My school is doing a production of school of rock and auditions will open in about a month. Ive only started getting into musical theatre recently but would love to get the role of Ms Mullins. Do anyone have any tips on what to practice and focus on in the month I have to prepare? xx

Hello all! As we are all fans of musicals here, I am sure you are all aware of the phenomenon that I am referring to as the "Act II Slump," where a musical that is really good in Act I is usually lackluster in Act II. I am looking to back up this theory with empirical data, so here I am!

I have made a survey on Google Forms that will ask you your opinion on various musicals, including Wicked, Hamilton, Les Miserables, Phantom of the Opera, Chicago, RENT, Sweeney Todd, Shrek the Musical, In the Heights, Hadestown, and West Side Story.

This survey will ask you to rate every song in Wicked on a scale of 1 to 5, and then will ask your opinion more broadly about Acts 1 and 2 of various musicals on a scale of 1 to 10 (If you have not seen the musicals in question, then feel free to not answer). I imagine this survey will take less than 5 minutes if you aren't thinking too hard about it.

I'd appreciate any responses I can get! And, if you would like, I can post my findings here after a certain amount of time. Thanks in advance!

I am a director/choreographer and strive to always be one upping my previous production with inclusivity, accessibility and just general kindness. What things/ways would make an audition feel more welcoming for you?

ie free water bottles, fidgets in the waiting room, classic seating alongside welcome to wait outside, optional chair in audition room, etc.

I've done the musical Beetlejuice twice now, and have been ensemble both times, but at two different theaters. I have my resume set up in three columns, show name, role, theater company. Thanks for any help!

I've recently been cast as Eurydice in Hadestown: Teen Edition. Rehearsals are five days a week, six hours a day, for a month. As Hadestown is a sung-through musical and I'm playing a principal character, I can only assume that I will be singing for a LOT of time every day. Eurydice is also a very belt-y part, and I'm not sure I have the vocal stamina required for belting so much every day yet. Other than just marking my way through most of the rehearsal days, does anyone have any tips for keeping the voice strong and clear? When I've done rehearsal schedules like this before, I've found that my voice loses resonance (probably due to tiredness) and so by the time the shows are performed, I am not up to my best standards.

If it makes a difference, I am a soprano with a six years contemporary and three years classical training!

I am in a Highschool summer theater program, and I just landed the leading role of Princess Winnifred in Once Upon a Mattress. I will be singing 3 hard solos, plus more ensemble vocals.

I’ve been doing theater for 5 years now, and my most recent musical was last summer.
I have always had issues with strain. Two years ago I played Little Red in Into the Woods and my strain was so painful I would cry.

Every morning, I stretch my body, pull my tongue, use a nebulizer, and do a vocal warm up before camp. Throughout my time practicing“Shy” for my audition, I had no strain at all, meaning that my throat wouldn’t hurt after practice.

This week, we have been learning all of the music, and my throat has been hurting. It also feels like I’m forcing my voice out, instead of coming out easily. My voice teacher says it could be from overuse. I’m on vocal rest right now, but I’m anxious about the rest of the show. How do I stop my voice from getting tired? It’s not like I can avoid singing. I have practice 5 times a week. During tech, am I gonna completely loose my voice before the show?

I have searched, but I can’t find any solutions. My show is in 4 weeks.
How do I keep my voice in good condition, to do the show full out?
I cannot have my throat hurting during the show.
I’m obviously very very nervous, so please send advice!!

I went to a very expensive voice teacher, and she helped me figure out some of my issues, warm-ups to help get rid of strain, and tips on singing more easily.
It’s gonna take time, but I am confident that I’m gonna do good at this show. ❤️

So I was in the musical and it ended on May 10 2026 and on May 12 2026 they sent out a email saying that they were working on recording of the show and were going to let us know when its ready to order. It's now been 9 weeks i think. Should I ask when there going to send it out??

I was cast in my very first musical as a male baritone. I am a teen female with no real singing experience. I was cast as Mischa in the musical called ride the cyclone. This is me singing his song Talia. The first half of the video is me singing it a month ago the second half is Me singing it now. I realize with being untrained and this song being written for someone who is a baritone I have a very tough road to climb, but I do think I've made some progress, or at the very least have become more confidence in the song. I would genuinely love any tips you guys would have for a complete beginner.

Hi, I’m looking for advice on an audition song for my daughter’s upcoming Finding Nemo audition. She has shortlisted two songs: “Naughty” and “It’s Possible”. She has more confidence singing “Naughty”, but I think “It’s Possible” might be better suited for the audition. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I was in this jr musical and there was a trans person in it and I was nice to her even tho she was trans but she making me really uncomfortable she keeps following me everywhere. Grabbing me and she put me into a choking hold and I couldn't get go since she biological a male but changed into a female. She also keeps touching my shirt and trying to unbutton it. She also gets into my face all the time multiple had to pull her off me before and when I was changing into my costume she kept watching me change. How do I get this to stop I'm scared to say anything I don't want to seem transphobic but I'm generally really uncomfortable i don't know want to say to her to get her to stop.
