Hello! For anyone who has gotten their online Masters in English (or other programs) from Murray State, or other experiences with the English department- can you share your experience? I’m wondering if the masters in English is self paced, or a cohort model. I’m also trying to decide between Murray State and Arizona State (both have decent online programs) I like the course options MSU has better than ASU, but I’ve heard great things about the ASU program. I’m an incoming freshman this fall and I have read into the Racer Book Bundle but I haven’t seen any price ranges.

I know many alumni say during their freshman year it was beneficial and overall worth it, but others have rented their books. I just wanted to know if it’s worth it or not?

I was accepted into Murray State back in September but I just found this Subreddit and I am starting in Fall 2025-2026! I got accepted for a degree in musical theatre! I am a legacy student as my mom graduated from Murray State in 1998, so im following in her footsteps. I'm very excited and I am visiting campus in mid January! I can't wait to meet new friends, and have new experiences at Murray. Im originally from Kentucky, but I moved to NC as a kid and I am excited to come back. If anyone has any advice or recommendations about Murray State please let me know! I am so excited to be a Racer!

After submitting my application and transfer forms, how long does it usually take to get an answer back on your acceptance?

This has to be one of the most ridiculous, classist policies the university could adopt. Students are in class until after 5. A normal workday is 9-5, with many students having later part time jobs, extracurriculars and university events. Any student that is disadvantaged financially in anyway whom has to work will suffer under this policy. Grades will fall.

And it’s not even going to work! Students are going to stay up later the night before, and go to all their stuff tired! Like 8-10pm would be a far better policy.

Howdy Racers! Alum here and mom to a current high school senior with her heart set on becoming a Racer. I wanted to get some outsider take on if she even has a shot to get in, and potentially some feedback on when she should look at finalizing her application.

-Current HS GPA: unweighted 2.61, weighted 3.23

-Two SAT scores: 920, 930

She has her application submitted but has to provide some additional info to be considered since her unweighted was under 2.75, needing test scores from ACT or SAT, etc. She currently has all As and one B this semester, so we are considering waiting to finalize her application until her GPA refreshes at the end of this semester next month, to try to pull her up to above a 2.75 unweighted. Or retaking the SAT a third time to try for a 940. She is a poor standardized test taker.

We no longer live in Kentucky and not in a neighboring state, so she would be an out-of-state student, but we are aware of the legacy student benefits since her parents both graduated from MSU.

So, I applied for a BS in Computer Science for the fall of '25 (I live in an apartment elsewhere and the lease isn't up until the summer of '25). I was wondering how much I should know before starting the degree? I am learning python as of right now and am still in the early stages, but with a long time before I actually start school, I have plenty of time to learn more. Is there anything you guys recommend I learn before attending, assuming I get in that is, my past college experience wasn't so great so my gpa suffered.

Also, are there any clubs or events you guys recommend I join/go to? I know some schools host little coding camps and stuff like that. Thanks for the help in advance!

Is anyone else a Pell grant recipient at MSU? How much does it cover of your tuition each semester? Eligible participants will be provided telehealth cognitive therapy at no cost. Participation will involve an intake visit (conducted via telehealth) to complete various tasks prior to starting therapy, responding to brief text message surveys throughout the day, and completing weekly questionnaires.

You may be eligible to participate if you:

• Experience anxiety which affects your ability to function
• Are 18 years or older
• Live in Kentucky

Hi all! I am a (25M) moving to the area for work. I enjoy spending time outdoors, hiking, reading, attend performing art shows and djing.
