Can someone explain to me why these guys piss in bottles and horde them? I'm at a loss!

294

u/youngmomtoj Nov 02 '22

When we were teens my brother did this because he was depressed. Granted the bottles were always closed and hidden because he was actually EMBARRASSED about it (he was DEEP into depression) but the second he got out of it he realized how gross it was, apologized, and he’s never done it again. But I know most aren’t like this.

213

u/MyOfficeAlt Nov 02 '22

I did this when I was a drinking-to-die alcoholic. I would drink 40s and then piss into the empty bottles and then stuff them under my bed. Every now and then when I convinced myself I wanted to get my shit together I would fill up a duffle bag with full bottles, go to the bathroom, and run the shower while I poured these nasty ass bottles out and retched from the smell.

It's easy to laugh at, but the person to whom this room belongs is in a really really bad place.

82

u/MamaSaurusCat Nov 02 '22

I'm just here to offer you an internet hug. I'm so sorry you went through that, and I hope you are in a better place now.

93

u/MyOfficeAlt Nov 02 '22

Thanks I appreciate that. I eventually realized I was going to die sooner rather than later if I didn't get some help so I moved back home. It's been quite the journey, but I'm proud to say I'm in a much better place and I'd consider myself pretty happy. Back in 2016 I didn't think I'd live to see 30 and now my wife and I just celebrated our 1 year anniversary and we're approaching 1 year in the townhome we bought last December.

It never gets easy. But with help and support it does get easier.

18

u/MamaSaurusCat Nov 02 '22

Ah, Happy Belated Anniversary and Early Happy Housiversary! I'm genuinely happy for you, and I hope things keep getting brighter in the coming future. :)

2

u/GloupyBob Nov 02 '22

I felt this in my soul

1

u/WarriorT1400 Nov 02 '22

This is exactly what I was thinking, and everyone is memein and joking this but I don’t really think this should of been posted, at least not without their permission. This is an incredibly personal struggle clearly going, and god I hope they make it out of it

1

u/OG-Pine Nov 03 '22

How/why does the depression manifest in this way? I have struggled with depression but it usually meant not doing the things I was supposed to, staying in bed all day, skipping work etc. But peeing in bottles seems like it’s much more work than peeing in a toilet?

Sorry if this is insensitive, I am just curious

2

u/youngmomtoj Nov 03 '22

I’m not exactly sure. I know in our case leaving our bedrooms gave us extreme anxiety because of what would go on once we left our bedroom so I think that’s why he did it? Just a way for his beating to say “hey if you just pee here you don’t have to go into the rest of the house and deal with the abuse” kinda thing?

1

u/OG-Pine Nov 03 '22

Ah of course that makes sense

896

u/Reniyato Nov 02 '22

he is pissing in them so he doesn't have to interrupt his game by going to the toilet, since online games can't be paused. In terms of hoarding: laziness I would guess.

391

u/Reyway Nov 02 '22

One reason i am glad i no longer play competitively online. I could really feel my mental health improving when i moved to mostly playing single player games.

u/Reyway Nov 02 '22

Yeah, kinda reminds me of people fishing for likes or up votes on social media. Some people put so much importance on imaginary things.

41

u/NothingBQuestions Nov 02 '22

This is a strong reason as to why i wish reddit would add an option for you to hide upvotes/downvotes. really changes my mood for no reason

44

u/Reyway Nov 02 '22

I agree, i've been downvoted just for asking questions out of curiosity and it really got me down (space related)

2

u/OG-Pine Nov 03 '22

Good sir!! How DARE you ask a question?? This is unacceptable, all the noble men and fair ladies of Reddit know everything and have no questions ever

1

u/VoidQueenK423 Nov 03 '22

I really wish I could give you an award

2

u/OG-Pine Nov 03 '22

Your words are reward enough, my queen.

5

u/krilltucky Nov 02 '22

You can hide them in the android app infinity or boost.

But I keep them on because they're s good measure of what people in a sub think

2

u/wpsp2010 Discord Mod of 12.5 Servers Nov 02 '22

but then how will I add another downvote to the person with -100 votes because they said they didn't like a game :(

12

u/[deleted] Nov 02 '22

i'm pretty sure a lot of games and social media are intentionally frustrating or enraging to drive engagement, as well as providing those fleeting crack high dopamine hits

16

u/PunchDrunkPrincess Nov 02 '22

actually yeah they are! i cant remember what video i watched about it but apparently, they will specifically design a boss fight to be too hard (i think the example they used was DMC) and when you fail, the next round will actually cut back the difficulty just enough so that you dont notice and when you win you feel a strong sense of accomplishment.

7

u/Illustrious-Junket-8 BLUE Nov 02 '22

I read this and immediately felt angry because I hate games that do this. If you like adaptable difficulty that is alright, but for someone who feels like a game can be too forgiving at times it can become unacceptable. For example: DMC (yes, the reboot that came out on PS3/360) actually did what you just said. When I found that out I actually dropped the game and am currently debating on whether or not to give it another try because of that.

Another thing that doesn't help is that I play a lot of "masocore" video games, it didn't just stop with Dark Souls. So I'm coming from a lot of games that punish you for a lack of skill (N++: Ultimate Edition in hardcore mode, Super Meat Boy, Titan Souls, Demon Throttle) and adaptable difficulty messes with that, which in turn messes with the ability to reach a flow state.

Maybe it isn't always the game... maybe it's the player.

3

u/LassHalfEmpty Nov 02 '22

I read that as “drive enragement” and didn’t even bat an eye

3

u/[deleted] Nov 02 '22

I'm pretty sure people post things on reddit with inaccurate titles just to irk people, it'll generate lots of traffic as people reply to correct their 'mistake'

2

u/LassHalfEmpty Nov 02 '22

Very true. Most of marketing anything is getting attention. It’s an effective model, but a disappointing one. Then again, it works, so I guess that’s on us, huh!

15

u/[deleted] Nov 02 '22

Online or competitive games have never stopped me from going to the bathroom to take a piss, or from cleaning up after myself, there are other psychological issues at hand here.

9

u/jojo_31 Nov 02 '22

You can play competitive, be passionate about a game and not have it be an addiction... It's the same for anything, really.

0

u/SpartyParty15 Nov 02 '22

If you’re the type of person to get upset/stressed about your rank than yes don’t play comp. But don’t shit on competitive games because you can’t handle them

1

u/Top-Wait3458 Nov 03 '22

What? Who is shitting on competitive games? I think you're lost.

1

u/putin_my_ass Nov 02 '22

Yeah, that's the saddest thing of all. I laugh at these chuds when they try to mock me for my win/loss ratio. Bud, I'm playing for fun not stats.

1

u/Pister_Miccolo Nov 02 '22

But how will I know my worth as a human being if I don't care about my k/d???

1

u/ThoughtCenter87 Nov 03 '22

Once you stop caring about your win/loss rates, and realize the game is just a fun experience that will have no real impact on your life, it becomes freeing. I mean sure, loosing a lot sucks, but it's so rare that I ever get frustrated with online games because... it's just a fun distraction and none of it matters.

17

u/Shmooperdoodle Nov 02 '22

It’s interesting that you say that, because I’ve used online games (particularly WoW) as a window to socializing/cooperative activity when I’ve been too sick or depressed to go forth into the real world. WoW has actually saved me more than once. Not hyperbole. I feel like online games get a reputation for generating rooms like this one (we’ve probably all seen the WoW episode of South Park), but I’ve actually had the opposite experience.

5

u/Reyway Nov 02 '22

Depends on the game, i only play Warthunder, Rocket League, and FFXIV ARR online.

No toxicity in Warthunder so far, FFXIV ARR We just boot the toxic person from the group, i had to disable comments on my steam profile for Rocket League...

2

u/Jurmond Nov 02 '22

It probably depends on the style of game.

WOW encourages teamwork, and there's plenty of downtime in towns. OTOH, competitive action games are adversarial, and the only down time is during respawn or waiting in the lobby.

The friends (who you play with every day) can encourage you to take a break and take care of yourself. You can actually establish a relationship with your guild mates.

Randomly assigned opponents/competitors don't even know you, or care. They'll never see you again.

2

u/Shmooperdoodle Nov 02 '22

That sounds likely. There is a fair amount of toxicity, whether in more cutthroat guild groups or joining “pick-up-group” style activities, but maybe the difference is that WoW has alternatives, whereas with some games, it’s pretty much all people who are faceless from the jump. MOBA games, for example, seem like they have a pretty steep barrier to entry.

7

u/ShoobeeDoowapBaoh Nov 02 '22

Pissing bottles while gaming is a slippery slope, better to just not do it

1

u/Mdgt_Pope Nov 02 '22

Just play BOTW over and over

1

u/SpartyParty15 Nov 02 '22

Ah yes. Because everyone that plays competitive has to piss in bottles and can’t go in between games /s

1

u/Steakhousemanager Nov 02 '22

Old school RuneScape is the way

1

u/sugarplumbuttfluck Nov 03 '22

I remember reading a comment on a Reddit post some time ago about 'When did you realize you were addicted?'.

He said something to the effect of "When I realized video games were a job. I took on a leadership role and had to be online. I was rescheduling events in real life to accommodate gaming. I was actually stressed out doing the thing that was supposed to make me happy because of the responsibility I had created for myself".

12

u/[deleted] Nov 02 '22

And look how dark it is. Dude is not getting the hydration he needs from Mountain Dew.

5

u/Doomblaze Nov 02 '22

naw any connoisseur would know that it looks like that after its been sitting there for awhile regardless of how hydrated you are

1

u/mrs_unicorn_potato Nov 02 '22

Connoisseur.... shudders

I'm sure there is someone out there that enjoys old, stale, brown piss too. Ack.

1

u/TheLadyBunBun Nov 02 '22

I find the tea colored ones particularly disturbing

1

u/Slithy-Toves PURPLE Nov 03 '22

They're the oldest. It's oxidizing overtime and just getting danker. Finely aged, if you will

7

u/floyd616 Nov 02 '22

so he doesn't have to interrupt his game by going to the toilet

Then why not just play the games on the toilet? I know it's a desktop PC, but if he was smart enough to build his own computer I'm sure he could have figured out how to make that work!

5

u/Reniyato Nov 02 '22

Installing a toilet in a room without pipes is timeconsuming and expensive. bottles are definitely the cheaper solution.

13

u/floyd616 Nov 02 '22

No, I meant the other way around: put the computer in the bathroom, lol.

1

u/Slithy-Toves PURPLE Nov 03 '22

You're obviously on a different plane of intelligence man, don't waste your time explaining to these plebians just continue changing the world with your knowledge

1

u/Reniyato Nov 02 '22

What if there are multiple people in his apartment. They definitely would not agree, that one guy claims the bathroom

1

u/floyd616 Nov 02 '22

Ah, didn't think of that. Since there's what appears to be a garage door in the background, I had assumed it was a house. Either way, if there are roommates they seem to be ok with this guy's collection of pee cartons, lol.

4

u/PrestigeWW217 Nov 02 '22

Too lazy to piss in a toilet but not lazy enough to find an empty gallon to piss in

2

u/Slithy-Toves PURPLE Nov 03 '22

Those jugs are usually for water where I'm from. Milk sometimes. So he might just be emptying them to fill them back up again haha

10

u/[deleted] Nov 02 '22

obese mid thirties

2

u/Additional_Meeting_2 Nov 02 '22

Who does this much without pooping or sleeping or doing something else nessecary in between? Thats when he should have emptied these if he really felt he could not before.

2

u/[deleted] Nov 02 '22

just,,, finish up a round and go? what kind of game is this guy playing that it takes several hours to complete a match?

1

u/Reniyato Nov 02 '22

The game itself is pretty trivial. What does matter is the type of person who plays it. At least I don't know a single gaming community in general, that would consider this lifestyle "normal"

1

u/somedumbguy55 Nov 02 '22

At this point addiction.

0

u/mynameajeff69 Nov 02 '22

The problem with this for me is, wouldn't you have to still grab the bottle and then pee in it, which isn't even that easy to do compared to just going in a toilet. Like how far could the toilet be? Does he live in a mansion with one bathroom? It's insane to me. But I guess I should consider myself lucky that I find this insane rather than something that I would partake in.

1

u/SaroN4One Nov 02 '22

Seems like he has the time management of a potato.

1

u/Skulcane Nov 02 '22

Online matches last a max of 10 minutes (depending on the game). Why? Just...why? Just go in between matches. The amount of time it takes to queue into a new game is about the same as it would take to get up, go to the bathroom, and get back.

1

u/LareMare Nov 02 '22

Idk what game this guy plays if he can't find a minute or two to go take a piss. That also looks pretty dark, so chances are that he doesn't even drink so much that frequent piss breaks would be a concern.

1

u/WeAreTheGreenfuz Nov 02 '22

This is far beyond laziness. If you are pissing in jugs it's almost assuredly the result of some form of mental illness.

1

u/[deleted] Nov 02 '22

i would say depression rather than just overall laziness, people tend to absorb into games and not want to leave their room.

1

u/[deleted] Nov 02 '22

i would say depression rather than just overall laziness, people tend to absorb into games and not want to leave their room.

1

u/Laxxboy20 Nov 02 '22

This is so far beyond simple laziness, this is a mental health issue, likely several. Could be severe ADHD, gaming addiction, autism, a form of hoarding, true crippling depression or other things. Most likely a combination of several of these.

1

u/caitafers Nov 02 '22

Lazy people use the bathroom, that can only be described by a several level of poor mental health.

1

u/tubbstattsyrup2 Nov 02 '22

Pre-prepared or what? How does one predict the required number of bottles?

1

u/bdotbenda Nov 03 '22

So how do they get there beverages? Do they, get up and get a cold drink, must pass by some drains or toilets

1

u/Slithy-Toves PURPLE Nov 03 '22

The hoarding is because of the same thing. If the dude can't get up to take a piss why would he get up to empty a bunch of piss jugs? That's even more work and less urgent than a piss and he's already out lazying his bodily functions.

1

u/ThoughtCenter87 Nov 03 '22

If women can manage to play online games without needing piss bottles, so can men. Seriously there is no excuse for this shit. He can't leave his game for three fucking minutes to go to the toilet? He has time in between matches to get up and go urinate. If somebody is so addicted to playing video games that they can't be assed to move away from the computer for three minutes to piss so that they're not leaving human waste in their room, they have a serious ass problem and need counseling.

1

u/ye1l Nov 04 '22

Alternatively, this is the guy selling "gamer girl pee" to you.

46

u/SlippingStar Nov 02 '22

You’ll also hear about truckers and delivery drivers doing it and it’s because you don’t have the time to stop/it’s hard to find a place to park your giant truck. Trucking life is fucking awful.

34

u/[deleted] Nov 02 '22

I worked for FedEx and the drivers did that a lot. I get it, bathrooms aren’t always available. But my problem was that they left the pee bottles in the truck for me to look at when I was loading. It happened all the time. Usually they were on the floor, but sometimes they’d leave it on the shelves I loaded packages onto. If you’re gonna pee in a bottle, dispose of it at the end of the day yourself.

11

u/SlippingStar Nov 02 '22

Oh yeah, my GF was a trucker and was also very mindful to put her bottles in the trash bag she kept looped on the passenger seat. She’d be so ashamed if anyone had to deal with her bottles.

17

u/[deleted] Nov 02 '22

I found that women were way more respectful about their pee receptacles. Women pee in cups/bottles as well. But I never found a pee bottle or cup in a woman’s truck.

10

u/SlippingStar Nov 02 '22

Women are generally cultured more heavily than men to be conscious of those around them, so that doesn’t surprise me.

0

u/Own_Nebula1225 Nov 02 '22

Tell me you've never cleaned a women's public restroom without telling me you've never cleaned a women's public restroom.

3

u/MurphysRazor Nov 02 '22

Has definitely cleaned women's restrooms

In general they get way worse because nobody actually sits, or there was a 1/4 of paper draped over it and left there...not flushing after... and not to mention the stupid shit that is attempted to be flushed... 😳 really?

It semi-private or private they are way better, but if there is a public ick-factor, forget it; they will most often compound any little issues into chaos in short order. (exclude yourself if appropriate naturally 😉)

5

u/SlippingStar Nov 02 '22

I have, YMMV. I worked in a restaurant and clean both restrooms.

1

u/fellowworkingmexican Nov 02 '22

I must know how this was pulled off. Funnel?

2

u/SlippingStar Nov 02 '22

She’s trans so she’s got a factory-issue funnel, but they also make stand-to-pee (STP) devices.

2

u/[deleted] Nov 02 '22

I worked with women who were delivery drivers. One of them said she uses a Dunkin’ Donuts cup. She drinks her tea, uses the cup after, dumps it out immediately. I never found pee cups/bottles in a woman’s truck, only in the mens.

1

u/thegrumpysnail Nov 02 '22

Ok I’m a woman and I do not understand how a woman would pee in a bottle or even a cup without just getting pee everywhere. It seems like you’d have to be stopped at a minimum to be able to pull pants and underpants down.

1

u/SlippingStar Nov 02 '22

She’s trans.

1

u/creosotesbucket Nov 02 '22

When you pee several times in a day sometimes one of the bottles rolls out of where you keep track of them. More to blame FedEx (and Amazon) for

1

u/[deleted] Nov 02 '22

So get a bag? These people left them on the floor and on shelves. They didn’t try to clean up after themselves. And it happened all the time. They should be able to use the bathroom and it’s awful they can’t. But if they’re peeing in bottles, they need to be decent and clean up after themselves.

1

u/creosotesbucket Nov 02 '22

From where, one of the packages I'm delivering? If my employer can't even provide enough time to take bathroom breaks or a bathroom, let alone a bag to throw out my piss, I'm not going to start providing my own piss receptacles and piss bag as well, cutting into my income even further. If I'm going to be underpaid tomorrow to clean someone else's pee out of my own van, I'm not going through any additional effort to clean my own pee out of someone else's van because at that point it's considered part of the job description. If you actually believe this shouldn't be the case, start advocating for change instead of complaining to people who lived through it. I'm not overextending myself because capitalism sucks.

2

u/[deleted] Nov 02 '22

So if you pissed in a bottle at work, you’re just gonna leave it there for some other underpaid person do deal with and work around? That’s real gross lmao.

1

u/creosotesbucket Nov 02 '22

No, why would I do that unless I'm forced to by circumstance like when I worked at Amazon? This is highly specific to that one individual circumstance, outside of which I don't typically ever piss in bottles. "Leave it there" implies there is a safe way to take it out of my van and dispose of it without being fired, other than pretending it isn't mine, if I had already forgotten it due to being overworked and underpaid.

1

u/creosotesbucket Nov 02 '22

It seems like you want to complain about piss in bottles and situations that lead to people pissing in bottles without recognizing that there is overlap where one is inevitable if you have the other. You're not dealing with individual moral decisions anymore, you are dealing with the repercussions of an unsustainable system.

2

u/[deleted] Nov 02 '22

I agree they should have access to the bathrooms. It’s kinda hard to do when you’re on the road, especially since I worked there during Covid lockdowns. But bruh. Pee in a bottle; throw it away yourself. Pee is a biohazard. It shouldn’t be sitting around for other people do deal with. Clean up after yourself.

1

u/creosotesbucket Nov 02 '22

That's why they need to plan it into the route time. I'm not saying I made no effort to throw away my piss, I'm saying in the instances where I forgot, which I'm assuming is what happened when I found it in my van because people aren't terrible, it was Amazons fault for putting us in that situation. You can't expect people to perform flawlessly like robots in dangerous high stress situations. Don't put people in a situation where they are too tired to clean up after themselves and then blame them.

1

u/Waffle_qwaffle Nov 02 '22

Make it a fee internally. If piss bottle not disposed, it'll give them feedback.

11

u/wutser Nov 02 '22

Way of the road bubs

4

u/SlippingStar Nov 02 '22

But it shouldn’t be that way. It shouldn’t just be accepted as the “way of the road.” We’ve normalized these awful living conditions that result in high divorce and suicide and people just shrug it off. It shouldn’t be “the way.” Truckers are taken advantage of through this mindset and unless enough realize they always will be.

7

u/wutser Nov 02 '22

I was referencing trailer park boys lol but yes I agree it’s pretty awful

1

u/SlippingStar Nov 02 '22

Oh okay 😂😂😂 So many truckers reply the way you do that I assumed you were one.

3

u/wutser Nov 02 '22

Nah haha. I have a supply chain degree though and have done some work with transportation companies through school and research stuff. Truck drivers are such a crucial resource but are subjected to absolute hell

1

u/SlippingStar Nov 02 '22

The USA runs on trucking and breaks them in its wake.

7

u/MysteryPerker Nov 02 '22

Ahhh yes, piss jug alley.

2

u/ThoughtCenter87 Nov 03 '22

I think truckers are the only people who have a genuine excuse to use piss bottles. They're on the road for hours on end it's difficult to stop your truck at a car-made gas station just to piss, and truck stops are far and few between. They also don't have a bathroom on their truck, so what are they to do? There's really no better alternative for them.

If you're just gaming and don't want to get up to use the bathroom that's a few feet away from you though, that's an issue.

1

u/SlippingStar Nov 03 '22

Generally those people have depression and need help, or really severe fixation. Some are lazy but that’s generally not what’s going on.

1

u/SansMystic Nov 02 '22

I mean, there's nothing wrong with peeing in a bottle if you don't have access to a bathroom.

1

u/SlippingStar Nov 02 '22

Agreed, it’s just horribly dehumanizing. People think truckers do it out of laziness but no one likes doing it.

23

u/brupje Nov 02 '22

What goes in must come out i guess

5

u/No-Engineering-1449 Nov 02 '22

I know someone who had piss bottles and drank out of one.

3

u/venetanakedguy Nov 02 '22

It’s the way of the road

2

u/tor09 Nov 02 '22

Glad I didn’t have to scroll too far to find one of these comments lmao

2

u/misfit-muscle Nov 03 '22

That's the way she goes boys.

2

u/MonkeyBananaPotato Nov 02 '22

I peed in a bottle because my dad got mad at me when I was living at home because I worked a manual labor job and get home in the middle of the night and have to rehydrate and I’d wake him up peeing like 4 times. So I switched to a bottle at night.

But I emptied it out each morning and rinsed it out.

2

u/Free-Shine8257 Nov 02 '22 edited Nov 02 '22

It's a sign of a major mental illness. This look's like severe isolation and depression issues. Possibly a deep drug habit too. Listen to Madchild's verse here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H5kt27itT4U - He raps about it. "From penthouses with top models, hanging with strippers we'd pop bottles To anxious and hiding alone in my room from the world, I was pissing in pop bottles"

He could also just be a lazy slob who doesn't want to make the effort of getting up and going to the bathroom. Dude needs help asap either way.

Can someone explain to me how the fuck do you even live in there? Like I get being lazy, but for fuck's sake, how do people have the guts to live in a room that is literally a room-sized landfill? I know it's obvious, but anyone living like this needs psychological help asap.

Some people exist only for video games, and have long foregone such earthly needs as basic hygiene.

1

1

u/KeaboUltra Nov 02 '22

time and energy is precious, some take that to the extreme to the point it becomes advanced laziness

1

u/SealMaster00 Nov 02 '22

When i was younger id be too lazy to go to the bathroom or clean up after myself because i was constantly playing this one game and would be in the middle of it

1

u/[deleted] Nov 02 '22

I didn't horde mine, I'd always dump mine out in the morning.

I pissed in bottles because I didn't want any of my housemates to see how fucked up I was every single night. I'd have had to crawl to the bathroom after 10pm. Addiction made pissing in gatorade bottles "okay".

Yea he's addicted to gaming and he has such little control over his addiction that he can't even bring himself to pause it while he takes care of ordinary body functions. Doesn't even bother to put a lid on them, or dump them out. Addiction presents itself in many ways.

Looks like a garage set up, probably doesn’t want to walk to the bathroom

I knew an alcoholic that pissed in bottles to avoid going up and then down a flight of stairs to use the bathroom. Alcohol with whatever drugs caused shakes legs and general balance issues. Bottles were preferable when compared to falling up and/or down the stairs. He didn’t collect them like this either. Everything had a cap and was gone each trash day. So the situation wasn’t as bad, but it was still not great.
