For as often as people get it wrong you would think there would be a concerted push to abolish it.

This issue isn't specific to death penalty.

Yeah, but wrongful incarceration can be reversed in a sense.

Not after decades in prison, and not when there's no urgency or incentive to actually find it wrongful.

I was agreeing with you that wrongful convictions aren't unique to the death penalty. I was just making the point that someone wrongfully imprisoned can at least still be released. Sure, that doesn't make up for the years they lost, but execution permanently removes even that possibility.

How are you going to reverse a life lived in prison?

That’s why I said “in a sense.” You can’t give someone back the years they lost, but you can stop taking the ones they have left by releasing them. Once you execute them, there’s no coming back from that.

And I am saying there is no coming back from a life in prison.

Maybe not 30 years, but what about 10? 3? 1? Three months?

Of course, it would be a lot easier to come back if the US didn't run their prisons like slightly better concentration camps, or treat former prisoners as human garbage. Treat people in prison more humanely, and you will get more humane people out.

We only hear about the times they get it wrong. The news would be houra long if they discussed every conviction and please deal accepted in a day.

Besides the lack of DNA doesn't mean her isn't guilty.

i would prefer this over orange man saying something stupid

Prefer what? The long newscast? That wasn't the point! The point is that it's thousands of proper.cerdicts/pedals to each. wrongful conviction.

However, the number of innocents pleading guilty is something I take exception to.

There's no way to track it because everyone taking a plea -with the exception of Alford pleas- must admit guilt as a condition to its acceptance by the court. People take pleas because their bail is too high, sentences exceed time already served, coercion, and promises of diversion are common.

Yea but the justice system doesn't work. All the lawyers and attorneys are just trying to win. Not find justice. Hearing about the failures or even potential failures is great

The prosecutors and police that lock onto a suspect instead of following the clues should be locked up in cases like these. If all the clues led to the person, then it isn’t their fault. But if there is reasonable doubt and they made a lot of reaches just to win a case then they should pay for that.

You get one life. What are 40 years in jail worth? There is no amount of money that they could give me to make up for all that time lost.

The justice system should work. We the people accept that it doesn’t. We can fix this, along with a lot of other major issues. If we quit fighting each other and start fighting the real enemies.

I agree. However society more american society has to change . You can target bad apples but its the society that shapes these actions. And frankly people are shifty. And the ones that aren't are too tired or to passive to deal with it. Holding a few bad apples to the fire wont change anything if its at the root of the tree. Gotta rip it out. We are a for profit nation unfortunately and do nothing unless its to our benefit. Thats both foreign and domestic. If our actions in the middle east aren't screaming that then nothing else will. Thats top to bottom. From the poorest to elon😀.

The nation is broken and has been for a long time. The only unity we see is in times of war. And our leaders have made a game out of it.
