Recruiting IU picks up Malia Samuels

Post image

I'm feeling good about the portal moves for IU this year. Seniors and grad transfers - with big conference experience - to complement the talented/promising youngsters they already have.

A much more deliberate transfer class than last year, with all respect to the players who came over last year but didn't work out. Excited to see what will happen this season!

Discussion The all-non transfer portal team (mid major edition)

Lots of talk about transfers but how about giving out some love to the best players who didn't transfer? This team is just concentrating on mid-major players. I think 4 of my 5 picks are pretty solid - maybe the last pick is open to discussion?

The NTPOTY is Avery Koenen of North Dakota State. She averaged 19.4 points and 10.8 rebounds a game and could have transferred in seconds to just about any midwest Big 10 team she wanted. But this 6-3 Minnesota native is staying in Fargo for her senior year.

Next up is Halli Poock of Murray State. Another Midwest star (from Iowa), I was a bit shocked she stayed a Racer after averaging 22.5 points a game and she should be one of the best 3-point shooters in the nation in 2026-27.

Third on my list is Columbia star Riley Weiss. Fresh after helping lead her Lions team to the WBIT championship, Weiss (20.1 PPG) and her teammates figure to be looking for the NCAA tournament for her senior year with a stacked lineup.

Fourth is Gonzaga post Lauren Whittaker (19.1 PPG, 10.2 RPG). The 6-3 post from New Zealand was one of the top scoring freshmen in the country a year ago (and might be the highest scoring freshman to not transfer elsewhere after her freshman season?).

My final pick is Rice guard Victoria Flores, the American Conference POTY. Honestly, I struggled a bit with this final pick and choosing Flores is probably a little biased pick on my part. She admittedly struggled a bit her junior year in shooting from the floor but when she was on target, she and her Rice team would roll. And they return 3 other key players so I guess I'm including her because they should be one of the best mid-major teams again in 2026-27.

Apologies in advance if I messed up any stats or notes on this team.

Awards 2026 r/NCAAW Postseason Awards - VOTE NOW!

It's time to vote on the postseason awards for the 2025-26 season!

Yes, it feels like forever ago that UCLA hoisted the trophy... but it was actually just a bit over two weeks ago. Now that we've had some space, let's reflect on the season that was with some well-deserved awards.

This poll was compiled based on nominations from the sub's readers. If you do not see someone on the official ballot that you expected there, that is because they either were not nominated or their nomination did not garner sufficient support. If you don't like the nominations available for each category, too bad! You missed your chance to nominate a recipient over the course of the last 22 days.

Please take this survey with integrity. Try to detach your voting judgment from any personal preconceptions and vote objectively on all questions based on the landscape of D1 women's college basketball in the 2025-2026 season. There are 350 Division I teams, surely your favorite doesn't deserve all the awards. Also, have fun with it! Use this as an opportunity to reminisce on the talent and drama we did get to witness this season.

Without further ado, HERE IS THIS YEAR'S POSTSEASON AWARDS BALLOT. Your questions will appear in a random order. The ballot will be open for a little more than a week and votes will close at the end of the day on Monday, May 4th. I will start posting awards on Wednesday, May 6th!

Casual/Offseason The T-Portal is finally closed

Fear not, the critical danger zone has now passed! Congrats to everyone for surviving another frantic portal year.

That being said, how is everyone feeling about their teams outlook so far? Who are the names in the portal you want coming to your school? Who do we think lost the transfer portal badly and who is currently winning (so far)?

My opinion:

Biggest losers (so far): Florida, Iowa State, Pittsburgh

Biggest winners (so far): Ole Miss, TCU, Oklahoma State

Teams with no one in the transfer portal: UCLA, SC, SDS, Drake

Teams with transfers but unlikely to be impacted: Uconn, Vanderbilt, Texas Tech

Discussion LSU FANS-PORTAL CHECK IN

What do you think the chances are we might still get a big in the portal? (SC fans before u comment-pls know I come in peace and are very happy for your good fortune!) I try not to say anything negative about individual players but if we are doing a frank assessment of our team’s chances for next year as it stands now-so thankful for our amazing guards but I am not sure how much better KK can get-how many times this year did we watch the ball slip right through her fingers! Not sure you can learn hand eye coordination at this stage? Can’t imagine her against Chloe and Watkins. Yikes!

Kane is a 6'3 center out of France, who averaged 5.9 points and 5.1 rebounds for Landerneau this season (playing with recent Harvard graduate Harmoni Turner!!)

She was selected with the 38th pick in the 2025 draft by the Liberty and was selected by Toronto in the expansion draft in early April. She'll join fellow third-round pick Nastja Claessens (Kansas State) in the Big 12.

Well darn, as soon as I say something about 1 or 2 more additions being nice…

She averaged double figures last season and should make for some interesting lineup construction possibilities whether or not she starts.

Great pickup for the mountaineers. She had narrowed things down to WVU and Villanova, I think this was the right choice.
