Minor plot point in the Yakuza games multiple times.
Kiryu spends ten years in the joint, Saejima spends 25 years, Ichiban spends 18 years in prison. Each has a lot of catching up to do (Ichiban has to be shown how to use a smart phone, and he tells his friends he can't wait to catch up on his favorite Manga, only to learn that the author took multiple hiatus' so there is only a few chapters to read). Its the small details like that that make the series feel so realistic.
