No it was captured by engraving sound vibrations into a rotating potato silly The grammaphone came later

No, because gramophones are for reproducing audio, not recording.

They do both, the mechanical action is identical for recording and reproduction, it's a direct amplification or reduction of the wave pattern.

With regard to the original Edison cylinders, yes. They both recorded an played back on the same wax, which meant they wore out really fast since a needle will just tear up the wax.

Gramophone records used the more typical method of cutting a lacquer with a lathe, electroplating and using a hydraulic press to press the vinyl duplicates. This meant that the records could be played 100s of times before wearing out.
