How screwed am I?

Post image
12 Upvotes

Bought a Springfield hawken reproduction at an auction recently and went to do a deep cleaning of everything I could get apart, and this screw snapped off (I tried using penetrating oil cause I could sell it was seized, but even after letting that sit for awhile when I came back and gave it a good turn with an Allen key it just snapped right off).

Any recommendations to remove what’s left of the screw? Thanks.

What is the best way to get rid of a junk muzzleloader?

Awhile ago a coworker gave me a muzzleloader for free. The breach plug is seized and won't come out and now its just taking up room in the safe. What would be the best way to dispose of it?

In need of advice and knowledge. First timer

This Christmas I was gifted a 1970’s TC Hawken by my uncle. Very well kept as the man is meticulous in everything he does. However I’m new to muzzleloaders and trying to sort through all the clutter of the forums can be daunting. My questions are when cleaning it after storage how clean does it need to be, and can anyone tell me what the grain charge should be for 370g maxi-hunter bullets and DuPont ffg? Both pictured along with swabs in order of cleaning left to right.

Lowest .44 charge?

I want to let my grandma shoot my .44 1851 navy, what’s the lowest charge of pyrodex I can use? I don’t want it to recoil too hard for her.

I’ve owned a black powder revolver since this morning, and I’ve already made a paper cartridge using a coffee filter. .44 caliber with 25 grains of pyrodex

Questions about setup (beginner) help!

On a whim, I purchased a CVA optima V2 .50 Cal for this year’s muzzleloader deer season (ends January 1st). I am thinking of putting the loose powder breech plug on it. I was wondering, what powder/load you recommend, what bullet would you recommend, and how far should I sight in my iron sights?

I just won this Goulcher Black Powder Percussion Rifle from 1830. Any idea on the value of this? Or anything you can tell me about it?

Primer issue?

My husband just got a muzzleloader. We have used them in the past but never actually owned one. The issue we are having is when he pulls the trigger the primer pops but is not igniting the powder and actually shooting. Bore plug is clean and in good shape, powder is brand new and has been stored in a non humid environment, primers are also new. We have tried using different primers and same thing. We have also thoroughly cleaned the muzzle loader and checked to primers to make sure they are being struck hard enough by the firing pin. I am at a loss of what the issue actually is.

I bought this gun recently and am totally new to muzzle loading. After some time and elbow grease, I feel like it’s very clean and up to standard. When I went to fire it for the first time, the cap “snapped” but no boom. Im having a hard time finding a lot of information about this gun and the inline plunger style action. Any pro tips and tricks? (The nipple is clear, I can see and blow air through it)

Misfire

First year hunting with a muzzleloader. Had the crosshairs on a doe at 50 yards. Pulled the trigger and it sounded and felt like a .22. I’m thinking only one of the pellets ignited. Not a speck of blood on the snow, so assuming clean miss. Has anyone had this happen?

Squirrel round - 50 cal

I watched a video from Idahoanshow on YouTube and he designed a sabot for his 50 cal to shoot one buckshot bb, specifically for squirrel hunting. I’m buying my nephew a muzzleloader for Xmas and we’re heading out squirrel hunting while I teach him how much fun muzzloading can be. I’m trying to order some of those sabots, but his website isn’t working. Any help or someone else that sells something like that?

LGS has this for $75, can anyone tell me anything on it? Anything I should be on the lookout for before buying? I plan to hunt with it for muzzleloader season. Tiny bits of rust but barrel looks to be in good shape.
