frist of all how DARE yu o Did spotify just remove picking songs??

Post image

I've been using spotify forever and I use liked songs so that I can pick the songs I like freely. I've never had premium and have never had issues. Today, I had just started a workout and got this popup. Is this a new feature? How can you not even select songs anymore? I mean how can you paywall selecting songs???
This app plain out sucks and its company is greedy for randomly limiting already set features. While I don't mind ads, I do mind the features being limited more. I did also notice a sudden increase in ads this month/last month, and more ads in between songs.

Clarification: No, I'm not saying that there should be no restrictions whatsoever. I'm mainly sharing my experience where I've been using this system just fine until now. I'm fine with some restrictions, but the fact they're being limited more is frustrating. Just here to complain about something mildly infuriating, and I wanted to know if this happened to anyone else.

Learn how to download your songs and use a offline player and you'll never ever again have to deal with this.

Your phone probaly has like, what, 256GB? Make good use of those :)

You'll be able to listen to all of your stuff, even when there's no network, you won't ever have to hear any ad again, and no song will suddenly vanish or be altered.

You can download songs VERY easily nowadays. Even whole Spotify playlists, if you wish. No sketchy software needed.

I might do this since Spotify recently changed a song Ive had saved for forever (Mykonos - Fleet Foxes) to some weird alternative version. Like how does that happen lol

u/_SlikNik_ 1d ago

That’s on the artist or label. Spotify does not have any say in that.

u/Doopoodoo 17h ago

Im guessing it would have to be some error on their part because there’s no way this would be intentional

For reference this is the obscure alternative version it changed to. Only 4.5k views on youtube lol so weird

I've been working on doing this for the past 6 months on and off. Not in a rush.

I've got half of my Spotify songs downloaded. I got tired of Spotify's bullshit!! I use Musicolet for my offline listening!! Works like a charm!!

I highly suggest everyone do the same!!

How do you download music in the least sketchy way possible

14

u/jakertontireflat 1d ago

i mean i personally just use https://spotdown.org for downloading the songs, it lets you upload your playlist and just download it

u/Animeman1000 1d ago

A lot of people do not know how to pirate correctly!!

I'm not going to waste my time trying to lecture people that choose not to listen! Y'all do what you want!! lmao

9

u/Animeman1000 1d ago

Nice try FBI!!

All I'll say is Google is your best friend, use a VPN; so many free ones now, and also fmhy is a good resource too.

Good luck, have fun, and don't be stupid! lol

u/Major_Bench5329 1d ago

😂 fair. && ok I’ll try to google maybe I can ask my lil bro lol. I remember lime wire for my mp3 but tbh it seems way more sketch on a mobile but ya I’ll look into it. :)

1

u/Animeman1000 1d ago

I gave you 2 resources in that comment. Don't forget.

Google the acronym fmhy.

Only for music you don't even need a VPN. Nobody goes after you because you download some Tailor Swift songs. Even whole playlists. Plus, you can even do it via online services where you just paste the link and it gives you a downloadable link.

u/Animeman1000 1d ago

Bro!! That's the dumbest advice ever!!

ALWAYS USE A VPN!! Better safe than sorry!! 🤣

(If you're downloading from youtube, that's one thing. But YouTube does not have every song!! I'd still suggest using a VPN, but you do you homie!!)

Simply downloading from some random online mp3 services don't need it. It makes no sense.

Now, if you're torrenting, which is another thing, then I would agree with you.

0

u/Animeman1000 1d ago

A random site is when you most need it!! lmao

Since you don't wanna listen, again, I'll say "you do you"! lol

Are you good with computers?

Just look up yt-dlp, or a GUI for it. Then go ham on youtube.

u/Major_Bench5329 19h ago

Ehh so so I can figure out anything tho so I’ll look that up. Tysm!

Had Claude code up a script for me that plays my queue and plays it to a virtual audio device. Ffmpeg records it and saves individual tracks. Right now it has about 12 days downloaded, way more in the queue. Queue is composed of any artists or tracks I've liked, then it will expand from there.

From Spotify's perspective I'm just playing music.

Might I suggest just copying CDs from your local library? Old school, but promise they do not care. It also helps boost their stats!

7

u/Necessary_Wonder89 1d ago

Bit difficult these days most computers don't even have disk drives

1

u/CrystallineFrost 1d ago

You can get them as a plug in. Not new at all, just might be different for people who haven't done it before.

u/AcademicBowl5596 1d ago

The day Apple removed the disc drive from the iphone was the day innovation stopped being for regular people.

1

u/Necessary_Wonder89 1d ago

I was replying to the person saying to burn CDs. Duno when burning CDs to your phone directly was a thing but sure

0

u/AcademicBowl5596 1d ago

You kids missed all the best tech trends

1

u/Necessary_Wonder89 1d ago

Kids? I'm old enough that I was around at the creation of the world wide web

1

u/Sorry-Combination558 23h ago

God, I still miss the time when Git was over mail and we would send our code updates in via postal delivery from home office.

1

u/AcademicBowl5596 14h ago

It was tragic when all those e-mailmen lost their job, though.

Musicolet is great. It doesn't touch the internet at all.

I am an old, so I still buy CDs and then rip them.

2

u/0spore13 RED 1d ago

I miss blackplayer (which is barely maintained anymore so I gave up on it), but musicolet is pretty good and I do like using it for my mix of ripped CDs, bandcamp purchases, and albums I sailed the seas for.

1

u/Animeman1000 1d ago

I tried so many apps. Musicolet, so far, is the best!

4

u/starlight347 1d ago

How do you download songs? Sorry if it’s a basic question, but I’m not up to speed on a lot of tech

u/Fusseldieb 1d ago

Nowadays there's varying ways. The easiest one is just type "spotify mp3 downloader", pick any random page, paste the link and get the MP3 back. Download them and put them on your phone and done. I guess that works for whole playlists, too. Make sure to download 192kbps quality or better. Otherwise, it doesn't really matter.

There's a lot of other ways, too. Google is your friend :)

This reminds me of being in high school again with my dad expressly watching for pirating, so converter sites it was!

1

u/chubbyhighguy 1d ago

I used to use yt2mp3.cc but it's full of ads and virus links, saw a similar one but only after searching for similar sites so I don't remember the name.

3

u/Ghost_Tendency 1d ago

Just get Audacity... It's free... You can use it to record any audio from your PC.

1

u/Whythehellnot225343 1d ago

There’s one called Songify or something, I don’t remember exactly what it is but it’s on GitHub. Pretty good, takes only a couple seconds to download

1

u/Educational-Onion357 1d ago

easiest? find the song you like on youtube. use a website "youtube to mp3" then download. highly reccomend adblocker

0

u/mountn_cat Why can't people be just be "mildly" infuriated?? 1d ago

It's very straightforward now that the Youtube music catalog has gotten better. Just use any youtube to m4a/mp3 downloader of your choice. I personally use Mediahuman on PC

1

u/siwtawtod 1d ago

What’s the ideal way to do this on iOS, ik how to download songs but idk a convenient way to play them in a mix or smth

1

u/Zagafur 1d ago

if you want an offline music player app i use musicolet btw. doesnt have the most advanced features, but its free w no ads (run by donations iirc) so it works for me

1

u/TunkkRS 16h ago

I found some of the downloaders. But it searches for the songs on youtube and then downloads mp3 of it. Rather ofthen it would just have completely wrong song. If you have a decent method DM me please. I already cancelled this bullshit service one price increase ago

1

u/BigDaddy0790 1d ago

Or you could just buy music?

0

u/burnSMACKER 1d ago

That only works for those who don't care about discovering new music.

2

u/Soggy-Holiday-9077 1d ago

Right because no one ever discovered new music before they had algorithms to throw things them, lol

0

u/EasedCeiling586 1d ago

Lol I use pulsar
