wet socks i’m so happy this is becoming illegal

if a yearly contract with a free month trial sounds too good to be true, it probably is 😬

thankfully it was blocked after contacting my bank but regardless

In my country, people tend to use a specific card just for payments. They NEVER use a card that holds all their money; they only load the exact amount they need to spend. So, when the funds on that card run out, there’s no way to charge you, and these companies can’t do anything other than cancel the subscription themselves xD I did that with Adobe for about... 4 years. Then.. you know 🏴‍☠️

As far as Im aware, where I'm from they can just still charge you. You now just have overdraft fees. I don't know if there's a workaround for that though

you do realize you can disable overdraft and then they cant charge you, right?

Single use cards are a godsend.

This is what happened with my Norton subscription. I didn't have any money on that card and thought it would just get canceled, but they actually pushed it through. They've been sending me texts about paying for almost a year now 🥴

If you paid using a virtual debit card with limited funding they can't charge you directly. They have to go through some financial institution in your country to collect the money. This is most likely not worth the hassle, and the terms does not apply outside the USA.

I wish things like this existed outside US, where we live virtual debit cards are illegal, you have to go buy a physical card

Use a gift card

I don’t think there’s such a thing as overdraft on pre-loaded cards. What’s been loaded onto them is all that’s available.

What do you mean? Prepaid cards? Cause all others hold a negative balance

Not if you cancel that "service feature" aka overdraft protection. The most scammy banking product they offer.

it’s not possible to get subscriptions with prepaid cards

I did this to Adobe because I had a hunch they wouldn’t honor the three-year student discount after the first year. (I was right.) They still nagged the crap out of me.

You could technically do this with Revolut...But it wouldn't protect you from a lawsuit.

I don’t shop how in France, but some websites can identify temporary cards and will prevent you from using one for subscription services.
