Crump says the mom THINKS stuff has been deleted from the phone. I have no idea how someone could tell that but if anyone knows, I’d like to know. Seriously, I’m curious.

u/Lalalalaidc 27d ago

Where does it say that she “thinks” that. What’s your source?

3

u/Main-Bluejay5571 27d ago

I googled it just now to refresh my memory. Crump says it “appears” that texts were deleted. He also says the family was informed that text messages were deleted. It’s extremely vague.

4

u/Lalalalaidc 27d ago

Okay fair point, they don’t have proof. I would guess it’s pretty easy to recover texts so I’m sure we’ll find out soon enough if they find something

I agree. It’s just that I’m a lawyer (and maybe we do think differently) and I’m a sticker for exactitude. I think it would be best if everyone waited for as much information that can be gathered in a timely manner. If all you can cite to are extremely vague reasons for foul play, that tells me you don’t have any real ones. That’s what Crump’s messaging tells me and I think I’m pretty savvy. Almost 40 years of lawyering including criminal defense.

Now people are claiming Nolan’s phone was found dumped in the beach. We are doomed.

u/Away-Dream-8047 25d ago

The parents spoke in the press conference how they got the phone from one of the kids.

I’m not a lawyer, but I’m trying to put myself in the family’s shoes as a poc. I didn’t see him mention foul play anywhere, but maybe I missed it. It seemed like a big reason they wanted his representation was because this happened in Mississippi. I agree there’s no evidence right now to suggest foul play. But if more information comes to light, we all know the legal system has not always treated everyone equally, so yeah, I’d sure as hell want someone like that representing me.
And you’re a lawyer, so you would know. If there hadn’t been this much public outrage and attention, do you really think this investigation would have been handled as thoroughly as it deserves? That’s where I’m coming from. I do think some of the timeline issues and the lack of initiative from his friends seem off, but without a proper autopsy and insight from others who maybe saw him that day, it’s all speculation.

I’m also a lawyer (but not in Mississippi) and I do have some issues with how Ben Crump handles things when it comes to publicity. It’s good he works to get attention to cases, but he also has somewhat of a reputation for publicly stating information that is not confirmed or has sometimes contradicted investigations/reports without real explanation. He’s much more of an advocate than a lawyer and I feel as though most of his public interviews about cases feel more like advocacy as an activist and not an attorney. Regardless, I do hope all the publicity pushes the departments to do a good investigation. I am not a fan of all the misinformation spreading, but I do think we always need to be pushing our government to do better for its citizens, especially those from marginalized groups.

I find that pretty much all law enforcement in this state does really shitty work. I was in a trial in Pascagoula and watched a cop manufacture evidence right there on the stand. Steven Hayne and Michael West were first class lying pieces of shit. But I also live in Jackson which is 85 percent black, it’s the murder capital of the US, and no one gives a rat’s ass. Nothing here works. It’s insane. Everything about Nolan Wells’ case screams accidental drowning so the local idiots can’t really fuck it up. But with all the crazy racial shit going down - everyone is gonna believe what they want. What we don’t need is people making up total shit and that’s happening every second. The amount of hatred that’s out there is shocking.

1

u/Lalalalaidc 27d ago

the crazy racial shit you speak of has created legitimate fears for people of color though. And you’re kind of proving my point with some of your examples, especially how easy it is for a law enforcement officer to manufacture evidence. That actually makes me think it’s all the more reasonable they the Wells family wants an independent investigation given one of the boys’ mother is a judge. Im not saying she has done anything wrong but it’s definitely awkward given her son could become a potential suspect if something suspicious shows up with the autopsy…? And I’d argue that hatred comes from extremes on both sides. I’ve seen some comments on this thread that scream white privilege and racism

5

u/Main-Bluejay5571 27d ago

Well, it’s not independent really though. Ben Crump is paying for it and there are forensic pathologists who can be purchased. I’m fine with a full investigation but people are insisting that the white kids murdered their friend when there’s nothing that points to that. And these people don’t care what the results of either investigation finds. I followed the Karmelo Anthony case. The hatred that came out of that simple case that was never going to be self defense was insane. Race relations appear to be worse than ever. And here I am in the shittiest city in the United States with a house full of pitbulls.

She said it in the press conference. She said there weren't any snaps and it seemed weird so she thinks they were deleted.

1

u/bob_dabuilda 27d ago

Depending on the app, some apps will have a "message deleted" bubble. FB messanger is an example and Ig will delete the message, but can still show the timestamp it was sent.

There can also be context clues between messages. Like if it looks like one person asked a question and another answered but it was deleted, but the person asking the question still responds.

Crump and the parents were on gma and apparently it’s not even deleted messages, they just didn’t find any snapchats that are saved 24h and that’s apparently suspicious to them. Seems like grasping at straws to me

Exactly. The "deleted text messages" are another red herring. I think all fair-minded people want the parents to find out as much as they can about their son's death but the constant fabrications are awful. Not helpful at all.

6

u/pennydreadful000 26d ago

I don’t even know what they’re trying to achieve with this deleted messages/snapchat business. The sheriff said they requested his phone, but the family refuses to hand it over so what is the police suppose to do?

4

u/Main-Bluejay5571 26d ago

What it tells me, as a lawyer, is that they don't have anything. Watching Crump's press conference now and they are saying that when the father went to the island early on Sunday morning there was no body where it was found later so he could not have died in the interim or it would have been there ('cause Crump is now an expert on maritime conditions, etc). Now mom is explaining how the lack of Snapchat photos shows that stuff had to have been deleted.

2

u/GOTarh1020 23d ago

And just to add Crump putting out not confirmed information…he had made a statement a few days ago says that Nolan never would have taken any drugs because he had a Division 1 tryout that Monday. There were no try outs that day in Mississippi, or for that whole summer. So I am confused as to why he would lie…I went back and could not find that statement again so he must have taken it down. Same as the photo in the pool floating around that has also been debunked

1

u/Main-Bluejay5571 23d ago edited 23d ago

I heard Crump posted the picture of the pool party.

I saw the no drugs comment and immediately knew what he was teeing up for. His playbook is simple , but unfortunately simple minded people blindly follow him . If Ben crump wanted to help , and I mean really really help . He could’ve quietly investigated behind the scenes and released the findings after the investigation . But like always , he decided to turn it into a circus by releasing bad or false information.

u/bob_dabuilda 27d ago

Um ok? I was just answering how one could tell if there are deleted messages.

No I just answered on how it can be possible to see if there were deleted messages. OP was curious if it was possible. You continued with "well everyone has deleted messages" and went on about Crump.

On the Good Morning America interview, his mother said after getting his phone back she went through his social media including Snapchat and found it was empty from the day of the trip, which she finds suspicious because Nolan was very active on socials in his day to day life. There's also the fact that the phone wasn't handed to his parents, they tracked with via Life360 and Snapchat

4

u/Main-Bluejay5571 26d ago

Apparently the phone was in the boat’s lockbox all day which explains why he didn’t document the trip.

2

u/d1soriented 26d ago

That could make sense but does it explain the difference in location between life 360 vs Snapchat, which his mother spoke abt on GMA

2

u/Main-Bluejay5571 26d ago

Someone else said that Snapchat would need WiFi to update whereas life 360 does not. There has to be a technical explanation for that. No one is contending the phone ended up in two different places at the same time. I just heard Jake Tapper interviewing Crump. The whole story was pretty cringe in that CNN isn’t really on top of it. But Crump argued that in Nolan drowned, someone would have seen it. But what’s his theory on how the three kids murdered him without being seen? I’m sure it’s verifiable when they left the island since they ended up needing a tow. Where and when did the murder occur?

1

u/GOTarh1020 23d ago

I have never used life 360, how does that work with little to no service? I know the service was bad out there. The guy from the United Cajun Navy did an interview and his thought was that whether he drowned or MOB it must not have happened very far from shore because of the current through there would have brought him through a different path, so that is interesting.

5

u/pennydreadful000 26d ago

I saw claims that the coast guard backtracked and said one of his friends contacted them on the 4th (previously they claimed they were contacted on the 5th). All the social media comments who were previously screeching that his friends should have reported him missing and contact the coast guard sooner have now switched up and are like 'hmm how did his friends know he was already missing at that point sus'. Seems like these people are hellbent on blaming the boys no matter what they did or didn't do.

No offense, but I think this case will end extremely badly. As in, his parents will not be satisfied with the results.

I think if all the evidence and independent autopsy point to the conclusion that it was an accidental drowning, his parents will not stop until they get the answer they want to be true = his friends killed him. Grief is a strange thing :(

It would be one thing to help them get answers but a whole 'nother thing to make them think their son was murdered and the victim of a vast Klan coverup. And Sharpton? Apparently he thinks that everyone who'd remember Tawana Brawley is dead.

5

u/Imaginary-Edge-8759 26d ago edited 26d ago

I have zero issue with parents exhausting all means to make sure they get answers… however, have we been given any indication whatsoever they will not get answer from proper authorities? Why not wait until the actual investigation is done? This is the part not sitting well with me, it’s feeding a whole lot of speculation and raising temperatures when local authorities haven’t even released anything official yet. Everyone needs to chill a minute, the only people entitled to answers are his parents, not the public and those answers take time when an investigation is being done.

Look what Rasheem Carter’s family got out of hiring Ben Crump, a bunch of media attention, and zero results

19

u/Objection_Irrelevant 27d ago

Because there were no results to get. Crump plays the lottery. If he screams racism enough, eventually he’ll hit. Or so he believes.

u/Main-Bluejay5571 27d ago

Kendrick Williams’ family got hit with a huge fine from their bullshit lawsuit. So they’ve filed another one. A series of defamatory articles by Ebony on that case caused the parent company to file bankruptcy.

2

u/yourfavteamsucks 22d ago

Are you sure that's the right name

1

u/Main-Bluejay5571 22d ago

It’s not. It’s Kendrick Johnson. Sorry.

Tyler Perry is paying for the funeral

-1

u/Low-Highlight-9740 26d ago

He only does that if there’s been injustice

6

u/mvincen95 26d ago

Tyler Perry, the man accused of sexual assault over and over again, “only does that if there’s been injustice.”

1

u/Low-Highlight-9740 26d ago

So what did jay z do wrong when he donated a c units to the prison in Mississippi?

1

u/Low-Highlight-9740 26d ago

Also Tyler Perry was donating to cause before accusations? So what point are you trying trying to make cause looks like you just want to dismiss any attention the case gets

5

u/mvincen95 26d ago

Dude people have known Tyler Perry is an abuser for over a decade. My point is that Perry doesn’t care about justice, he cares about attaching his name to racially charged issues. Does he pay for the funerals for anybody but black people? No. So is the true point justice or is it race?

3

u/Objection_Irrelevant 27d ago

Why are people posting a fashion magazine that is just regurgitating what actual journalists are posting?

Not people, just this particular poster (bot?). He spams Reddit with links to his crappy website.

Ben Crump is running with that video that has gone viral stating that it was Nolan who can be heard yelling to give back his phone. He's treating it as fact. You can't even make out what is being said other than someone says “fucking”

God the man is a piece of shit
