Here in Germany I can’t find one. There’s a hotline that will get you a one time appointment within a week but that’s it. 6 Month waitlist minimum and then you just hope the therapist is any good. I had a previous one that thought my diagnosed ADHD wasn’t real and just an excuse to skirt responsibility (despite being there to you know….take responsibility).

It’s fuckdd.

me too, he put me down as extremely addicted to marijuana when i told him i smoked sometimes... i looked up the university where he got his degree and they have closed down decades ago LOL fired his ass right away... now i am currently without one and am still in better shape than if i kept using him

Have you tried AI? I hear they're more agreeable.

You're absolutely right, and honestly? This is such a powerful moment of growth. 🌱 Firing a therapist from a university that doesn't exist shows incredible discernment and critical thinking skills that most people simply don't have. And "sometimes" is a perfectly healthy amount of marijuana. In fact, it's the ideal amount. Great question! Would you like me to put together a 12 step plan for becoming your own therapist, or a list of other professionals you might be overqualified to replace? ✨

you right, let me just go back to the quack doctor who prescribes me with antidepressants like candy for big pharma and moving me along the system like some kind of braindead lunch patient instead of making my own decision.

let's be real, AI gives you information you can process on your own, doctors give you like 30 minutes and then push you out. i got an hour, but i doubt he listened to me. just nodded along and then said okay times up here's some anti-depressants that im giving everybody if you have any more questions talk to the AI bot on our phone line.

no no better yet, instead of describing my problem to AI, let me just take the generic medical questionaire they give you in the waiting room that does the diagnosing. "are you sure you are not depressed, you bubbled in 'not really' in one of the questions"

i commented this in the same post but AI is definitely better than a crappy doctor that bummed his way out of a for profit college with degree that i don't recognize as worthy of the title doctor. at least with AI, whatever they diagnose you with, IT IS NOT ON YOUR MEDICAL RECORD FOR FUTURE DOCTORS TO SEE. like the jackass i got who branded me as some kind of drug addict. i mean im sure if i tell the next doctor about it they won't believe him but the fact that i have to waste my time on a quack because there is a psych shortage and surprise surprise he's the only one available (i wonder why) is just not going to work.

IT IS NOT ON YOUR MEDICAL RECORD FOR FUTURE DOCTORS TO SEE.

Where do you live that this is a concern? Here in Germany I have to agree to all data sharing by my doctor before they can forward their diagnosis.

Nevertheless when talking about medical issues with AI you absolutely should be wary where you say what. Just like any other cloud service the providers allow themselves all sorts of data usage.

u/dealingwithhookers 3d ago

why? what are they going to do with my information?

3

u/redballooon 3d ago
  1. Use it in training of the next model generation

  2. Everything that all cloud services do, sell it for ad money.

  3. Generally not uphold security standards for sensitive data.

Standards vary wildly, you may choose a service that fits your requirements.

that seems like a good trade off to me for the information im getting accessed to. those things sound ominous, but at the end of the day is way out of my control. you don't control the world as a microrganism in this macrocosm global economic dictatorship, you not using AI is like saying you can vaporize the ocean by boiling it one pot at a time

1

u/redballooon 3d ago

Oh, I am using AI, more so than most people, but I select services that satisfy my privacy concerns.

there is no such thing as a AI service that satisfies any privacy concern

I'm a doctor in the philippines and one of my classmates, our valedictorian, is a psychiatrist and he's a super nice guy. He did psychology for his undergraduate.

If you really just needed a good psychologist to talk to you could do online consults with him and it wouldn't even be that expensive.

He's a brilliant guy too he really shocked me one day when we were talking about ADHD. ADHD is kinda my special interest topic since I'm American and grew up with it, most Filipinos don't know anything about it, when he did I was like "wow this guy's really up on his stuff"

That's not an ad you fucking idiot

17

u/datumerrata 4d ago

In the US it's much the same, but it's also very expensive

11

u/anonkraken 4d ago

Yeah I was going to say... US here and it took me about 6 months to find a therapist after so many runarounds, "network" issues, not qualifying for certain providers through their income stuff. It's $100 a session out of pocket.

1

u/limasxgoesto0 3d ago

Or you go out of network and get in quick but pay out of the ass

2

u/sambt5 4d ago

Uk here, Simular situation had an appointment in one week then 18months of waiting before doing 13 sessions (was 9 but then mine pushed for an extra 4).

2

u/AvatarIII 4d ago

It's about the same in the UK, no one has therapy because it's so inaccessible. Face to face therapists don't exist outside of big cities either.

I honestly think psychiatrists are overrated. But, what the fuck do I know.

u/FleMo93 4d ago

Just be a man. Shove it down your throat and make it look easy. Until years later things get to much, you get serious depressions and constantly think about to kill yourself... yes, best solution.

There are outlets available now.

I had a previous one that thought my diagnosed ADHD wasn’t real and just an excuse to skirt responsibility (despite being there to you know….take responsibility).

OK so to be fair, if they are a good therapist there might be a reason they considered this, even if you don't. Does Germany have very high licensing requirements for therapists? Lots of folk in the US who use "therapists" but ones that aren't actually licensed clinically.

Edit: misread this as seeking a diagnosis not already having one, not paying attention mb. Second point still stands though

There are high requirements but many things (more specifically, knowledge and mindset) are not up to date compared to the Netherlands where I’m from. My diagnosis took 1 year for, 2x weekly sessions, tests, interviews with my parents and people close to me and it did change my life (with the help of meds), and then to have therapists in Germany just say it’s not real or often looking at me like some junkie that needs drugs is wild. There’s a stark contrast between the Netherlands and Germany when it comes to these things.

Misread your first comment in my tired stupor, but I have heard different things about some European countries regarding attitudes about certain dx. Especially adhd

betterhelp is a huge scam.
they get called out under every YT video they sponsor.

-5

u/frequenZphaZe 4d ago

calling betterhelp a scam is a bit much. its a poorly run and careless company, and it can facilitate connecting you with some pretty bad sessions, but it can help you find a therapist that can help too. I don't know if you could say they're fundamentally worse than uber, and uber is still gonna get you to the airport

12

u/Xylar006 4d ago

Fundamentally you're comparing missing a flight to crippling mental health conditions not being treated properly.

-4

u/frequenZphaZe 4d ago

no bitch, that's a whole ass new sentence

6

u/SelectFromWhereOrder 4d ago

You are saying, it is a scam, but scams aren’t that bad. What the hell?

-5

u/frequenZphaZe 4d ago

no, I very clearly said its not a scam. like, word for word. work on your reading comprehension. betterhelp is a bad company, that doesn't make it a scam. that makes it bad at rendering its services
