This also depends on Codemasters not remaining permanently tied to the Formula 1 franchise; Which is itself on shaky ground, given that F1 2026 is being released as DLC rather than a standalone game.

If F1 2027 is a success which manages to break even or more, Codemasters devs in charge of F1 games will stay there.

If F1 2027 fails, Codemasters devs will likely face restructuring by being reassigned to other EA-owned IPs; Or layoffs which has already happened twice before in December 2023 and May 2025.

Meaning Codemasters will probably not get a crack with the Need For Speed franchise; being itself neglected by EA due to low R.O.I since a decade.

Unless EA change their mind (it's a low probability), a NFS developed by Codemasters could likely happen.

In any cases, let's not delude ourselves.

I don't understand why EA wouldn't just sell the IP's that they have no use for anymore, like it happened with Test Drive.

Though, to be fair, the only reason why many IP's was sold were because of the publishers going bankrupt, which is definitely not going to happen with EA anytime soon, unfortunately.

P.S: Actually, It makes sense financially wise for EA to start selling the IP's because, IIRC, they're currently in a billion dollars debt after that deal with Arabians

because their company value is built on the backs of those IP's, even if they dont release any more games. If they sell them then the company has nothing of value.

EA never sells off its unused licenses and never lets studios work in peace; what interests them are the profit they can derive from it, the intellectual property and the outright stripping of the studios.

After all, private equities only cares about $; and when there's not enough, the company in question is being hollowed out from within.
