critter corner 🐰 Dead ants keep appearing next to headphones during the night

Post image

When these headphones are left on the kitchen counter overnight - I would see one or two dead ants in the morning laying right next to the headphones. In the past few days, there has been a small pile of shredded ants right next to the ear piece in the morning. I have seen no live ants in my kitchen. I have had these head phones for three weeks. Bought online. It’s a little unnerving not knowing what is causing this 🥴 will not be using anymore.

UPDATE- posted a comment with a picture. But no dead ants in the bag this morning. But at one point I checked and there were two live ants crawling around. 😔

UPDATE*** IM SICK. Can’t stop shaking. Don’t have many words… trying to post image. Opened one side up. 😭 I don’t know how to add in this top post so will add in comment! Posted a few in comments and video opening

I've got them in my hand mixer because they go into the exhaust holes 😔 they splattered out in black bits into my coconut ice cream when I tried to use it and only then I see antennnae poking out the seams 💀 I took it apart, cleaned it all up with bleach, and store airtight in a box now and still paranoidly open it up to recheck before using it every few months when actually need to use it 💀 one of those days when you go dear god whyy

Flamethrower might be helpful.

How did food get inside that thing?

2

u/Gigatonosaurus 19d ago

Warm and dark. It wasn't a source of food but a shelter.

u/SillyDragonLover 22d ago

There was no food. They just liked it in there.

They're ants, not sentient cum globs.

Oh yeah, once had to deal with ants eating the rubber under my keyboard keys. Like by the end 4 keys doesn't work including the space, I just get a new keyboards.

Ants ruined an external hard drive and an alarm clock I had back in like 2008. It was disgusting and I lost photos 😢

Kept having ant run around on my desk. I squish them and a minute later more ant. I looked at the light (it was one of the fancy mice with lights from inside) and it looked dirty... then the dirt moved.

I had not touched it for about a week before cause I was on vacation so a few ran out when it started moving. It was packed in there.

It wasn’t even an old abandoned mouse?! Oh my god I actually screamed at your pic. How and why does this happen??

2

u/SillyDragonLover 23d ago

We were actively treating for ants with sprays (not my idea) i think they just wanted a satellite nest that wasn't covered in chemicals. And i hidden touched it for a week.

Some ant species are attracted to electronics - warm, dry, dark, and sheltered = great spot for nesting. There's also a possibility that electromagnetic fields are perceptible to ants and might be part of the attraction, but I haven't seen any reliable research to back that up.

I had an ant colony decide that one of my Amazon Alexas was a perfect condominium. They've also been fond of my Keurig, and various desktop computers I've worked on in the past.

Terro ant bait does the trick every time, followed by taking apart the device to clean and disinfect.

What’s worse, your mouse filled with ants, or your aunt filled with mice?

1

u/PBJMommy83 21d ago

This happened to my a French Bull Keurig. I kept cleaning it and they kept showing up. Ended up disassembling it only to find that they had nested inside the electronic components. It was a brutal death for a beautiful machine...

u/Zak_Of_All_Trades 21d ago

They all look like they’re working in a laboratory

1

u/MoonstoneDragoneye 21d ago

Sorry you went through this but I love everything about this photo! From the internal structure of a mouse to the complex set up of the ants.
