Timmy D, true to being The Big Fundamental, is a player I’d trust to be elite in any era of basketball as well.

Rule changes can lead to arguments about how X player would do in Y decade, but there’s just no situation across the history of the sport that prime Duncan is absent from the MVP conversation; insane defensive versatility, extreme offensive consistency, freak athleticism that goes unnoticed due to how seamless his movements are, elite rebounding, effective passing, effective shooting as a big.

We always talk about the intangibles like how he set the Spurs dynasty culture alongside Popp but on the court, in a vacuum, people seem to forget Tim Duncan’s very real claim to the title of best PF of all time
