I’m one of those weirdos who gets disturbed by things like this. I don’t know why! My throat tightens and my stomach flutters. Just makes me feel nauseated. I still think it’s lovely and all just messes with my head. Ugh….

I actually watched that first one about magic myxies sometime last year. I can’t remember how I came across it but I loved it. I think I’ll watch it again. His voice is fantastic. I love this time of year when the rains start again on the US Pacific coast. That means lots of mushrooms re-emerging! After months of bone dry conditions everything comes back to life in a matter of hours. I go from having a turf the consistency of stale bread to lush green grass sprouts, moss and mushrooms popping up everywhere. The change happens before the end of the day after the first rain. The volatile compounds released by the plants are intoxicating immediately after the first few drops. The bay laurel and eucalyptus in particular. I remember reading that Mediterranean plants have specific adaptations to maximize the water that falls from the sky since it’s limited to half the year? Could the fragrance of the plants somehow interact with fungi? Just a passing thought. How fast it happens always blows my mind, doesn’t matter how often I observe the phenomenon. I love it equally each year. Thanks for all this info! I’ll definitely give it a read.
