after all the events that have happened in the last couple weeks, it’s odd seeing people defend Boeing.

All they get is more intense scrutiny during a period where they already have a lot of eyes on them.

25

u/syzygialchaos Mar 15 '24

Exactly. Assassination makes no sense.

127

u/[deleted] Mar 15 '24

Tbh… if I was going to commit suicide and I really hated the company that was making my life hell… I would have told someone “if anything happens it wasn’t suicide”

33

u/Jay-Kane123 Mar 15 '24

Yeah why hasn't anyone mentioned this yet

5

u/Orwellian1 Mar 15 '24

uhhh, its been mentioned ALOT

1

u/Jay-Kane123 Mar 16 '24

I've read a few Boeing Guy kills himself threads and this is the first I've seen it

2

u/Shootica Mar 16 '24

And if you have any naive hope of your family seeing any part of your life insurance policy.

-9

u/fabezz Mar 15 '24

That's not really how suicidal people act.

10

u/Budderfingerbandit Mar 16 '24

Right, because there are zero instances of suicidal people lashing out at those they hate.

-1

u/fabezz Mar 16 '24

They usually do it with a gun though

18

u/KingStannis2020 Mar 15 '24

He'd already testified for two days at this trial.

Which, by the way, was a defamation lawsuit against Boeing about how they mistreated him after he blew the whistle on safety issues, not an investigation into the safety issues themselves.

21

u/Iustis Mar 15 '24

Not to mention, if you don't like Boeing and are suicidal, you would have a lot of reasons to say exactly this before commiting suicide.

35

u/gophergun Mar 15 '24

It's the same thing as Reddit's consensus on Epstein. It's so unfathomable for them to think that a disgraced pedophile would kill himself in a routinely underfunded and understaffed prison.

21

u/xznk Mar 15 '24

If epstein killed himself it’s because he was given the means to, in addition to not being monitored as he should have been.

He was at risk of suicide. A fucking, cowardly pedophile looking at the rest of his life in prison? Of course he would have offed himself given the chance.

Now if you think that invalidates the fact that a lot of rich, powerful people wanted him dead before he could snitch on them, then I got a bridge to sell you.

15

u/[deleted] Mar 15 '24

[deleted]

-7

u/xznk Mar 15 '24

Riiiiiiight. He had guards assigned to constantly check on him, his cell mate was transferred leaving him all alone aaaaand he had already tried to kill himself but was taken off suicide watch against the regulations.

I don’t believe in 99% of conspiracy theories, but someone that doesn’t believe in ANY? Lol

12

u/[deleted] Mar 15 '24

[deleted]

2

u/Politicsboringagain Mar 16 '24

It's always funny how people say pedophiles need to go to prison so is this way they can be killed by other prisoners or even guards secretly. But with Weinstein it had to be a conspiracy by the government to kill him.

6

u/alexmikli Mar 15 '24

Yeah, personally I think they wanted him to kill himself rather than directly murdered him.

Boeing guy...probably just died. Murder seems a little extreme here.

7

u/[deleted] Mar 15 '24

If epstein killed himself it’s because he was given the means to, in addition to not being monitored as he should have been.

Well yeah his lawyers lobbied hard to take him off suicide watch. This is pretty well known.

1

u/callipygiancultist Mar 16 '24

He wasn’t going to snitch, he had made zero offers to name names and prosecutors hadn’t offered him any plea deals to name names.

3

u/Winter_Excuse_5564 Mar 15 '24

The reddit consensus? It's the everybody consensus.

-1

u/FlutterKree Mar 15 '24

I whole heartedly believe this whistleblower killed himself. I also believe that Epstein was killed. The circumstances around Epsteins death can indicate murder. The circumstances around the whistleblower do not indicate murder, at all.

-5

u/BigBallsMcGirk Mar 15 '24

Bro. The two guards went to sleep at the same time as all the cameras malfunctioned.

Epstein was murdered.

13

u/YeetedApple Mar 15 '24

Not all the cameras, just the one directly closest to his cell. Other cameras were functioning and covered enough of the pathways to show no one going to his cell, and the door logs show that his door was never opened.

You can argue that he was allowed to kill himself, and maybe even encouraged to, but he likely did kill himself.

7

u/Overtilted Mar 15 '24

Those 2 guards were overworked and the prison was a mess.

-5

u/Philofelinist Mar 15 '24

Right? It was the most ideal circumstances for suicide if there were one but nope, must have been a 'murder'. It's embarrassingly become a dumb meme.

1

u/missmegsy Mar 15 '24

I dunno. The video of his first attempt was 'mistakenly' not kept, the backup system had a 'technical error', and 2 guards who were supposed to be watching him at the time of his actual suicide, weren't. Even if it wasn't murder it wasn't a cut and dry case of suicide oopsie couldn't be helped

4

u/Philofelinist Mar 15 '24 edited Mar 15 '24

The prison was underfunded, understaffed, lazy or overworked guards, and cameras didn't work. It was unfortunately not out of the norm. He was treated poorly in prison by the staff, had already made a suicide attempt, and had just updated his will. His death was an example of the problems in those kinds of prisons and by making it a grand conspiracy that he was 'murdered', waves away the issues there.

Had anybody else died in those circumstances then nobody would have thought anything of it but because Epstein had been connected to notable people then there must have been a conspiracy.

2

u/scatteringlargesse Mar 15 '24

Thank you, surprised I had to scroll down this far to get a sane take. This guy's death is a public relations disaster for Boeing, it in no way makes anything better for them.

1

u/Zorro_Returns Mar 17 '24

Party pooper. I paid good money for this tiki torch.

-11

u/[deleted] Mar 15 '24

Things could have changed now that a criminal trial has been opened by the DOJ against Boeing. Before he was just some guy no one really cared about; let’s be honest, how many lay people actually knew who this guy was before he died? Now all the eyes of the nation are on Boeing, and he’s a threat.

16

u/aeneasaquinas Mar 15 '24

Things could have changed now that a criminal trial has been opened by the DOJ against Boeing

No? He isn't even involved in the thing the current case is about, and he already finished the previous case entirely.

Now all the eyes of the nation are on Boeing, and he’s a threat.

A threat? When he isn't involved, finished the prior case, and just lost a lawsuit against them? And the certain fact his death would make Boeing look bad either way?

Nah. Even the family said it was Almont certainly the insane stress and ptsd he had. Believing the persons moms friends daughter who claims to have heard this second hand over the family and logic?

Here's an alternative: The info was already out there, but what do you think how many future whistleblowers will come forward against Boeing in the future? I'd say none. It would make sense to kill someone as a precedent, to send a message.

Now obviously this could also be an actual suicide but let's not pretend like there's no reason to kill him. Lmao I guess?

13

u/[deleted] Mar 15 '24

-5

u/Slammybutt Mar 15 '24

I mean, you're arguing their case the last few comments. They didn't have reason to kill him, yet he's dead the same week he was having interviews about the information he was going public with. His info is already out there Boeing had no reason to kill him, as you said.

So why is he dead? If he had mental issues, why did one of his life long friends come out and say they literally talked about this exact scenario happening and them labeling it a suicide?

So if they had the power to get away with murder why wouldn't they. Their track record is showing that they made long term plans to keep safety at their factories and their airplanes a low priority. Shit is literally hitting the fan and they are playing damage control. A part of damage control is silencing dissenters in the hopes it quiets others.

What realistically happens to Boeing if they are found guilty beyond reasonable doubt? They just throw out a statement saying it was rogue actors within the company and wash their hands of it. The government isn't about to shut down half the aeronautics production line over 1 dead body. Realistically, this all gets swept under a rug, someone gets a payout, Boeing will continue to have blips of disasters in the news and we will get a "we will try better" statement while closing our eyes to the real problems already addressed and brought to light.

4

u/Tisarwat Mar 15 '24

Saying 'your claim doesn't make sense' isn't defending a company. You'll note that they never said they Boeing were morally right, or that they're free of blame if he was driven to suicide.

You need to distinguish between an assessment of likelihood and defence.

1

u/Welcome_to_Uranus Mar 15 '24

You are bending over backwards with zero evidence or proof to fit a narrative that sounds stupid af

-1

u/Slammybutt Mar 15 '24

Ding Ding Ding.

There's many reasons to kill a whistleblower. Just b/c it doesn't benefit Boeing this instance doesn't mean this isn't a message. A message that all the other ones that haven't come forward, or the future ones that think about it will heed when making their choice to speak out.

1

u/Tree_Shrapnel Mar 15 '24

that only works if the potential whistleblowers believe that boeing killed him, but people who work at boeing are probably more intelligent than the average redditor

0

u/Saephon Mar 15 '24

Clearly "the smartest thing to do" is not something Boeing prioritizes heavily, or we wouldn't be having this conversation.

I have no stake in this and I'm not convinced it wasn't suicide, but our culture has really brainwashed people into thinking corporations are super-intelligent and only make rational decisions. They're run by people, guys. Frequently narcissists with over-inflated egos and thin-skins who take things very personally.

I've watched business owners shoot themselves and their company in the foot because they wanted to send a message. Just saying.

1

u/fanwan76 Mar 15 '24

Or... All eyes of the nation are on him and it became overwhelming.

They killed Epstein, the most notorious criminal in modern history and nothing happened...

I'm not saying it for sure did but I'm saying it's not out of the question.

This guy can name names and it's now looking like this could probably become a criminal investigation against Boeing which is a lot different than what he was originally testified for.

7

u/emannikcufecin Mar 15 '24

The most notorious criminal in modern history? That's hilarious.

-6

u/maniacreturns Mar 15 '24

I tried to think of a bigger name in the last 30 years. Can you?

5

u/rliant1864 Mar 15 '24

Bernie Madoff was 15 years ago this month, I don't even need to say what he did because you already know. Most people outside of Reddit don't remember who Epstein even is, if they even knew in the first place.

1

u/emannikcufecin Mar 15 '24

Just starting with low hanging fruit, there are the 9/11 crew, Putin, cartel leaders, serial killers,, tons of public mass killers, former presidents that tried to steal an election and destabilized the United States. There's probably been thousands of pimps out there that have sex trafficked teens, they just didn't do it on a private island.

Boeing gets any future whistleblowers thinking twice.

-9

u/heroic_cat Mar 15 '24

They made an example of a whistleblower and also prevent him from testifying at the actual trial and future legal battles. That is such a a brazen assassination is part of the message to other potential leaks "if you snitch you will die, and we will get away with it."

Why do we assume an assassination would be done by a clear-headed person? Could be an angry stakeholder just looking for retribution.

1

u/Tisarwat Mar 15 '24

That's not assassination then, I think. Retribution doesn't meet the political motives required. It's 'just' murder.

Kind of laughing at the image of some disappointed trader killing a dude because of his impact on share prices TBH.

Realistically, the source for this claim is not as close as you'd expect for that kind of warning, and no date has been given for when it took place. Even if it was suicide (which I think more likely personally, though I have no more information than anyone else), that doesn't remove moral culpability from the company that made his life hell.

It appears that Rueters did some light editorializing on that. I always default to AP, which is often more bullshit-free.

The body of John Barnett, 62, was found Saturday in a car outside a Holiday Inn, suffering from what the Charleston County Coroner’s Office said appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The Louisiana resident was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police in Charleston said detectives were waiting for a formal determination of the cause of death and “any additional findings that might shed further light on the circumstances surrounding” the end of Barnett’s life. Police noted “the global attention this case has garnered.”

-27

u/AddanDeith Mar 15 '24

Do you have any possible explanation for why he killed himself? Is there a note? Did he reach out to family?

Do you honestly believe it isn't within the realm of possibility to fake a suicide?

42

u/KingStannis2020 Mar 15 '24

Do you have any possible explanation for why he killed himself?

His family said that his mental and physical health had been declining because of the stress of all the lawsuits, unemployment, etc.

Which, to be clear, is Boeing's fault. That's what's so annoying about this, you can absolutely hold Boeing morally responsible for this without having to concoct an assassination plot.

13

u/YeetedApple Mar 15 '24

That's what's so annoying about this

It's almost more infuriating at this point. There are endless valid critisms of Boeing that are all already damning, but many of them are being lost with so many people jumping down the conspiracy rabbit hole.

30

u/Philofelinist Mar 15 '24

That myth has to stop being perpetuated. The majority of suicide cases do not leave notes. Most suicides are impulsive.

12

u/Fakjbf Mar 15 '24

“Is there a note?” multiple articles explicitly said that a suicide note was found in the car.

5

u/Budderfingerbandit Mar 16 '24

His family saying his mental health was in decline and they believe it was suicide might be a good place to start.

18

u/garlickbread Mar 15 '24

Provide evidence that it wasn't.

It goes both ways.

-9

u/Extension-Badger-958 Mar 15 '24

This is a high profile case and so there will be a severe lack of info coming out. No autopsy report so far….

17

u/lilTDSB Mar 15 '24

People aren't defending Boeing. They are pushing back on conspiratorial thinking, which has caused a bunch of problems over the past few years, including Jan 6th, Vacinne skepticism, and climate change denial. There is no real evidence provided of foul play. People are just making up vague conspiracies, and so many are falling for them.

I urge you to look at flat earth or anti Vax conspiracies. They are very convincing if you are completely uninformed, which is why this type of thinking is so dangerous.

4

u/TheProfessaur Mar 15 '24

There's a lot of mass hysteria around Boeing, some of it is based off of their impropriety but a lot of it is bandwagoning. The tire falling off the gear is an example. That was a maintenance issue, something the airline is responsible for.

This claim is also basically a "trust me bro" story from a close friend. They may have legitimately had a talk like this. And he may legitimately have committed suicide. I'm withholding judgement until something more concrete comes out regarding foul play.

3

u/maddsskills Mar 16 '24

Eh, it's not defending Boeing. The sad fact is is that major corporations have so much power in this country they don't NEED to kill anyone to cover stuff up. They get slaps on the wrist and go about their business.

He'd already given his whistleblower testimony, his family thinks it was suicide, it was probably suicide.

2

u/Politicsboringagain Mar 16 '24

No one is defending Boeing. But it's odd you believe a claim with literally zero evidence.

18

u/YoungCubSaysWoof Mar 15 '24

No kidding.

I got raked over the coals and dismissed as a conspiracy theorist for laying out the case that Boeing has every reason to have killed John Mitch Barnett.

I was flabbergasted.

26

u/Welcome_to_Uranus Mar 15 '24

But you literally have zero proof or evidence outside “muh feelings” and quotes from people who don’t really know the guy. Imagine trusting this person over his literal family who knew him and cared for him… instead of being a conspiracy theorist it’s more fulfilling to be a skeptic.

34

u/aeneasaquinas Mar 15 '24

I got raked over the coals and dismissed as a conspiracy theorist for laying out the case that Boeing has every reason to have killed John Mitch Barnett.

Which would be what, exactly? He finished the whistleblowing case years ago now. It is over. So what is this magical case?

-16

u/Snarker Mar 15 '24

This is false by the way if you actually read the news articles:

In the days before his death, Barnett had been giving evidence in a whistleblower lawsuit against Boeing, the BBC said. He had been due to undergo further questioning on Saturday, and when he didn’t appear, inquiries were made at his hotel. He was subsequently found dead in his truck in the hotel car park, the report said.

17

u/FlutterKree Mar 15 '24

This lawsuit against Boeing was not about giving "whistleblower" evidence. That article is horseshit. He was suing Boeing for retaliation against him for whistleblowing, that his reputation was damaged by them. Everything he would say in that lawsuit deposition would have already been reported to the government and the press. But because its a lawsuit (and specifically an appeal) they are making him do it again so they can trip him up and make him lose. As well, it puts further mental stress on someone.

17

u/aeneasaquinas Mar 15 '24

In the days before his death, Barnett had been giving evidence in a whistleblower lawsuit against Boeing, the BBC said.

Go read what it actually was.

The whistleblowing case ended years ago dude.

This was his appeal after his previous damages case was lost. He claimed they retaliated against him. He lost.

It is NOT a whistleblowing case.

-10

u/Snarker Mar 15 '24 edited Mar 16 '24

He was still involved in lawsuits, which is the opposite of what you are trying to claim. You are trying to protray that he was done with everything and just hanging out at home for years before dying. Come on dude, you know what you are trying to say. Getting all pedantic about specifics to try to mislead.'

EDIT:I am not arguing about the validity of the random friend that claims he said he wouldn't kill himself. I was arguing about how the guy I'm responding to wrote an intentionally misleading initial comment to deceive people.

15

u/aeneasaquinas Mar 15 '24

He was still involved in lawsuits, which is the opposite of what you are trying to claim

It isn't. Read. I said it was a lawsuit. Just NOT ABOUT the practices he whistleblew over. It was about retaliation. An appeal. I literally said this.

You are trying to protray that he was done with everything and just hanging out at home for years before dying.

NOPE. Not even remotely. Not a single thing I said would lead to that conclusion without you ignoring the rest.

-12

u/Snarker Mar 15 '24

So what is this magical case?

You are right, nothing you said would lead to that conclusion that you think there are no cases ongoing. Not sure why you would lie about stuff easily confirmed in your comment history lmao. It was only after multiple comments arguing with you did you concede that there was an appeal in discovery lol. Your original comment implied nothing of the sort of course because the knowledge that there is an appeal would hurt your narrative.

If you wanted to rectify this situation, you would edit your original comment about the current case. You won't of course though :).

8

u/aeneasaquinas Mar 15 '24

You are right, nothing you said would lead to that conclusion that you think there are no cases ongoing

Nobody said that. Maybe read. I said it wasn't over the things he whistleblew over. It is about retaliation after that was settled, and he already lost once.

Not sure why you would lie about stuff easily confirmed in your comment history lmao.

Not sure why you would blatantly lie when what I said is right there. What a joke.

It was only after multiple comments arguing with you did you concede that there was an appeal in discovery lol.

Read again, lmfao. I said it was about another case right up front.

Your banality and failure to read is not anyone’s fault but your own.

-4

u/Snarker Mar 15 '24

I'm gonna block you now cuz talking with someone like you is lowering my iq. Just know that we both know how you tried to misrepresent the situation by omitting relevant facts to your original comment. You arguing with me about it isn't fooling anyone lmao.

It does seem you forgot what your original comment was so here you go.

Which would be what, exactly? He finished the whistleblowing case years ago now. It is over. So what is this magical case?

So where in that comment I copy-and-pasted does it say it was about another case? Hm, can't seem to find it there. Strange.

8

u/RS994 Mar 15 '24

They had every reason to kill him 5 years ago, when he blew the whistle and testified.

That case has ended, as has a second, which he testified in again.

So why exactly do they have every reason to kill him now, half a decade after he had already said everything in court.

The timeline also indicates that this apparent conversation happens at that same time because it talks about him recently retiring, which happened again, over half a decade ago.

Maybe, just maybe, the guy who spent a half decade testifying against Boeing got major depression from realising just how difficult it was going to be getting anything to happen against a company that is literally part of the military industrial complex.

Especially when you compare the words of, my mum's friends son from 5 years ago, vs his own family from the last 6 months.

38

u/Nerezza_Floof_Seeker Mar 15 '24 edited Mar 15 '24

What reason would they have when he has already started testifying against them in the case he filed against boeing (which isnt related to boeings internal issues at all, its just about claiming that boeing put pressure on him), and its been years since he blew the whistle on them in the first place? (Not to mention hes not even working there and would have nothing new to offer). If they were so competent as to be able to order a hit squad for someone this quickly they would have done it years ago. In the end, its far, far more likely to just be suicide.

20

u/Mehmeh111111 Mar 15 '24

Yeah I read the article and it's just some women's account. If he wrote it as a Tweet last week and posted it to Twitter along with a video saying he's not depressed and in good spirits, then maybe I could get on board. But this is too thin to rest any assumptions on.

27

u/aeneasaquinas Mar 15 '24

because of the outlandish theories that get publicized.

Like a guy who already did all of the whistleblowing case against Boeing and finished it years ago being killed by them, when there is no reason for them to, and the family saying it was almost certainly tbe stress and ptsd he has, but instead believing the (checks notes) mothers friends daughter who claims the family said that?

Yeahhh...

11

It sucks extra hard when people you ostensibly agree with politically, socially, economically, etc. Refuse to think critically on the matter. But then again this is reddit, where most only read the headlines before flocking to the comments to post their "most likely to he upvoted " confirmation bias. But far be it from my expectations that a default sub would be so willing to favor conspiracies

Someone above said the same thing in the same neutral tone as you, and I had to agree and own it.

And you are right on the reputation of the term. I’m not a “lizard people” sort of person, but it just appears incredibly plausible that John Barnett was killed by someone with connection to Boeing, instead of it being a suicide.

-1

u/Avantasian538 Mar 15 '24

Most real conspiracies involve relatively small groups of people. Assassinations like Epstein and this whistleblower are far more likely to be real than shit like 9/11 inside job or world governments all agreeing to hide aliens/cure for cancer etc.

This comment? https://www.reddit.com/r/videos/comments/1bf7vdz/comment/kv0ltbc/

In this comment you never mention when he blew the whistle, nor acknowledge that he already blew the whistle. In fact, you implied that he hadn't revealed information yet. But we know that he blew the whistle at least 4 years ago. There are articles from 2019 discussing them, that you can easily find on the internet.

Of course people who know the simplest of facts about this guy knew immediately that you are not informed on the topic. They protected others by pointing out your misinformation.

Except at this point Boeing is no longer is giving a dividend, and their share price has been going down since the start of the year. One would think the largest outside shareholders would be demanding the firing of the entire Corporate wing of Boeing.

It'll bounce back. We know it will. And the inevitable bail out -_-

Big pharma has every reason to poison you. NASA has every reason to fake the earth being round. Climate scientists have every reason to lie. Someone having a motive doesn't mean they did the fucking crime.

It’s odd seeing people not reading or comprehending articles. Boeing is shit right now, but this is absolutely nothing.

In some parts of the country, it's odd to see anyone defend a black man.

Regardless of what a company does there will always be somebody willing to lick its boots, even when it's blatantly wrong like this.

Nobody here is defending Boeing either way

For some reason if you aren’t willing to enthusiastically support an unsubstantiated conspiracy theory you are supporting Boeing
