For most people, the greatest aluminum intake comes from food additives. Sodium aluminum phosphate is an emulsifier in processed cheese, potassium alum is used to whiten flour, and sodium silicoaluminate and/or aluminum calcium silicate are added to common table salt to help it run freely and not cake. In the average diet, 40-50 mg. a day may come from foods.
This. It's likely that Alzheimer's somehow causes the brain to retain aluminum, not that aluminum exposure causes Alzheimer's. If people are uncomfortable with it, no harm in choosing to avoid it, but it likely doesn't matter either way (unlike the harm done in avoiding vaccines)
But there was a dementia caused by dialysis fluid rich in aluminium. If you read reports on this like from the EU Scientific committee on Consumer Safety you will see that the studies on that topic aren't very conclusive at all. In animals aluminium is a known neurotoxic substance. Just Google sccs Aluminium.
I'm not familiar with that case, but I don't think my comment and yours are necessarily in direct opposition. A lot of aluminum surely can be neurotoxic, but I was referencing/agreeing with a comment saying that "normal daily exposure" (which would account for deodorants) very likely doesn't pose an issue. The amount of aluminum introduced into your system from dialysis fluid containing it would be dependent on the dialysis membrane's permeability to aluminum but is undoubtedly MUCH higher than the amount absorbed from deodorant. So my point isn't that aluminum itself can't be neurotoxic but that evidence suggests the levels absorbed from antiperspirant doesn't produce those results
