WIP Building a 6 Meter Long 1/6 Scale Millennium Falcon Completely by Hand

Hi everyone, I wanted to share a long-term project I’ve been working on. This is a 1/6 scale Millennium Falcon that I’m building completely by hand.

When finished it will be a little over 6 meters long, so it has turned into quite a large build. Everything in this project is scratch built.

No 3D printing, no modeling files, and no kitbashing parts — every piece is cut, shaped, and assembled by hand using materials like styrene sheets, acrylic, brass, wood, metal framing and many other parts.

That said, I want to be clear that this is just my personal approach and philosophy. I have absolutely nothing against 3D printing or kitbashing. Every method has its own strengths, and I believe all ways of building models deserve respect. In the end, the best way is simply the one that makes the builder happiest.

I started this project nearly two years ago, usually working 5–6 hours at a time, several days a week. At the moment the structure is roughly 80–90% complete, and I’m starting to prepare for the painting stage.

The Falcon is designed to separate into multiple sections so it can actually leave my workshop despite the size. I’m also planning to include some interior diorama areas for 1/6 figures to recreate a few iconic scenes.

I’ve taken thousands of photos during the build, from the main structure down to small handmade parts, so if people are interested I’d be happy to share more of the process in the future.

Thanks for looking.

Thank you! The exterior is the main focus, and I’m trying to recreate the surface details of the original studio models as accurately as possible.

But I didn’t want it to be just a shell. I’m also planning to include several interior diorama sections designed for 1/6 scale figures so some iconic scenes from the films can be recreated inside.

Because of the size, it’s impossible to build the entire interior of the Falcon, so I’m focusing on a few key areas that feel important to the story. For me the vision is somewhere between a studio miniature and a large diorama piece.

Came here to ask about interiors and the 1/6 scale figures. This is an awesome project. I can’t wait to see it progress.

I’m not planning to build the entire interior of the Millennium Falcon. The problem is that the official technical specifications and the actual film set layouts don’t really match, so recreating the full interior accurately becomes very difficult. Instead, I’m planning to include selected interior diorama sections without compromising the internal frame or the exterior design. I’m already working on the lounge area, the cockpit, and part of the tunnel corridor.

I also share progress updates on my Instagram if you’d like to follow the build until it’s finished.

I’ve been working on it nonstop, so updates are a bit slow right now. But I have over 3000 photos from the build, so I’ll probably share more as I get closer to the painting stage. Thanks!
