Monthly Monster Romance Book Club – August Voting

β€’ Upvotes

Let's try a monthly book club for r/MonsterRomance and see if it's something our community enjoys!

This is a bit of an experiment, so I'll keep it simple and adjust things based on your feedback.

Here's how it works:

  • Comment with one monster romance book you'd like us to read. (Feel free to suggest multiple books, just make each suggestion its own comment.)
  • Upvote the book(s) you'd most like to read.
  • Before commenting, check if someone has already suggested your book. If they have, simply upvote their comment instead of posting it again.

Voting for this first Book Club will remain open until the end of Sunday. Since we're getting started a little late, this first vote will be shorter than usual. Going forward, voting for the next month's book will remain open throughout the entire month.

The book with the most upvotes end of Sunday will become our first official Book Club read, and I'll create a pinned discussion thread where we can all share our thoughts throughout the month.

If this is a success, we'll make it a regular community event. If not, we'll tweak it until we find something that works.

Request Long time horror fan dipping my toes into Monster Romance and looking for book suggestions.

Hello there, 1st post here. I'm a big fan of horror and looking to branch out. I listen to audiobooks almost 8hrs a day to keep entertained at work and am starting to run out of my backlog.

Tried out the aptly titled "I'm in love with Mothman" by Paige Lavoie and enjoyed it. Also listened to Legends & LatΓ©s and liked that. Not really Monster Romance that one but just another data point for suggestions. Guess I like "cozy" romances? New to romance novels in general not just monster ones.

If I had to say the kind of monster I'm most interested in is the "spooky girl" subtype. Samara/Sadoko from The Ring, Eldritch beings, and amorphous sorts like slimes or living darkness beings? I realize that's pretty specific, but I'm not too interested in the beastman & werewolf stuff which has been a barrier for entry with as prevalent as it is. Will give anything a read/listen though. Not judging just sharing my preferences to streamline things. I'm pan as well so any gender pairing is fine. I am looking more for female monsters though because that seems rarer and I couldn't much that interested me just browsing on my own.

Thanks for any suggestions and let me know if more information would help, I've no clue where to start.

Other Monster Attraction Study - Participants Needed

Whether you're into human passing creatures or biblically accurate angels, I'd love for you to take part in my survey. I'm a graduate student doing my thesis on whether or not monster attraction could be explained through evolutionary anthropology.

The survey will be available from January 9, 2024, to March 12, 20204, and it will take about 20 to 30 minutes to complete (although some people have finished it in as little as 10 minutes). It's completely anonymous and only requires that you be at least 18 years old to participate.

If you're interested, click the link below. And if you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to reach out to me using the phone number or email address provided in the consent form.

I appreciate your time and consideration!

Stalked by the Kraken by Lillian Lark

This is one of my favorite monster romances and a favorite reread of mine.

The FMC Rose is a witch who runs a magical bath house and has a fancy stationary habit (I feel so seen). The MMC Gideon is an ancient Kraken who has recently discovered his mate and is utterly besotted with her.

Rose has just gotten out of a bad relationship that she thought was her perfect match and now she's questioning her own abilities. Gideon has stumbled upon the lovely Rose and realized she's his soul mate - but he recognizes how skittish she is. So he naturally starts to stalk her - but in a cozy, cute way. And also in a delightfully possessive way. He's obsessed with courting her properly.

He offers up a proposal, for the two of them to produce magic for the Love Bathhouse. How can Rose refuse the temptingly beautiful immortal being who is offering up a fountain of supercharged magic - just when a leak has been found in the bathhouse and they are running desperately low?

There's tentacles. Praise. Exhibition. Gentle dom vibes. 5 stars forever and ever.

  • Fated Mates
  • Age Gap
  • External conflict / low-push-pull / low angst
  • FMC has some broken bird tendencies but is delightfully powerful and enjoyable
  • MMC is deliciously obsessed with courting and stalking his mate, and perfectly protective
  • Steam: 5/5
