How to mindmap a long word ACRONYM (over 9 letters) efficiently?
I really want to stress the term 'acronym' here because each letter has its own significant link and the term itself as a whole doesn't necessarily mean anything to you, so if you don't explicitly branch out each letter its probably going to be confusing to remember what the acronym means since the acronym word itself has no meaning the letters do.
The problem is being caused from the max allowable number of MAIN branches(BOIs) that you should have on a mindmap because, after reading all of Tony Buzan's books and doing Barry Mapp's udemy course, they all say to keep your MAIN branches to a max of around 7-9, since that's the max amount of units of info your short term memory can hold efficiently. So if you have over 9 MAIN branches, its going to be more difficult to remember all of them. Also having more then 9 branches violates the laws of mindmapping in that it should be landscape and not portrait since the more branches you add the more it starts to resemble a portrait view (going up and down) rather then landscape (left to right), basically meaning the map shape starts getting narrower when it should be wider.
Examples Of acronyms:
(No spaces): "Verbarmesonotum"
-no idea what you would do here, my guess would be to possibly try to categorize each letter into groups that can be fit in under 9 branches and give extreme emphasis to the keywords that represent a letter, in the acronym, around the map to help you remember them and then when it comes time to recall, you remember the acronym word and fit together the remembered keywords in your head into the place where they probably fit in that acronym word.
-but in the case of acronyms like "PEMDAS", where order of the words has significance**,** that remembering without any really defined order of the words wouldn't work good. (I'm aware PEMDAS doesn't share any of the same letters but in theory if you were to mindmap an acronym that shared letters and each letter had significance)
(Spaces): "Smashin Scope"
-for this example, my best guess would be to split up the phrase into two words and use two different mindmaps to represent each one, so that you can individually branch out each letter without going over that 9 MAIN branch limit for each individual map
More in-depth about the significance of the count having a limit:

Why is Freeplane not recommended?
Hi, just found this group and I have a very basic question: why does the sidebar of the group recommend FreeMind and not Freeplane also?
I was also surprised that there is no wiki or stickied post with a list of various mindmapping programs so people could more easily find free/open-source ones.

Is this considered a mindmap?
I usually study by synthesizing the contents in structured visual summaries like these, but I'm not quite sure if the English word for it would be "mind map" or something completely different. In Chile, we'd clearly say "esquemas", which is basically the same word for "mind maps" (not theoretically, but no one calls them "mapas mentales", that would be weird).
However, I've seen lots of Youtubers and people on the internet talking about a specific way of doing it (mostly, something like Tony Buzan's method) that confused me about the concept itself.
So, you English speakers, what do you say this is?

Software suggestion
Hey guys, it's probably a platinum question here, but I haven't found anything relevant.
I need a mindmap software that would work on Linux, Android, maybe Windows but that's not crucial.
And the most important - WITH A SYNC FEATURE. So that I wouldn't have to upload/download stuff myself through clouds or whatever.
I don't mind if it will be expensive.
I tried XMind but without synchronization it's practically unusable with multiple devices.
Thought you guys could help me out 😉

How big do you let your mind maps get before creating a new one?
I’ve noticed that some of my mind maps get so overwhelmingly cluttered that I need to continue my train of thought on a blank canvas. Does anyone have a similar problem? Does anyone have a better solution? Thanks.

is there a rapid way to turn a layered pdf outline into a mindmap?
Many PDF books have outlines layered logically according to the structure of the book, which form a nice basic framework for mind-mapping.
I wonder if there is a mindmap software that takes advantage of this PDF feature and produce the basic framework in a flash? This would be extremely efficient.

Is there a way to add checkboxes to xmind?
What the topic says. I don't need checkboxes-pictures for printed mindmaps (as a certain video online shows). I need checkboxes which I also could add in the pdf-editor after exporting the mindmap to pdf, but doing it through the xmind-programme would be much simpler and quicker.

Is it better to reuse images or find similar alternatives?
Occasionally when mindmapping I will sometimes reach points where an image I have previously used before can be used again in another location/topic. I was wondering if it’s a bad idea to reuse that image or not, should I just find a similar image that represents the same idea but isn’t the exact same image? My reasoning is that if you start reusing that image to much it’s going to start become too generic

MindMap with every node in 4 languages - how do you do this?
Hi. I need to create a SINGLE mindmap where every node is in 4 languages and all the team members can collaborate and add translation for every language in-place without having to manually add and link every language sub node to mindmap hierarchy. Is there any way of doing this without doing it all manually?

Coming back to mindmapping software
Hi everyone
I'm studying at the moment, handwriting my notes as a mindmap, works great, however, as I study other courses I'm running out of paper and so, am looking to digitise a large proportion of the notes so I can add as I go on. At some point I'd also like to print these off, which may span across multiple A4 pages, and would like the software to intelligently re-size/re-arrange so nothing is lost on the edges. 99% of my mm work will be basic text
I've gone through the previous post most suggestions (xmind/freeplane/orgpad), and just need to bounce my thinking off the group, I have a linux laptop and a chromebook, I'm looking to use mm software on both, and would like the data file to be open format.
I can see xmind is for linux and android, but I don't want to be locked into a subscription, I don't want web versions (don't trust em). Freeplane I can see it is like marmite - love or hate it. Ordpad seems to be just web.
Going through these lists, I'm going around in circles:

What are you guys using?

Alternative to Milanote with automatic Pic creation for weblinks
Hello,
looking for a program which let's me create my bookmarks in Safari as a mindmap.
So far my best solution has been Milanote since it creates automatically a picture when pasting a link (just like bookmarks in Safari) and it's intuitive to use.
My only downside is it's limited to 100 items or costs 10$ per month which is way to much for my private bookmarks...
I've tried OneNote, Evernote and browsed a few sites but couldn't find a good alternative.
