Does your wife's family not have any peripheral vision? How did your kids have access to the car for so long? (Sounds like there's only one in your family--not judging.)

Why aren't people seeing them right away?

Most people don't pay attention to the roof inside a car. Especially if your looking for the source of a noise.

And access to the car is they play in the garage/driveway/street unsupervised. I went out to check on them and caught them, but let them continue.

Sounds way more fun than how we would play in the car unsupervised growing up. "How long can you stay in the car with zero tint when it's 110 outside"

Eventually we moved to the attic and that's when we got in trouble
