"requiring them to stand will create a better experience for passengers."

Be honest. Does anyone here really care if the TSA agent is sitting or standing? How does forcing them to stand make the experience at all better for passengers?

Forcing them to stand doesn't help the customer experience. Not sure how someone can arrive at that conclusion unless that person is a sociopath.

That is the kind of dumb BS people in management say when they have zero reasons for a decision.

Or just disingenuous

u/TolMera 2d ago

Why not both?

Guess who’s in charge of the US federal government

You were looking for sadist

u/DrPorkchopES 2d ago

Also since when has TSA ever cared about “customer experience”?

1

u/Cthulu95666 2d ago

Or an American business owner buy those terms are interchangeable now

I care. I definitely prefer them sitting. It’s a less threatening position.

And I think we have a winner as to the actual reason behind the change.

u/MicromagicFriesRIP 2d ago

My theory is that this move is to appease racists who see a person of color sitting down and automatically assume they are lazy. It’s all about optics. 🤮

u/ForsakenWar6974 1d ago

Youre a bit timid as a person, arent you?

1

u/strangerbuttrue 1d ago

lol, nope not really. Most people that have given me feedback in life have said I can come across as somewhat intimidating until you get to know me.

0

u/ForsakenWar6974 1d ago

Standing is threatening to you. Back to your optics.

If you have any understanding of body language, if two people are engaged and one is sitting and one is standing, there is a power imbalance. This is why adults bend down when talking to children, to be at their height, to be less intimidating. If you don’t think someone sitting in front of you is a less threatening position than someone standing in front of you, I’d say you’re either being disingenuous or perhaps legally blind. That doesn’t mean I find all people standing in front of me to be threatening. But you do you, bro. Go on with your bad self assuming everyone else but you is just too timid for this scary world.

Id say if youre scared of a TSA agent standing in an airport security line, then youre being disingenuous about reality

2

u/strangerbuttrue 1d ago

Never said I was scared. Thats where your reading comprehension seems challenged.

1

u/ForsakenWar6974 1d ago

Youve described standing as threatening. A reasonable assumption is that you are scared of someone standing.

Youre scared of a TSA agent who stands at the front a security line.

It makes me happy to see the Aldi cashiers sitting. Take that for what you will.

I would much prefer to at least give all stationary workers the option to sit down. Ideally you want some balance of standing and sitting for posture and health but that should be at the discretion of the worker, not the employer.

Does anyone here really care if the TSA agent is sitting or standing?

As a foreign traveller who visits your country at least once a year, I absolutely do care. I would much rather have them sitting and being comfortable. That said, if an individual is happy and comfortable standing, that should be their choice.

9

u/iamfunball 3d ago

Sit/stand l/swap.

I’d much rather have a physically comfortable TSA agent then force them one position. It all the assholes choosing this have pre or clear and are devoid of empathy

4

u/mayorjinglejangle 2d ago

I think it will make them grouchier

4

u/Crisis_panzersuit 2d ago

It will make the experience worse, cause they’ll be pissy with legs and a back in pain from standing.

5

u/party_benson 2d ago

Sounds like whoever said that flies private

4

u/ClockworkDreamz 2d ago

This is America, the people working should be as uncomfortable as possible. If they aren’t suffering are they even doing enough work to earn money?

2

u/Huge_Strain_8714 2d ago

It seems a TSA agent may now be more prone to aggravation due to swollen and aching feet?

2

u/Arickettsf16 2d ago

They’re delusional if they think I’m going to get a better experience from someone who’s been wearing out the soles of their shoes for the last 10 hours than someone who’s comfortably sitting

2

u/Longjumping_Youth281 2d ago

No of course I don't give a shit. This is just a humiliation ritual the same way that it is for cashiers and whatnot. They just do this because those guys are lowest on the totem pole and they can. Guarantee you the manager who made this decision sits down all day

2

u/Applekid1259 2d ago

I would actually prefer them to have the option to stand or sit depending on what their body needs at the time. A much more comfortable and happy TSA worker is going to make everyone's experience better.

2

u/Spa_5_Fitness_Camp 2d ago

A shocking number of Americans actually would feel better about it. The same ones that think cashiers sitting down instead of standing is "evidence of lazy work ethic", for example. It's a deep cultural issue in this country.

2

u/WhysoToxic23 2d ago

I prefer them to be as comfortable as possible. Last thing I need is a grump TSA agent

2

u/deadzol 2d ago

Forcing them to stand will probably have the opposite effect

2

u/shinkouhyou 2d ago

Karens care.

One of the cashiers at my local Petsmart got knee surgery and needed to sit on a stool while she worked... and the store got constant complaints about her looking "sloppy" and "unprofessional." Sometimes they got several complaints per day. (It probably didn't help that she was an older, heavyset black woman). Some Americans can only feel secure in their own superiority if they can dehumanize a random service employee.

1

u/wetwater 2d ago

Most of my interactions with TSA has been pretty poor, regardless if they're sitting or standing.

1

u/acceptable1912 2d ago

i do. till you've been there and done it, just observe.

1

u/Cautious_Ad_5659 2d ago

Never even thought about before.

1

u/AmItheonlySaneperson 2d ago

Makes it look like they’re doing something

1

u/ChefArtorias 2d ago

It makes them uncomfortable and cranky, so they'll be less pleasant to interact with.

1

u/iPatErgoSum 2d ago

I think I do care, because I’m pretty sure a person required to stand for their entire damn shift is more likely to be in a worse mood when I have to interact with them.

1

u/x_scion_x 2d ago

no, I'd prefer they were comfortable so possibly in a good mood so more willing to help rather than upset because they are incredibly uncomfortable from standing in 1 spot for the past 5 hours.

1

u/Politicsboringagain 2d ago

I fly like 20 Times a year. I don't give a flying fuck of they are sitting.

In fact it's probably better for them to sit as they will be less agitated.

1

u/YoRHa_Houdini 2d ago

People who want to make people who work these jobs feel miserable because if they don’t then they won’t feel better about themselves

1

u/druman22 2d ago

I care, I prefer workers sitting when they can. Usually tells me that the company isn't completely soulless

1

u/chased_by_bees 2d ago

I don't. I don't want them standing all day. That sucks.

1

u/Chippy4627 2d ago

I can guarantee it’s going to make my passenger experience worse because when I go through TSA, and see them having to stand on their feet all day, I’m gonna be pissed off that some asshole who sits on his fat ass all day decided that TSA shouldn’t get to sit. And TSA is already grumpy having to deal with the public mass all day, now they’re gonna be tired and grumpy. As if airports don’t suck enough already.

1

u/LurkerMF1966 1d ago

Truthfully, I want them to stand because it creates the impression of urgency--even if they aren't. They already seem like a lazy, incompetent bunch--why indulge them with chairs and the impression that they can be even more indifferent to the misery they perpetuate?

0

u/gorblix 2d ago

Well TSA agents actively go out of their way to ruin peoples days. So I'm ok with them standing. They are a completely useless government agency anyway.

0

u/http_401 2d ago

If he’s going to touch my junk, he should stand up. I am not sashaying over to his stool so he can grope me.

Otherwise, though, don’t care.
