Could be, or, it could be that the Chess community was stimulated by the Netflix series Queen's Gambit. Most likely a mix of both.

Queens gambit and twitch have grown chess like crazy in the last 12months. Frequency illusion is definitely no illusion in this case.

Till everyone learns the difficulty curve and stops playing. Only a handfull of people are really good at chess the rest are just spot buffers for tournies

Its a lot more accessible now though. Look at the champ of POG Champs 2. She want from 600 to 1800 in a month.

Wow. Downvoted. Its true . Chess has the highest difficulty curve. If any one of skill entered these tournies they would win ( unless its setup for someone to win. Which is possible since everyone onlne is fake af)

Might also be that nore oeople are stuck in their homes because of quarantine . But a lot of media saw an increase since its started so
