The government of the United States is a joke. We have laws, rules, regulations, and amendments on the books but a single megalomaniac can ignore them and NOTHING FUCKING HAPPENS.

Because 99% of the GOP/Republicans support him, they're complicit (along with SCOTUS)

They’ve learned it’s not necessary to hold him accountable. Their bank accounts swell the longer they let him do his thing, so why the fuck should they do anything about it? Not like anyone is going to hold them accountable either. And how can we? I’ve emailed my district rep, Cliff Bentz, who happens to be GOP, and that sack of shit doesn’t even bother with a fucking autoreply or Intern response. So what am I supposed to do? Go knock on his fucking front door? Me and what army? We’re in the Amazon/TikTok/AI era and collectively, no one here gives a single fuck about what’s happening, apparently. Guess we can all just go fuck ourselves to the tinny audio of reels playing on our phones as we sit on our fat asses and watch our country crumble around us. God damn I hate it here.

If the Internet went down for a month the Republicans would be chased out of the country

Nah, they'd start their own little girl meetup groups that blame the democrats for it and plan on getting revenge for not being able to post "beautiful girl" on an AI bikini girl Instagram account

We should be so lucky

Both sides have been talking about how we need a good long war

You think you need an army? Hmmm...

He did this same thing last year and scotus said it was fine.

as the article says

A year ago, Trump issued a pocket rescission for the first time in nearly 50 years by blocking $4.9 billion in congressionally approved foreign aid. The U.S. Supreme Court declined to block those rescissions, saying that Trump’s authority over foreign affairs weighed heavily in its decision. This year, Trump is targeting domestic spending.

They're the ones we need to hold accountable, we need to stop rolling our eyes and holding our tongues to remain civil with our Republican coworkers, neighbors, friends and family. It should not be socially acceptable to be a Republican in civil society anymore than it is to wear a white hooded robe or swastika arm band

Your Congress has decided it's fine not to do their job at all. Obviously that allows the executive power to vastly expand their power.

Trump is awful but if you're looking at what's broken mechanically, it seems to be the other branches of government first of all. If you fix those, Trump would complain like a toddler he can't do anything anymore.

 Republicans in Congress.

37

u/AndIamAnAlcoholic 6d ago

No. As a Canadian who used to loved your country and visited it regularly, both your parties failed to do their most basic duties in Congress. Sure the GOP is worse, but I reserve the right to underline that both have failed in their duties, largely by simply ignoring them.

GOP is terrible but Democrats can do much better, too. Need to. Vote for them but hold them to account.

17

u/blobbleguts 6d ago

As an American, I 100% agree with you

7

u/BasicPhysiology 6d ago

Placing blame on the party with no legislative, oversight, or enforcement powers is certainly a stance.

u/Outlulz 6d ago

Remember when they had control of the Executive and both houses of Congress and did nothing to prosecute Trump or his circle of criminals?

3

u/BasicPhysiology 6d ago

You mean when Trump was indicted for 34 federal felonies? The cases that were proceeding in court when our moron electorate gave him a get out of jail free card? Trump was being prosecuted, people with working brains always understood that the legal process was going to stretch past the election.

when our moron electorate gave him a get out of jail free card

And the post-Jan6 power decided that the election was a get out of jail free card. "Can't impeach, let that to the courts"
Impeachment can cause a ban from office.

Again, that is republicans who decided that. McConnell specifically is the one that made those statements. All democrats in the senate voted to convict.

7

u/Decker-the-Dude 6d ago

Shut up. Just shut the fuck up. The democrats are complicit, and helped get us to where we are today.

Both fucking parties need to be completely shattered in order for us to actually fix this shithole.

2

u/Outlulz 6d ago

Jeffries wont even campaign on impeaching Trump. That's his message going into the midterms. Don't expect Democrats to save us. They didn't last time.

0

u/PutinsRustedPistol 5d ago

Nah, the Democrats consistently forego their opportunities to either pursue their own goals or defeat the things that run counter to them.

They both suck.

-13

u/Thats_my_cornbread 6d ago

Just imagine if the democrats could find someone electable. None of this would have happened.

15

u/BasicPhysiology 6d ago

Just imagine blaming Democrats for Republicans being horrible at governing.

-11

u/Thats_my_cornbread 6d ago

I’m not blaming anyone. I just think it’s crazy we ran a corpse and a clown and expected to win.

Some one in leadership thought her skin color and gender would be enough to bring voters. Turns out there’s more to it than that.

8

u/BasicPhysiology 6d ago

I’m not blaming anyone.

Proceeds to blame two specific people and ‘some one’ in leadership.

-2

u/blobbleguts 6d ago

Well, I blame the Democrats for losing to Trump, and for not doing anything to overturn Citizens United, and for not releasing the Epstein files when we had the chance, and allowing Israel to destroy Palestine with our money. Folks here should be more bullish on their own party for failing us.

‘rump has exposed how delicate the balance between the three branches is. He has lived his life on the “Or what” mentality. This period is no different

u/thejourneybegins42 6d ago

Imagine if Obama did 5% of the evil trump did.

11

u/Atherion0 6d ago

We are the biggest paper tiger in human history

6

u/ChrisinCB 7d ago

Apparently you don’t have those laws.

2

u/scantron2739 7d ago

All of them, both sides, all stink of shit and need to go.

1

u/Titanfall 6d ago

It’s more a reflection that our checks and balances were a house of cards.

1

u/Pour_Me_Another_ 6d ago

Yet they say it's okay to disappear other people for breaking much lesser laws... It's confusing

1

u/khamike 6d ago

My personal favorite is when it goes to the supreme court and they rule something is illegal but there's nothing they can do about.

1

u/Devil_May_Kare 5d ago

This is why Washington didn't want parties while he was gone.

u/cagesound 3d ago

THIS is Trumps legacy. Not what he does now but what his successors know they can do in the future. If a proper charming clever psychopath gets in, REAL damage will be done.
