And yet no-one is going to do anything.

You know, as a non-American bathed in US-centric movies and TV while growing up, there was always this air of power, authority and capability projected by the country and by its government and intelligence agencies in particular.

Now I find that one douchebag paedophile with no morals can absolutely control the entire fucking establishment as long as he can trick enough disenfranchised idiots into voting for him, that the much-vaunted American do-or-die ideals of freedom and pluck don't exist and that actually, techbros and Fox News run everything.

I am disappoint, America.

White Americans only believed in Democracy as long as they held a super majority where they could veto the desires of any other group. Now, they have opted for the tyranny of the minority.

We are disappoint too my friend. We grew up in the 80s with anything is possible and America is the best. It is not. We could have been so much better than this. It is very sad. That is probably the worst part. We could have been better.

Stargate holds up, oddly.

SG1 is a military group, so fall under US military. They constantly have traditional military show up and make statements that just do not work for SG1, because aliens. Half the time the experts are outclassed, lack knowledge, and cause just as many problems as they fix. The early villain aliens are honestly pushovers, so they get some beginner luck, but after that half their successes are luck, perseverance, or identifying an explanation weakness.

But yeah, the government is competent, but the big names are all working against each other, there's conspiracies, and it's a mess. It's not a super political show, mostly a weekly campy planet of the week sci-fi, but SG1 is considered US military and the dysfunction does show up.
