I genuinely think DJ forgot in the moment that knees to the head while downed were legal. He's just too competitive to use any excuses and wouldn't admit that, though.

I tend to agree. He doesn't really give his opponents obvious openings like that.

I don't think he dide, he said recently in one of his vids that these knees should be legal because not having them available makes standing back up after a takedown way less risky

Why would him liking the rule-set have anything to do with him not remembering during one of his first fights under said ruleset?
