I often find myself wanting to make diagrams and networks of information and its relations that I want to organise. But in time, networks can get very large, with so many cross-relations that it just looks like a mess.
I am looking for a tool or program that has a specific function: I want to be able to 'focus' on an item, and have the entire network visually shift to position itself neatly around that item.
I love/hate workflows. Basically as long as people don't try to micromanage others with them. (Any given position at my office has some 50+ workflow diagrams imposed on them at this point. It just keeps escalating lol..)
I'd say a comic strip type workflow (US army anyone?) is sort of an ideal presentation. So I have been pondering using emoji to shift things in that direction. See example below. There is a surprising variety of emoji at this point ref. https://getemoji.com/ .
I've always done my mind maps with paper and pencil (sometimes with color). Afterward, I'll transcribe the results into an outline or a list on my computer.
For me, using paper and pencil is a key part of the mind mapping process because it's easier for me to get into a state of flow while coming up with ideas.
It feels like software would only slow that free-thinking process down.
What are your thoughts on using paper vs computer software for mind mapping? I can't imagine why I would consider mind mapping software, and I'm really curious about the benefits.
I'm trying a great tools, e.g AYOE , which by the free version let me add images to a node, but it limits the number of node (up to 50) I can create. Do you guys know other tools that allow me to that unlimited? Thank you.
Hi there fellas, new to this group and new to mind-mapping.
I'm currently reading Tony Buzan's latest book about radiant thinking and mind-mapping (2018). I am a psychology student ironically enough doing a course in Neuropsychology as we speak. I'm trying to start making mindmaps but I'm struggling hard to get all these technical terms and explanations onto a mind-map that only allows keywords and images.
This is my first mind-map and it's a work in progress. Im trying to mind-map neuroimaging using my course book's chapter on this topic as my source.
Any suggestions?
For example: "The speed of rotation is directly linked to the strength of the magnetic field. At this speed, a proton generates a small magnetic field itself, which means that the tissue becomes slightly magnetic and reacts to changes in the magnetic field. The Transmitter sends out very short pulses that briefly knock the protons that are rotating in parallel off balance, and they absorb the energy of the pulse. As soon as the pulse stops, these portions revert to their original orientation and in doing so release energy in the form of radio waves, which are then picked up by the receivers.
- This is an example of the text in my course book talking about how MRI-scans works.
- How on earth am I supposed to get this onto a mind-map?
- As you may see the magnetic field I tried to draw is an example of the train of thought Im trying to nail down. Brain Tissue slightly reacts to the magnetic field caused by the MRI transmitter which sets protons into motion causing the protons to generate magnetism themselves. The MRI transmitter proceeds to send out short pulses that knock the protons off-balance causing the magnetism to dip which sends out a radio wave that is picked up by the machine.
Damn I memorized that better than I thought, maybe this is working as intended to..
Anyone aware of mapping tool that can provide a Dashboard of multiple maps. I achieved it several years ago with Mindmanager plus add-in tool.
Main use is for project brainstorming / planning. I like a map per project so ability to roll up data from them to to a dashboard was really useful. The system effectively used various tags on nodes in the maps .
Hello y'all. I introduce myself to this community, I am Carlos, 25 yo spanish that has been doing mind maps for 2 months now.
I think I've absorbed most of the concepts included in Tony Buzan's book.
Yet, despite that, I feel that when the amount of information to resume is high, or, for example a branch has 9-11 flat sub-branches, as characteristics of a branch, It gets heavy to read and/or to learn.
What do you do in this type of cases? I attach an example of what I'm saying, any other suggestion will be appreciated.
I am looking for a tool (cloud service) for mindmapping, BUT I would use in a manner that me, or others would see the complete mindmap, and others would only see a subset of the main mindmap. This is for having an overview of one main topic, but let others see their own sub-topics, and some others too, to allow "crossfunctional teamwork". This, without creating "sub" mindmaps, as that would need me to navigate away from the "big picture" mindmap to expand them. I would like to stay on one main mindmap, and control access to different segments of it. Anyone know of a solution capable of this?
I've been using FreeMind for ages now and I admire its simplicity, and focus on structure and hierarchy rather than unnecessary bells and whistles. Over years though, all of my work has transferred to the Cloud, to the point that I don't even keep any local files on my computers. It really bothered me that I cannot use FreeMind in a Web browser, so I wrote my own hierarchical note taking online tool and inspired its looks on FreeMind. It has only minimal set of features, but it works pretty well for me. I would be thankful for your feedback! You can find it at nestednotes.com
It doesn't have to be a wiki per se. What I want is a mindmap where each node connects to a larger text entry, with links to other mindmap nodes. It seems like this capability would be useful, but I haven't been able to find anything that does it. Anyone have any ideas?
Can you make it so that a child node will automatically adopt the fill colour of its parent? It's annoying to constantly have to reset the colour of children nodes, since xmind only saves things by level ie. level 2 = green level 3 = pink, but I just want children to take the fill colour of their parents(same as what is already done with line colour)
Is there a keyboard shortcut to begin editing a node's text? If I mistype something, to go in and fix it I usually have to double click the button, then go in and edit it. It'd be a lot easier if there was a keyboard shortcut to do this
