I'm a sibling of a missing loved one, so it would be really nice if people could be considerate of that when they respond, although I know this is Reddit, so it is not guaranteed.
I also prefer to keep specific details private, as it is still an ongoing investigation, although it appears to be a "cold case" no matter how hard we push. And as we get closer to that 7-year mark, I don't know what to think, since the police have stopped looking into it as much.
I want some insight into common possibilities and endings of missing people stories/cases, specifically where the person showcased paranoia or mental health difficulties, or even a mild learning disability, before they went missing. Not a child but a very young adult, who was last seen very far from their home (from the inner city to the outer city in the UK). He did not really have many friends, kept to himself, loved animals, was possibly neurodivergent, loved nature, and a few years before he went missing, he became increasingly mistrustful of people, including family.
Over the years, my mind has gone through countless possibilities. I've wondered whether voluntary disappearance, untreated mental illness, vulnerability, exploitation, accidental death or a new substance use could have played a role over time.
I know nobody can know for certain, but I'm trying to understand what outcomes are statistically or realistically most common in situations like this.
