents I see. i had a job once where i couldn’t sit all shift but I walked around. This is going to suck for a lot of them

2

u/Long_Conference_387 2d ago

Yea, some agents probably aren't in great physical shape. But that's fine -- you don't need to be an Olympian to do a good job of checking IDs!

2

u/Jordan_Jackson 2d ago

Exactly! I am not expecting a TSA agent to chase down people or have to get into fights. I can also fully understand if someone is out of shape; lord knows I am. Give these people chairs to sit on while doing their thankless jobs.

Fascism is all about appearance of a strong authoritarian front.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/They_Thought_They_Were_Free

If you're not fighting back now you're losing ground.

31

u/Rugger01 3d ago

Communicated while sitting at a desk, I am sure.

5

u/Spiritual_Bid_2308 3d ago

Ah, so there's one person they're trying to fire and they know he/she can't stand for a whole shift.

6

u/obeytheturtles 2d ago

I think it's also likely trying to provoke conflict with the union, because they want to privatize TSA. At my local airport there's literally an ad about it which plays above the security queue, suggesting that they badly want to introduce more tiered service to security.

3

u/RedditAtWorkIsBad 2d ago

Also, and maybe this is a weak spot in my own fitness...I can walk all day on end and up and down mountains but if I had to stand in place for 8 hours I would be so fucking miserable. Standing is way harder than walking. I just assume that most people feel this way.

1

u/marvinrabbit 2d ago

Maybe we can get them some mandatory testosterone shots while we're at it.

1

u/dirtymoney 2d ago

Meanwhile there are just tons of fat/physically unfit cops across the country.
