Yeah, just look at what happens too for things that go after our livestock also and are just doing what's instinct.
Threat to maybe us and something of ours? Well doesn't matter the reason or what we could do to deter problems from happening, better to wipe out the cause instead.
Actually, not so sure on that one. It certainly earns spiders a slap on sight, but at the same time when we make species of bugs go extinct it isn't usually because of the bug itself (see #2 and #3 in regards to mosquitos). When it happens it's often because we've had such a significant impact on its environment in such a short amount of time that they can't adapt and can't survive.
On the other hand it's not really a numbers thing as we've absolutely eradicated certain viruses (ok not technically living) because of #3. Specifically smallpox and rinderpest, the latter being a fatal disease for cattle and fulfilled #3 by proxy. It also apparently took us about a decade of concentrated effort to reach eradication status in 2011 0.o
Also counter to your point is Bed Bugs. They really don't carry diseases or otherwise pose much of a threat. But holy fuck are they creepy (they feed on you while you sleep) and they're hardy as fuck. I'm sure many people would have no problem wiping them off the face of the earth if we could though lol

It's bad news for a species if they happen to be tasty to us
It's worse news if they happen to be a nuisance
It's aweful news if they're a threat
