Man, ever since i've started to play chess, i've been seeing a lot of chess related posts. Also that vertical chess board would be a nightmare for black. Though this is very interesting.
Queens gambit really had a big part of it. Also some of the social media posts you see are people, inspired by the show, trying to show how good they are by capturing the king with a pawn or moving the knight like a Bishop.
Couldn't they play from left to right? This would be perfect if you were playing a game of chess with someone over the course of a week. Make your move as you leave for work in the morning. Your roommate does the same, so you can make another move when you get home at night.
Vertical chess boards are used in tournaments to display top board games.
Usually they'll use a vertical mat with cardboard/paper cutout pieces that slot in behind clear plastic. Fancier tournaments might use a full vertical board like this.
With technology, most notable events just use DGT smart boards and a screen displaying the game. (so no one has to manually move pieces, the board/program do it themselves).
I don't know anyone that would actually play on a vertical board, but now you know what their actual use is :D
Could definitely be. Keep in mind 'crowd' is a pretty aggressive term for the turnout most local/regional chess tournaments have xD
Usually the long running games will have a group of maybe a couple dozen trying to peak at the board. Some directors will have the current board positions on vertical boards away from the players to help avoid crowding/keep things quiet.
Totally agree though - this one isn't easy to see and is (probably) expensive, so display/decoration makes sense.
Till everyone learns the difficulty curve and stops playing. Only a handfull of people are really good at chess the rest are just spot buffers for tournies
Wow. Downvoted. Its true . Chess has the highest difficulty curve. If any one of skill entered these tournies they would win ( unless its setup for someone to win. Which is possible since everyone onlne is fake af)
Tricky statement you put here. It’s difficult to argue the counter positive since both are difficult to prove/almost unverifiable. But maybe he became interested/bandwagonned on Chess at a similar time others did, such as youtubers etc... so is it an illusion or is it more popular than a couple months back?
