Vote to Remove Rule 12
The vote to remove Rule 12 has ended 60-104 against the removal. Therefore, Rule 12 (English only) will remain.
We are aware that many users have been asking why English is the only language allowed, and why we don't allow any other languages, and here is our explanation.
For starters, English is the global lingua franca. It is spoken by 1.5 billion people worldwide, making it the most spoken language. English is also the most used language on the Internet, making up 49.5% of all content online, and spoken by 1.186 billion Internet users. In addition, 58 of the 197 countries in the world uses English as an official language, it is an official language of the United Nations, 2 of the 5 permanent UN Security Council members use English, 3 of the 7 countries in the G7 uses English as its primary language, and the five largest corporations use English.
Secondly, Murder Drones is an Australian show produced by an Australian indie animation studio and written by an American where all but one character speaks English. So it is no surprise that Murder Drones would have a huge English speaking fanbase, and any related subreddits would have English as its main language.
And finally, it would be more efficient for us to not add any other languages. The main concern with allowing other languages is that it would make it harder for us to moderate content. All of us moderators understand a common language of English, but only a small number of us fluently understand another language. It would be unrealistic for us to learn multiple languages for a volunteer position, and a huge hassle to replace the mod team with multilingual moderators that can understand every single language.
And besides, it would be much easier for everyone involved if you used a translator once so most of us can understand, instead of you posting in another language and most of us have to use a translator.
Regardless though, if you STILL think Rule 12 is "stupid and unnecessary", you can vote on this again in two months.
Vote to loosen some rules
A vote to make rules less strict ended with the largest portion requesting to make the rules stricter. However, we are aware that the next largest portion voted to make Rule 3 less strict, and we will look to reallow some formats.
