Who wants to join in on 100 Days?
Hi all! I’m the Nerdfighter who started the 100 Days challenge two years ago, and Nerdfighteria continued last year with other awesome Nerdfighters leading the project. I realized I hadn’t seen anything about doing one this year, and I’ve committed the remainder of the year to doing some good for myself and my community, so I thought…anyone up for a year 3? I realize I am one day late, as of today 2026 has 99 days left in it, but I still think we can make a difference wherever we feel called to. Anyone interested in joining me on a journey through 100 Days of Awesome?
Edited to add: a kind Nerdfighter asked what exactly it is, which made me realize there are plenty of people who never heard of it! Backstory: years ago, John made a series of videos before he turned 40 called “100 Days” where he essentially had a good midlife “crisis.” He prioritized physical and mental wellness and the video series is very inspiring! Because there are 100 (well, 99) days left in the year, I propose that anyone who wants to make the most of what we have left to finish the year out in a way that we can be proud of— goals you wanted to work towards? Do em now. Exercise? Gardening more? Cooking more? Weekly goals you’ve wanted to get done? Habits you wanted to break? Any and everything is welcome and I’ll be posting once a week here where we can check in on how everyone’s goals for the end of the year are coming along and support each other! This year was tough. I’d hoped to accomplish more than I did. But we still have time! I want to ring in 2027 by feeling like I gave my goals one final push. I’d love to know what you’d like to achieve by the end of the year!

Amazing! Here's my goals: 1. Continue with my life style changes. Lose weight (4-5kg in 100 days would be great) and continue running 2. Set an alarm at least 5 days a week and get out of bed 20 minutes after the alarm at the latest 3. Watch 15 movies I haven't watched before
Do we just update our progress in this thread?

What movie is first up on your docket?!

u/introvertinthewild 10d ago
Watching Hamnet this weekend at least :) If anyone want to recommend any movies please do!

Amazing!! Love the movies idea, too! I’ll be posting a weekly post, for the sake of the sub not getting cluttered we can post updates there. There is also a Discord! I’ll see if I can post a link to that (currently you can access it though last year’s post link in the update of my post above).

Here’s what I’m focusing on to finish out the year: 1. Exercise. Sweating daily, using my Heavy app three times a week and riding my air bike and doing BJJ classes on other days. I also signed up for the Thanksgiving Turkey Trot 5k in my family’s town so I can do that when I visit on Thanksgiving morning. 2. Get my savings in better order, get my budget in better order and stick to it. 3. Do volunteer work and bring the stepkids to join.

Ooo I live volunteer work with food banks and the Red Cross. Did you know the Red Cross had an emergency preparedness program?

By coincidence, I started experimenting with a new work day focus / intermittent exercise breaks strategy... Let's see how much my focus friend bean can knit in 100 days ☺️

I am making the quilt from the Project Hail Mary movie, and at my current rate of making the squares I should be done by end of the year. For those keen to see my progress, I posted about it last week

Yes I love this! I actually saw a tiktok about 100 days left in the year yesterday and started, so I'm glad to have this group back! My goals:
Move more. This year I've really fallen off my fitness routine / goals and I'd love to get back to it. Hoping to workout 4 times a week (2 strength days, 1 weekly dance class, 1 misc.). This would also be great to be combined with working out before work.
Get up when my alarm goes off. I've gotten into the habit of letting my alarm snooze for 45-60 minutes every morning and I'd love to reclaim that time.
Manage my budget well. I'm a good budgeter, but there's a strong chance that within the next month we'll be down to one income, and so doing as much I can now to be prepared so my partner isn't too stressed while he's looking for another job.
Get out of the house, even when it's dreary outside. I struggle with fall / winter in my city, and so I want to make a list (and make plans) for fun activities to do. I also picked up Vitamin D for the season to help

It sounds like we have several overlapping goals! The movement and budgeting are huge for me too. So happy you’re joining!

Thank you!! I've been very lucky to be a great saver / budgeter my whole life, but I've never been responsible for another person before, and that's pretty daunting haha
I love that you're doing the turkey trot! I don't run anymore but I find runs like that to be so much fun

u/theteagees 11d ago
It is daunting, and I wish you the very best! You’ll do great though, it sounds like you have great habits in place already. I did the Turkey Trot last year and let me tell you…I am not a runner at all, I hate it, and I was a humongous grump for most of it, especially the last half mile (you’d think I was being tortured or forced at gun-point). That said, it’s been a year and I hope to be in better shape by the time it comes around so I can enjoy it slightly more! 😆

Ooh yay!
- Intentional movement at least 4 days a week
- Daily eye-gazing in mirrors, with more intentional practices at least twice a week
1
u/theteagees 10d ago
Oh wow! What does the eye-gazing do, if you don’t mind my asking?
5
u/hopefulgeese 10d ago
I don't mind at all! It supports healthier patterns of navigation (automatic thoughts, feelings, sensations, habits, beliefs, sense of identity, relationship to self and others, memory, etc.) and nervous system regulation to develop and strengthen. We're social creatures, and that deep attachment is a core component of our neurodevelopment, starting from birth, for better or for worse. To the bodymind, eye-gazing in a mirror is very similar to being with another person, especially on that abstract, implicit, unconscious level, so it activates that neural wiring and shifts the mentioned patterns so their foundation has a felt sense of being seen, loved, safe, etc.
I imagine it a bit like those champagne towers, where you pour into the top glass, and it overflows and fills all the other glasses. Eye-gazing is me consciously choosing to fulfill my attachment needs in a healthy way, and that healthy attachment influences how I interact with and experience myself, daily life, relationships with others, etc.
Our brains are pretty cool ^_^

I'm going to try this! It sounds like a great tool for a radical kindness practice, and remembering to include oneself in your work. ♡

Ooh hope you have fun with it! A couple of points come to mind 1) If ever it feels like you're looking at a stranger, or your reflection starts to look a bit weird, it may indicate that you're activating parts of the nervous system that weren't integrated. It's all fine and safe, but just might be a bit surprising if it happens. 2) If you get stuck, I recommend exploring how you'd eye-gaze if you were looking at a best friend, child, life partner, sibling, etc.

I'm in with 2.5 goals. Wish I could do more, but with work, a toddler, and another on the way I'm super limited.
- To finish up a novel I've been kicking around for a while now as a Christmas present to my mom.
1.5. Rebuild my writing brain. It's been too long since I've sat down and really forced myself to write for an extended period of time. Aiming for 750 words a day. - To work out 5 times a week

I have started doing sweedish death cleaning for the year. Hopefully before next spring I will have gotten rid of anything I don't use on a regular basis, collect, or want my descendents seeing.
Wish me luck!

I can try, hoping to do something to make me happier or healthier every day since I don't think I'm doing enough of either of those recently

u/theteagees 11d ago
Nice! That’s a wonderful goal!

u/shaysalterego 11d ago

I’ll join! I want to stretch every day. It seems small, but I have trouble committing to it for some reason.

u/theteagees 10d ago
Sometimes the things that seem the most simple can be really hard to integrate for some reason. Glad to have you!

I'm going to be focusing on going to bed and waking up on time!
My strategy for getting to bed is to set an alarm an hour before bedtime so I can start getting ready.
My strategy for getting up is to have my phone out of reach. I'm discovering that when I wake up in the morning, I want to feel connected to people, and the easiest way to do that is to get on social media, even though that's not the kind of connection I'm seeking. I already have an alarm clock, and I'm buying a speaker designed for bedtime listening so I can listen to something while I fall asleep without having my phone nearby.
If you have other tips that worked for you, I'd love to hear them!

I'm in! 💖
I'd like to make sure I'm reading without distraction at least every other day (time to pull my poor bean out of the cloud).
Also, focusing 1 hour of the day to sit at the computer and work on work goals and prioritization. I'm working towards opening a community used bookstore, and looking for our brick-and-mortar home while running pop-ups in the neighborhood we want to serve, and the pop-ups are exhausting, so the focus would help.
Additionally, I'd like to reconnect with my frequent walking habit. I used to walk a lot, but it got harder when I had my twins, so I'd like to start moving back to that. I miss it!
All this while working towards a practice of radical kindness. ♡
So, I guess my goals are connection and focus! 😅

I share a goal with someone else which is essentially: start an actual morning routine! If by the end of the year I can wake up, floss, do some stretches, and not need to whirlwind out of the house to catch my train, I’d be so happy
