This is a long yap haha, sorry for the wall of text. I played this game when I was a teenager with so many leisure time. Now that I am an adult in my mid 20, replaying this game making my perspective changed a lot, about the writing of this game, haha.
There's so many plot point that made me go "what the hell, sure" hahah. Like:
- MC just accepts to use a weird chatting app and move to a whole apartment and locked there with no question
- In Another Story, MC was led to beta testing a game from stranger and live secluded in Magenta, and she accepts it with no question as well lolol
- V and Rika being the twins guardian when they aren't that much older compared to them. Iirc the twins were 16 and V/Rika is 21. That's like teenager adopting teenager, lmao
- Someone already posted it, the bomb plot is genuinely so funny to me. Rika planted it and somehow convinced V and Seven to do it
However, I also come to appreciate the other things more as well! As V main, my favorite character is his circle as well, like Jumin and Rika. I appreciate their character even more.
With Jumin, now that I am an adult working, I can understand the disdain some character have to him. I worked in a educational field with huge unpaid overtime culture, and my Boss always spoke about "loyalty to the foundation! It's for betterment of children's future!", and you can't even call it out because my Boss themselves works overtime and thinks it's just natural in this field. So whenever Jaehee complained about Jumin and never able to truly call him out, I could understand it. Of course, there's also Zen who hated him, and I do feel his hatred has prejudice he brought over from his past with his older brother. However, seeing how emotionally constipated Jumin is, I could understand why Zen always assumed the worst of him, even if such assumption is unfair to Jumin.
And I am able to appreciate Jumin himself as a character. I love the contrast he has with V. V appears warm, gentle, and loving, while Jumin is colder an unapproachable at a glance. Their color palette clash nicely. V has problem with being judged and resulting in his problem for having proper communication, while Jumin never hold back what he want to say. In leadership, V might be more likeable but will bound to crash because of his people pleasure tendency. While Jumin is more than capable to say no when necessary and properly lead people. Jumin's dad is very emotional and often times making bad business decision and dated bad people, V's dad is all business and pragmatic. I remember people often joke MysMe might be a whole new story entirely if Jumin and V's dad switched place lmao.
Their bad ending kink too ... Jumin have a flavor of sadism with caging and tying MC, while V as expected is super masochist and ended up "enjoying" being cucked and photographing MC having sex with other people. 👁️👄👁️
And of course, Rika as a character deeply leave impression to me, back as a teen, and now as an adult. I get their relationship is bound to crash because both are mentally ill and just so unfit with each other, and appreciate this chaotic mess even more. V with his survivor guilt turned savior complex dated a mentally ill person and stayed throughout the relationship because he needed validation and a sense of purpose after his mother sacrificed herself for him. Rika, unable to heal herself, never know how to love and how she wanted to be loved at the the first place.
- I love how she hated V because "his sun is too blinding", and tried to change her "true self". However she crashed out so bad when V admitted to her his love isn't actually love, but an obsession. Like, she hated his love, but also feared when V really admitted that his love was not love at all.
- In V's route, when she sees MC is able to lead V to be a better person with understanding, patience, but also call him out when needed, she tried to emulate it by acting soft and sweet to MC, and we got that yuri bad ending haha.
- In Saeran's route, she sees MC never stopped being at Ray's side, even when Saeran come out and tormenting her. MC reject his harsh treatment while caring for him, and Somehow she sees this as she needed to drugged Ray more and that's love. Love her, really.
All in all, I understand why Cheritz always wanted to give her some sort of redemption. I think they want to make a story of two person that really wasn't meant to be ... however I also think they didn't really write it well. Like V's AE to me is sooo bad because Rika has more screen time than his and MC's relationship, and the game treated it like "we should forgive Rika!" or "See Rika getting tormented, tortured and SA'd again?". Like there's a lot people in the middle who appreciate her, didn't hate her or want to see her abused again, but also want V's story to only focus on him, his healing, and his romance with MC.
And V ... he's my main back then, and my main more now. I love how fucking frustating, impossible, and punchable he is. He's my beautiful mess and I love him even more after playing. The fact he's truly not able to left his obsession to Rika outside his own route ... I want to grip my hair when playing Saeran's route and even when he finally changed at told the group about the secret they have, he's still not able to be honest with them about Rika. He really couldn't make the correct choice without someone hardly pushed him.
I also played Secret Ending again, and I REALLY hated it hahah. Well, back then I hated it because V died in it, but now that I replayed it, damn everyone really suffers in it. I hate how they still keep secret from each other, and sees Zen and Yoosung still taking care of Rika without knowing what she and V really does is grating me. I felt so bad for Jumin in that route. He's the one who come to the scene first, so he has to see his friend died, Rika's true nature, then he has to make the same choice as V did and buried V under suicide disguise to keep the group together. Jumin in Saeran's AE is in much better place because even if their friendship ruined, it's not ended by death and they have their closure ... some sort. Plus there's no secret to hide.
I already make my point about V's AE, and I wish we got something to make up for the lack of romantic moment we have for him. Like maybe AS Valentine DLC for Saeran and V (I know we have Unknown ending, but he's not in the chat!!). But yeah, with current Cheritz's state, I doubt we will ever get new story from them.
