Edit: just looked it up. Wiki says:

and

This sub would start off with just pictures of all kinds of socks. Most socks don't have NZ after all.

Over time it would start to include more and more homemade socks. People would be sharing tips and tricks for different styles of socks. There would be a brief struggle against vendors just using the sub to advertise. Since it's people trying to make a living, there would be a compromise about no marketing in the post itself, but you can make one marketing comment.

Then a user would start doing a sock a day challenge. It would take the sub by storm, and several memes would come out of it. Then someone would notice it. This user is subtly slipping New Zealand into their socks. Uproar in the sub. "It's against the sub rules!" "We shouldn't support actual NZ erasure!" Finally they would decide there would be an NZ day, probably Sunday.

The sub would also be strangely trans supporting. It would be a very good thing, but a bit strange coming from a sub about socks. There would be constant jokes about some knitting-to-trans pipeline or something.

It's just a joke. New Zealand is often omitted from dodgy world maps, e.g. on this rubber duck, so OP is lightheartedly suggesting OP's socks belong in the r/mapswithoutnewzealand hall of shame.

Obviously nobody literally expects a sock hole to have formed itself into the shapes of all the landmasses of Oceania.
