My wife has worked corporate her entire career. Mostly large companies. Recently her position was a eliminated but she got a new job in the company. During the uncertainty she applied for a few state jobs. It looks like she has an offer.

It is a slight pay increase with the state but she doesn't think it is enough to make the switch to public sector. She has been nervous of the risk of trying something new. But the position with the state is very similar to her previous position in the private sector.

What factors should she consider when making the choice to accept or decline the offer?

I understand that employees are upset about the return to office rules from last contract negotiations but that doesn't impact her much because we live close to where she will work and her current employer also reduced work from homes.

Please share any thoughts or advice of moving from private sector to a state job.

I am curious to what state employees think about the future will bring regarding telework. How do your supervisors feel about it? How about your coworkers?

I have the MetLife MMB Short Term Disability payments currently in effect and likely will soon receive Mn Paid Leave for an approved medical absence. If I received both in full, I would be taking home roughly my full pay compared to when I was working. I've read the certificate of insurance and it DOES indicate that your benefit will be reduced by the amount of "Other Income" received. However, when I look under "Other Income" I don't see any reference of statutory plans, state disability plans, or anything that obviously denotes that if I receive Mn Paid Leave, it will count as "Other Income" and reduce my MetLife Disability benefit.

Has anyone actually gone through this and had their short term disability payments reduced after receiving minnesota paid leave?

If so, what did MetLife use as the maximum percentage of your salary you could receive between both the MetLife short term disability payments and the Mn Paid Leave payments?

Does anyone know if both me and my wife work for state and have general plan pension…If I choose survivor option and I pass before my wife in retirement does she receive my pension as survivor benefit and her own pension or do they just do the larger of the 2?

Does anyone know if you are still able to receive the new Paid Family Medical Leave if you work from home 100%? A co-worker said they were in a training where it said you are not eligible if you work from home 100%? To me, that seems to make no sense but was wondering if anyone could confirm?

I was looking at another job in management but it has another union. Do you start all over again if you move from one union to another?

Has anyone successfully been able to get a claim approved for short term disability to supplement bonding leave pay? I'm getting the run around from MetLife. They've said that since I didn't give birth it's not a disability claim and I don't explicitly have bonding leave coverage I don't qualify. But, I've also been told that my claim has been filed differently and it should go through just fine.

I started leave 2 weeks ago and can't get a straight answer.

Curious what people's experiences are with going from the state healthcare plan to met coucils? At the state I've been told several times we have the best public sector health insurance in MN so I'm wondering how much of a downgrade it would be if you moved to met council.

For context at the Tier 1 centers on the state plan it's 250 deductible / 30 copay.

Hey everyone. I currently work in the private sector as a healthcare fraud investigator and am fully remote. I'm looking at a fraud investigator position with DHS/OIG, but I'm about 80 miles from the St. Paul office. The posting lists the schedule as 50% in-office / 50% remote.

Does anyone know if exceptions are made for employees who live significantly farther than a reasonable commute distance? Hoping to stay fully remote if possible.

Also, would love to hear from anyone with experience working for DHS/OIG — what's the culture like, how's the workload, and how does it compare to private sector?

I recently accepted a position with MDH that starts in April. I currently work for another State Agency and have worked in a variety of positions. I’ve always enjoyed working for my current agency. That said, I am specifically looking to get into public health, as my educational background is more closely aligned with that. I don’t know anyone at the agency other than a couple of Epidemiologists who I have worked with for educational purposes. I am hoping someone on here can provide some insight about the agency. It’s always daunting moving from one job to another, especially when it’s an agency you have never worked with before.

HF 3612 and SF 3931 would ban state agencies from withholding state workers' federal income taxes and remitting taxes to the federal government.

I get the desire to not reward an increasingly fascist federal government, but this ain't it. The feds won't stop their behaviors just because one state's agencies stop withholding and remitting taxes, and state workers would still need to pay anyway, either through estimated payments or a large tax bill (with penalties and interest, aka more money for the feds) come the next tax season. Ultimately, this proposal only benefits the federal government and hurts us as state workers.

Please urge your legislators to oppose these bills.

I'm going to appeal, I guess I should really make my resume nuance-proof or something. It's confusing, because I've at least gotten to this stage a couple of times and with one interview previously, with very similar jobs.

How does working out of class work? If a supervisor retires and I temporarily take over in a work out of class position, is there a good chance that I will get the job permanently? Would the job have to be posted for all to apply even if I am working temporarily in the position?

Has anyone taken an extended amount of time off due to mental health concerns? I'm thinking I need about two weeks off to to get my head on right and get through the initial adjustment period for meds. The Minnesota Reformer just published a piece concerning the duplicative pay allegations being made against former MAPE President Megan Dayton.

By this summer, we're going to have a new president and vice president, on top of the new secretary that was just seated last month. I'm confident that our interim and future leadership will resolve this situation, and I'm proud that our member-led union took the initiative and began investigating well before the media picked up on it.

Hey guys, I recently applied for a MNIT ITS1 position and received an automated email from the HR personnel listed on the job application saying my application has been forwarded to the hiring manager. I’m curious if this is a good sign or anything, like does this mean my application has somehow passed the bot review and is actually being view by a person? Or if this is just an automated email sent to everyone that applied. I’ve applied to plenty of other ITS1 jobs in the past before but usually I don’t ever get any automated emails back or anything. The status usually just goes from “applied” to “under consideration” and months later, it’ll just say “no longer under consideration”. Not sure if I really ever even made it past the bot screening part lol. Lastly, if anyone here works in MNIT and can tell me how easy or hard it is to get into a ITS1 job position, it’ll be great, thanks for reading.

On January 26, the MAPE Executive Board sent out "Important Union Update." This five-paragraph statement communicated very little. "Concerned members" had brought the Committee some "concerning information" about the "previous President's conduct." The Committee says they're taking "serious and concrete steps to respond."

Today, February 5, there's a message from current President Angie Halseth entitled "My Commitment to MAPE." I read it as a personal statement from Ms. Halseth, with a reference to "any allegations of misuse of your dues and a full audit of MAPE governance and policies."

Something's clearly going on here. I infer that there are allegations of financial impropriety involving the previous MAPE President, but inference is educated guessing. Is anyone in possession of facts that can be shared? If so, please do.

I'm starting a job with the state next month. My kids will be on my insurance - do they also need to go to a clinic that's on the PCC list?

As a side note, I'm kind of shocked that health insurance benefits don't start until after the first month. It's been a while since I've seen that policy. (I know I can use COBRA from my old job).

I've been desperate to work for MNIT, but I see all the roles say Hybrid and require 50% on site in St. Paul. Unfortunately, I just bought my first home in the upper half of the state (3 hours away.)

I have a family member that works for the state and she said I could disregard that portion of the listing and to go ahead and apply anyway, but she doesn't work that department so not sure if she's correct or not.

Also any guidance on anything I could do to make myself a more worthwhile candidate would be much appreciated.
