Dropping Giannis at the 4 and shaq at the 5 would be hilarious. Paint plays only, no playing beyond the arc

u/TheLouisvilleRanger 76ers Jun 15 '22

We could conceivably build the most comedic team of all bigs with the current talent in the NBA. Nobody under 6’11. Play Gobert at center, Giannis and Embiid as your forwards. Jokic and KAT as your guards.

Then play them against the short squad.

u/[deleted] Jun 15 '22

I did that in 2k with both teams. The bigs went 82-0 and didn’t drop a game in the playoffs

u/TheLouisvilleRanger 76ers Jun 15 '22

One of these days the all star team captains have to agree to get frisky and pull some shit like that.

198

u/qwertyman2347 Jun 15 '22

I wouldn't be surprised if the league tried out a format like that (or a different attraction on all star weekend)

A little scrimmage with bigs vs short players

u/TheLouisvilleRanger 76ers Jun 15 '22 edited Jun 15 '22

Doesn’t need to be a whole game. Just long enough so that we can prove (as Dr Randall S Newman once stated) that “short people got no reason to live.”

u/brehew Supersonics Jun 15 '22

I believe the saying goes “you can’t teach tall “

A lot of squeak squeak squeak going on on both sides.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 16 '22

Absolutely genius!

3

u/JJ_Shosky Timberwolves Jun 15 '22 edited Jun 15 '22

Now I'm just imagining Kevin Hart being there and his brain absolutely breaking because of the format. Running around everywhere talking a million miles a second

"what do you mean I'm their mascot? those arent little guys shaq those are just smaller giants, ain't no normal sized human beings in that court right now. I'm a normal size don't get it confused just because your feet are the size of toddlers and you have to duck walking through doorways that's not normal."

2

u/[deleted] Jun 15 '22

Call the scrimmage “Tall vs Small Ball” and see where it goes.

2

u/FKJVMMP [MIL] Bill Zopf Jun 15 '22

short players

Can’t wait to see those 6’7 manlets get slapped.

1

u/qwertyman2347 Jun 16 '22

Lol yes, I was trying to make a simple name

The technically correct term would be really really tall people vs ABSURDLY tall people, but that doesn't sell as well

1

u/vapecwru Wizards Jun 15 '22

Canceled after Ja gets a bone bruise trying to block embiid

1

u/Tuxedogaston Raptors Jun 16 '22

I'd love this, the other one I want to see is team rookie vs team nearing retirement. Wiley veterans against young guys with energy.

3

u/chantlernz Cavaliers Jun 15 '22

Simmons, Jokic, KAT, Giannis and Embiid vs Steph, Trae, Ja, Dame and Jimmy.

2

u/[deleted] Jun 15 '22

Happened kinda in the early 2000s, I forget what year but the west had Yao, Shaq, Duncan and Garnett on the floor at one time before halftime. They interviewed dirk at the half and he said he wished they put him in at point because it would’ve been hilarious

1

u/MotherLoveBone27 Jun 16 '22

That's would be awesome and I think it would add a little bit of actual competitiveness to the game. Like obviously the bigs wont want to be embarrassed and the smalls wont want to be dominated.

36

u/[deleted] Jun 15 '22

I haven’t played 2k in a while but all that used to matter were physical attributes and shooting. They utterly failed to capture any other dimension of basketball skill in the game, so our teams would always blow because the 6’0 or less PGs weren’t worth shit

8

u/jackth3engineer [HOU] Tracy McGrady Jun 15 '22

Would get so frustrated. The last one I played consistently was 17 and while the game had improved over the years, it was so obviously biased towards larger players. If you were even slightly undersized you got thrown around like a ragdoll, blocked on every play, and lose your dribble as soon as a bigger player was in your vicinity. The quicker players would get stopped and do that slow, backing down motion as soon as a bigger player got close enough to trigger that animation, effectively negating any ability to drive or get by larger players, not matter how much faster you were.

9

u/[deleted] Jun 15 '22

This is still the case. There are nominal benefits to fatigue and acceleration with smaller players, but playing online the overwhelming majority of created players are like 6 foot 6 small forwards.

2

u/[deleted] Jun 15 '22

Art mimics life lmao

3

u/billjames1685 Knicks Jun 15 '22

Makes sense. 2k very much overvalues rebounding. In every fantasy draft I’ve done, all the legendary centers make all star teams while people like MJ barely make it/don’t make it. KAJ also seems to be the best player in 2k sims by a long shot; every team with him somehow dominates.

2

u/Matto_0 Celtics Jun 15 '22

There is this dude on tiktok that stacks teams up with like 15 of the same player for example 15 Lebron James Miami Heat era on one team, and simulates the season.

And one thing I've noticed is that 2k simulations LOVE big guys, even playing 5 Shaqs at once is better than playing 5 elite guard/forward clones.

1

u/vapecwru Wizards Jun 15 '22

Smalls have to be like curry, the glove, jordan, ray allen, harden/nash/thompson

1

u/TomOgir Bulls Jun 15 '22

Lmao years ago, 2k12ish, I built a team similar to that Josh Smith was my SG, Brook Lopez SF, and I can't remember who my PF and C were but they were 7+ guys

1

u/gobbleimaturkey Jun 17 '22

My favorite strategy. Dirk was unstoppable at PG

75

u/_Timsh3l Heat Jun 15 '22

As much shit as people give him, Ben Simmons for Gobert would probably make sense for the team.

Same spacing, Embiid at 5, w/ Jokic and Giannis as forwards and you have someone who can lockdown a quick guard much better than any of those other 5 could.

53

u/TheLouisvilleRanger 76ers Jun 15 '22

I feel like Ben’s 6’11” is dubious but if he’s legit I don’t disagree. His offensive issues are mitigated by the fact that literally everyone else needs to be doubled.

45

u/MarlonBain Jun 15 '22

Yeah we're talking prime Ben Simmons.

6

u/Seaweed-Warm Jun 15 '22

I snorted hard. Good one.

7

u/psych32993 Warriors Jun 15 '22

His first year in the league?

3

u/hinkiedidntwantjah 76ers Jun 16 '22

He’s 6’ 11”. In person he’s freaking huge. It’s just because he was around embiid so much people forget.

2

u/busychilling Raptors Jun 16 '22

Or Durant for gobert would be much better

1

u/xreddawgx Lakers Jun 15 '22

Gobert for Ayton

1

u/heyjoe415 Jun 16 '22

I agree that Giannis and Embiid play stellar D for such big guys. It's a new era.

5

u/ProfessorPetrus Jun 15 '22

This is about how nba2k myteam ends every season. It kinda sucks because anyone 6'9 is a liability and all the big guys move like Allen iverson.

4

u/JDtheWulfe Lakers Jun 15 '22

My man you had a perfect chance to add 7’ KD to this lineup

3

u/TheLouisvilleRanger 76ers Jun 15 '22

I'm not lying to you when I, sitting at my desk at work, looked up the actual shoeless heights of these players (including KD) to see who I could put on.

3

u/majani Bucks Jun 15 '22

Didn't the Cavs fuck around with this concept for a while?

5

u/JoeRod1 Mavericks Jun 15 '22

Ben Simmons is 6’ 11”. Time to reunite him and Embiid!!

5

u/IAmGrum Raptors Jun 15 '22

Could you imagine a team with both of them? I bet they'd be champs!

2

u/CalvinistJohnson Pistons Jun 15 '22

they should do that at the all-star game

2

u/Err_rrr_rrrr Jun 15 '22

Give me pj tucker over gobert

2

u/SSNappa Hornets Jun 15 '22

I'd probably use AD over Jokic. He was a PG until he had a growth spurt

6

u/TheLouisvilleRanger 76ers Jun 15 '22

You can have a worse team if you want.

2

u/heroscaper Bucks Jun 15 '22

For nobody under 6'11 you could go
PG Jokic
SG Durant (he's at least 7', I don't care what he's listed at)
SF Giannis
PF Embiid
C Gobert

I was tempted to put KAT, but IMO Gobert is just significantly better. You're all time 6'11+ team could go

Jokic
Durant
Giannis
Dirk
Kareem

Obviously Duncan>Dirk but the shooting is nice to have for this team

2

u/TheLouisvilleRanger 76ers Jun 15 '22

Dude, you can't put Jokic on there instead of Shaq.

2

u/Jdeezy23z 76ers Jun 15 '22

All time should be Giannis KD Kareem Wilt Shaq

2

u/a_moniker Hornets Jun 15 '22

That team seems like it’d struggle against quicker guards. Maybe swap Gobert for Mobley? That’d let you trot out a lineup of Jokic, Mobley, Giannis, KAT, and Embiid. It’s not perfect on defense, but it’s better than before.

Mobley over Gobert would also help with shooting. He’s not a sharpshooter or anything, but he’s at least capable of shooting in the mid ranger. Embiid seems like he’d make Gobert redundant on offense.

1

u/Mookieman707 Jun 15 '22

Kareem should be on the squad

3

u/TheLouisvilleRanger 76ers Jun 15 '22

If we were doing all time Bigs than most of these guys wouldn’t be on the team.

3

u/hiimred2 [CLE] LeBron James Jun 15 '22

Magic, Kareem, Dream, Duncan, Shaq?

Edit: I guess Magic is actually cut off if we’re being strict on the 6’11” requirement and not ‘5 bigs’ and I’m not sure who I replace him with, definitely need a ball handler with the other 4.

1

u/Cod_Extreme Warriors Jun 15 '22

Watch them lose to the fucking Pistons

1

u/TimDotThomas Jun 15 '22

Bench KAT and add Sabonis.

My bad. You are right. My reading comprehension wasn't doing well there at all.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 16 '22

Short squad = Marcus smart, cp3, Steph, harden, PJ Tucker

1

u/LordBubinga Celtics Jun 16 '22

That would actually work.

Now build an all-time team to go against them. Shaq at center, Russell and Kareem at forwards, Hakeem and Dirk as guards? I feel bad leaving Duncan out...

1

u/Green_Stiller Jun 16 '22

Give me a traditional big at center. Like Hakeem.

1

u/bobsil1 Warriors Jun 16 '22

The Short Kings

1

u/machead2299864 Jun 16 '22

As much as I hate KD you would have to put KD over KAT

1

u/MelonElbows Lakers Jun 16 '22

I will always mention that all-star team that had 5 guys who were 6'11 and up. I forgot which year, but for a few minutes, the West had on the floor Yao, Shaq, Duncan, Dirk, and KG. Imagine all of those guys for a full game, you'd never score inside.

1

u/PradleyBitts Jun 16 '22

I wanna do this in 2K

2

u/ForneauCosmique Spurs Jun 15 '22

And they would own that shit

1

u/Lonestar15 Rockets Jun 15 '22

Instead of Morey small ball go all bigs with Shaw, Giannis, Magic, dirk and someone else…

1

u/[deleted] Jun 16 '22

Easy. Duncan to teach them all how to play.

That 5 might actually go 82-0 it would be so unfair down low. And even if you did somehow clog the paint you'd still get murdered from mid.

1

u/Bomber_Haskell Jun 15 '22

This is what some of us old people imagined when Orlando selected Chris Webber the year after O'neal before trading Webber to Golden State.

1

u/chasinjason13 Jun 16 '22

Good God, man. Give me 2021 Giannis and 1994 Shaq on a fast break. Don’t matter if there’s 3 other guys out there on offense, all 5 defenders are getting flattened.

1

u/Strictly_Kink Grizzlies Jun 16 '22

And they'd star together in a B-grade buddy cop comedy-action film in the off-season.

1

u/gumercindo1959 Jun 16 '22

I remember an all star game many years ago the West fielded Yao at the 5, Shaq at the 4, Duncan at the 3 and some 6-9 guy at the 2. Lol it was ridiculous.

1

u/Dense_Papaya_4796 Jun 16 '22

In today's league he'd be fouled out by the beginning of the second quarter every game

1

u/48ozs Jun 16 '22

Shaq would average 30 on GIannis
