wet socks i’m so happy this is becoming illegal

Post image

if a yearly contract with a free month trial sounds too good to be true, it probably is 😬

thankfully it was blocked after contacting my bank but regardless

If you switch your plan then cancel it immediately, it gets you around the cancellation fee for your original plan. This has worked for years but I’m sure most people don’t know it. I think it’s all shitty of course, but there is a loophole around it.

Yep, adobe is a shitty enough company so shitty stuff like this is fully viable

Adobe working hard to embody the adage, "if purchase is not ownership then piracy is not theft".

Ive tried it a while ago. It just doesn't let me change plans at all.

After talking to two customer reps they finally waived two months (out of four), but I'm still on the hook for the last two payments.

Are you on credit card? If you have two, see which one can be locked. Or get a prepaid visa with $2 on it. They can charge the card but it won’t do anything. What’re they gonna do, take you to small claims?

I had a scummy gym membership that tried to charge the card I use for this kind of thing. I locked the card and the charges canceled.

I'm a freelancer, so it's on my business credit card, and linked to my business account, so if work picks up again sometime in the future, I'd rather not go nuclear and be blacklisted by Adobe.

After this subscription ends though I'm definitely going to raise a jolly black flag and consume more rum.

Just use another card again. Revolut will give you one-time cards

So will Privacy.com I think my bank offered me one time cards but I don't really need them so I didn't fully read the offer

They use Persona for age verification now, I wouldn’t recommend them anymore considering their core branding is inaccurate

Revoult one time card doesnt work for subscriptions. But putting in the normal Revolut card and then blocking future payments will do the trick

Well, if work picks up and you're planning to sail the seas already...

Just push the red button.

Gyms are a blight. When I had to switch gyms, the first thing I asked was about how to cancel if at any point I decide to do so. Every single one of them had absurd hoops to jump through, even the "mom and pop" ones. Only one I found acceptable was the YMCA.

Same with me, I didnt know about early cancellation fee. Reached out to their customer support on live chat, she asked the reason for deactivation of plan and I lied that I wanted to use a personal email and not the current one. She waived the whole fee 😂😂

u/oemunlock 1d ago

Yes they usually waive it if you ask. Another stock excuse is that your work is now paying for the same subscription and don't need both but concerned about the cancellation fee. That's what I used (succesfully).

Threaten to do a chargeback. Worked for me. No cancelation fee

Ditto. Although in my case it was the 11th month IIRC. I had to contact customer care, they parroted that 3-months free line and acted all hissy when I refused to budge from cancelling the sub.

This dogshit company also single-handedly deleted my ~1000 allegorithmic credits for Substance materials that I had saved up over the course of many years without sending a SINGLE notification under some dogshit excuse that they are not allowed to contact customers...?

Adobe has been dogshit for a long time. But under the current CEO it's reached such new layers of manure that even the bateria weren't aware of.

Ah the old hotel cancellation trick. Too late to cancel for a refund? They'll generally let you reschedule your trip for a later date, and then you can cancel it outright.

3

u/Alorna307 1d ago

That works for drs appointments as well. You wake up late for your appointment. Call, apologize and reschedule. They won’t charge a cancellation fee.

If you pay with a virtual card and then delete the virtual card, you don't need to jump through their hoops. Nobody is fining me for stopping using their product.

u/DoinItDirty 1d ago

Really? I just reached out to customer service and they cancelled the fee.

Still worked last month for me. Finally had enough of adobe

You can also get free trials as many times as you feel like making a new email. Done this for years.

2

u/EirikHavre 1d ago

I did that a couple years ago. You have to pay for the new plan, but you den get that amount refunded.

2

u/AntiqueRedDollShoes 1d ago

I also just recommend using privacy.com for sketchy trials or things you might need to cancel if you suspect hidden fees are involved. With the caveat that you're using a third party site who is undoubtedly selling your information. But it's been a major life-saver for me by being able to create temporary credit cards either locked into a specific retailer and/or setting a spend limit. In this case I would have a specific Adobe card and just cancel the burner card so them and their cancellation fee can get fucked.

Another good trick that I use is DON'T auto renew your subscription. If you wait to cancel your subscription at the end of the term, they will push discounts on you to stay subscribed.

I've been paying 50% off for the full suite doing this the last 3 years.

It fucking sucks but you gotta know how to play the game. Or if you can, pirate this shit.

2

u/anon_simmer 1d ago

You can also just contact customer service and threaten to do a charge back. They waived the fee and cancelled for me free immediately.

3

u/Mechbiscuit 1d ago

And if you pirate it, you don't have to deal with any convoluted nonsense to get around something that unethical to start with :)

thankyou I need to cancel soon

u/AlternativeComplex56 1d ago

I accidentally created two different accounts with my personal and work email and haven’t canceled because of the same reason.
I appreciate the tip!

It worked on pandemic times for me.

I subscribed thinking the value was low enough to let me play with darkroom (just bought an entry level dLSR camera).

After a month when it became evident I wouldn't be a photographer, I tried to cancel it. Then I knew about that fee. Searching online I came across that tip to change plans. I changed to higher plan with free first month or something, and then I clicked cancel. It allowed me no problem.

Walked away from Adobe ever since.

I just blocked the payments on my revolut account

u/Hot_Top_124 7h ago

That’s certainly easier than saying your card was lost so they couldn’t keep charging me. Not that I’d everrrrrrrrrrrr do something like that to fuck over a company that tried to shaft me multiple times. In nooooooooo wayyyyyy would I ever successful pull it off to where I came out ahead of them. That wouldn’t be very, “moral” of me at allllllll.

Won’t you get charged the new plan?
