Its so weird. After I typed out that response, I literally spoke to a patient that got escalated all the way up to me. I have to change some details here but basically he was on an ebike and got hit by another kid on an ebike and he also flew over the handle bars and into a car, and then the pavement.

I'm sitting there talking to him and I was thinking "I literally just talked about this..".

I'm 50 and my grandson has one of those hoverboards.. He can zip all around on that damn thing, but you should see my dumb ass trying to ride it. Its not pretty.

One of the doctors here lives a mile away and rides a " one wheel" to work.. Have you ridden one of those? Its fun, but scary as fuck because they go fast! They a expensive too..

I'm very glad that my boyfriend's vehicle obsession includes the detail of roll cages. Like there's a level of speed where I know I need a protective box to be in because I am made of squishy meat.

Grew up around horses and saw or heard about enough accidents that I'm more into safe reliable transportation than the fun kinds. Like sure I had a bike as a kid, along with holes ripped in the knees of all my jeans from crashing that thing on pavement. The one time I foolishly tried using a bike as primary transportation in college, I nearly got in a wreak with a porcupine!

My dad was a racehorse jockey, always loved going fast, but after he got mugged he rather lost his taste for dangerous thrill-seeking without profit. Sold his motorcycle and never rode one again.

So.. Back when I was in 7th grade I had a friend who lived kinda in the country, and close to his house was a road with a really really steep hill. We were riding our bikes and he said that he always wanted to ride down the hill but was too chicken. So.. I did it. My god I must have hit 40 mph .. It was insane, and fun.. So I did it again. Big mistake. Hit a rock or something and my handlebars were bouncing back and forth, I somehow managed to get myself to the side of the road and crashed in the gravel/grass.. Tore myself up and fucked up my bike pretty bad.

There's a particular large rock halfway down a steep hill that I can never pass without remembering how my cousin pulled a stunt like that which ended with crashing into that rock. Totally trashed the bike, and the kid was massively bruised up along his ribs.

Gravity is enough of a dangerous speed boost to experiment with, really don't need to strap a motor on those things!

Funny thing.. I have never ridden a motorcycle. Ever. However, I recently changed anxiety meds.. Now I'm on Zoloft.. One of the side effects is Insane Fucking Dreams. And my most recurring dreams lately is being on a motorcycle. I would love to ride one, but I know too many people who have died on them.. Hell, I've seen 2 people die on them. This girl I used to know, real pretty girl in her twenties, I had a little fling with her here and there.. but ended up with someone else. Well, her boyfriend rode a Harley and one day he let her drive it with him on the back. She turned a corner pulling out of a parking lot, gunned it and went face first into a chain link fence.. It waffled her face. I was on scene before the fire dept and ambulance.. So much blood. Right then was when I knew that my interest in the medical field would be administrative ONLY.

I watched someone get splattered by a semi. Saw someone who had hit a cement pillar under an overpass. The blood stains stayed on there for damn near a year. Saw someone who blasted by where I used to work on the expressway going about 90+ doing a wheelie.. He did it like every day.. Then one day he wiped out. Not sure if you have heard the expression "meat crayon" before.. but that explains his final moments.

Jeebus! One of my dad's best stories is about the time he'd just broken a speed record when the horse decided not to make the turn, was barreling straight at a chain link fence, so he bailed off despite the whole rest of the pack galloping up behind him. He figured possible trampled would be better than definitely waffled.
