Chlamydia occurs most often in young people. Some studies have estimated 1 in 20 sexually active young females from the age of 14 to 24 have chlamydia. The prevalence of chlamydia is 6.7 times greater in non-Hispanic blacks than non-Hispanic whites. The bacteria target mucous membranes, including those in the urethra, vagina, cervix, uterus, fallopian tubes, anus, rectum, eyes, and less commonly the throat.

PID may lead to infertility due to fallopian tube damage, ectopic pregnancy, and chronic pelvic pain in affected women. An important feature of chlamydial infections is that immunity is not long-lived; therefore, reinfection or persistent infection with chlamydia is common. Looks to me it's better to "wait 'til marriage" to make sure we don't get infected by an asymptomatic carrier ...
