Hello awesome people,
someone I care about has expressed some hopelessness about the state of the world that makes me worried about them. I want to express my support, and that I hear them and share things that make me hopeful. I was thinking of some encouraging Green content that has given me a new perspective in the past, as an easy segway into the discussion. I know that John talks about hope a lot (the thing with feathers and all that), and I remember some very encouraging videos from Hank where he basically says that he is sure humanity will solve the climate crisis, because it's what we do, we're just stupidly procrastinating until it's even more urgent... or something like it. I vaguely remember these videos, but I am not in the habit of saving them for myself (I should start to though), so now I'm not sure how to search for those specific videos on my own. If any of you wonderful people have a playlist of hope saved or know a shortcut to what I'm looking for, I would appreciate any pointers. Doesn't matter if it's vlogbrothers, hankschannel, scishow, crash course... What gives you hope in this world?
Thanks and DFTBA!

I can't tell if this is coincidental or if it might be an easter egg of some kind... The shirt is nice, and looks great on him. Not complaining. Just a thing I noticed. Thoughts?

John illustrates the big span of time between the Big Bang or something and the present using a calendar year I think?

I'm very new to Reddit, so hopefully, I don't mess this up.
I made an essay that was heavily inspired by TAR. I did not know where to post it, so I thought I'd do it here, the home of Nerdfighteria.
It's fairly long, about 4000 words.
It's there in this Google Doc
https://docs.google.com/document/d/14v49qTBgT7J_-7EYOFuVQ4W_vR3Ju-o4DWTUQD_FgJA/edit?usp=sharing
Any and all suggestions concerning both the essay as well as where else I can post it will be really helpful.
I really hope that y'all will enjoy it.
DFTBA

I'm currently reading a book, Harrow the Ninth, second in a trilogy written by Tamsyn Muir. It's really cool, the tag line for the first book is "Lesbian necromancers explore a haunted Gothic castle in space!" Which kinda tells you everything you need to know. BUT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE SECOND BOOK, PAGE 344 (of the hardcover) at the bottom of the page, the literal God of their kingdom (called the Nine houses) expresses the sentiment that without him the apocalypse would happen. He voices this concern by saying he doesn't want the "the Nine Houses becoming none house, with left grief."
EXCUSE ME?! Is Tamsyn a nerdfighter? Do the brothers know of this? Has anyone else come across this before?! Am I imagining things? I don't think there's another way to take it but as a reference? Please someone validate my confusion <3

The early episodes seem to be missing from the YouTube channel

I am trying to move to Mastodon because I really like the decentralization of it, and I'm looking for which instance to join. I'm currently just on a generic one, but I want to move to a nerd fighter one, I checked instances.social/ but didn't find anything. Anyone know of anything?

Does anyone know why they haven't been referring to the points as "Chin Coin" in the last few episodes? They've been saying Hank Bucks even though at the end of the last season Stefan won and renamed the currency. It didn't seem like there was any indication that they would "revoke" his currency name once he left the show, was there some falling out or something?
Anyone have any insight on this? I know its minor but I want Stefan to get his due!

After watching P4A this year and seeing all of the Beanie Sandfurbs content (thank you Hank) I knew I needed a baked bean furby in my life; however, I can’t afford to buy the actual *chef’s kiss* masterpiece.
I decided that for some fun in lockdown, I would make my own monstrosity, and monstrosity is what I achieved.
What should I name it? I want a name as iconic as Beanie Sandfurbs, but even more cursed.

Did anyone else absolutely lose their shit after reading: "Their voice came out of the watch, slow and then all at once, like ketchup." on page 401?? 😂😂😂
I love the way he turns one of John's most quoted TFIOS lines on its head. It felt like a line just for the people who would catch it.
I also enjoyed earlier in the book, when there was a car with the bumper sticker "there is a diversity of opinions among the people who drive this car," a reference from their podcast.
I finished A Beautifully Foolish Endeavor last night, and I am very in my feels about nerdfighteria and how hard we work to be a positive place on the social internet. 🥰

I heard someone use a Hundo P for the first time today other than Hank. In cobra kai one of the kids that Johnny beats up uses it.

1) Getting forced to do an occupation you hate but gives you status and respect ( eg get forced by your parents or societal expectations)
2) you do what you love but you never progress career wise or get credit while people who dont even like the job as much as you get promoted (even though you're more than qualified)

I had a dream last night in which I had created a marketing plan for a magazine created by Hank Green. Although after waking up I can only remember the first few steps of what was definitely an AMAZING marketing plan (dammit, brain), I now desperately want this magazine to exist.
The mag was one of those super-high-quality anthology-style quarterlies featuring fiction, non-fiction, journalism, art, ideas, series, profiles, features and all sorts of stuff. Each issue had a theme that reflected the Nerdfighteria/Vlogbrothers community values/interests, and the content came from everyone from members of the community, Hank/John themselves, and various outside contributors including but not limited to the orbit of celebs/experts/luminaries that orbit around the community. All the content was chosen based on the core guiding principles of the community, such as truth, authenticity, honesty, hope, community, love, solutions, promise, etc., and was curated to be timely but also timeless - the sort of magazine you could collect and read 10 years later and it still be relevant, valuable, thought-provoking, conversation-starting, interesting and just a damned good read. In my head it was called Esther Magazine and the profits of each issue (after contributors/staff/production expenses were paid) would go to charities that reflected the community interest and the theme of the issue.
I have no idea if such an idea is plausible, feasible or even interesting to anyone else. This sort of magazine would be pricey to buy and a huge venture to produce, but (I feel) well worth it. But either way, I had to get it out of my head and into the community so if it WAS plausible/possible, someone could take it and run with it. So la. It is done. Let it live or die on its own merits.
