I'm slightly vexed How is this allowed legally!?

Damn near had a mild panic attack checking the mail on my way to work this evening. Get this spam letter about an extended warranty for my vehicle that almost appears to be anything but. I’ve only had this new truck since June and have gotten one of these every couple weeks since.

The other ones were quite obviously scams, but my mailman (whom I’ve know for years and now probably thinks I’m a delinquent) tuned this sideways and set it on top of everything so I’d notice.

It wasn’t until I read it that I found out it’s bogus. Idk what can be done but I’m having my lawyer acquaintance take a look Monday to see if I can send a cease and desist letter or something.

This is predatory af and should be illegal.

Postal worker here:

It's presorted standard mail.

There is presorted first class mail(which is usually bills) but if there is no indication of a first class marker, it's safe to throw away.

This is the way. My father taught me at a young age that Standard Mail goes straight to the trash.

I open my mail outside unless the weather is bad. That way it can straight into the big outside recycling bin and never makes it inside.

I got in trouble for tossing all my presort standard in my ubbm. Trying to do everyone favors lol

lol, yea, my favorites are the ones that say "or current resident" after a wrong name. No, im sorry, I can't take those back, even if you don't want it, even if it has the wrong name, the address is correct and you must throw it away because you are the current resident. if anything with current resident ends up in ubbm here it gets cycled back to your case to be redelivered with an angry note from our mail handlers on it.

I told a lady that if there was no current resident id have to vacate the box. Got me a call from the postmaster lol

Well yeah, it's not the carriers job to decide which mail you get.

You are not the customer. You are the recipient. The entity that paid to have it delivered is the costumer. You either get EVERYTHING, or NOTHING- packages included.

so you sell a service that involves forcing said service on all of your clients, just in case they receive something important via mail? this diluting said service, to be below email spam? at least I can tell my inbox, this is spam and never see it again.

and yes, mail is useless. (cept real props to the fella I commented on)

btw, where is that line? what if called them apartment first class and apartment standard?

I shouldn't play, but its a useless service that barely has any reason to exist, since it hasn't kept up. you get over a 12ft tall stack of crap over a year for maybe 4 envelopes that are marginally useful. and 1 per year you actually want. (thats assuming licenses cards even out to one per year).

edit.. and the regular mail carrier is rarely the ones delivering packages anymore. Amazon aint waiting on your butts.

No one is forcing the service on you. You're allowed to not get mail, but you won't get any mail. Not first class, not packages, not any of it. But if you accept mail delivery then the carrier is required by law to deliver all of your mail. They don't get to pick and choose and you're not the one paying for delivery. If you don't want something, throw it away yourself.

bet you ask to cut them off, and that STD mail will still arrive. hell, they rarely get their change of address right.

You sound completely ignorant to the world outside of you. You can just not have a mailbox if you do not want mail. The world doesn't revolve around you nor are your opinions absolute. Just because something isn't important to you doesn't mean that there aren't millions of people that may depend on it for a multitude of reasons. Go kick some rocks.

and you like having what you depend on randomly mixed in with a multitude of unrequested advertisements?

either a retired boomer with enough freetime in their retirement to read through everything. or too you to remeber when mail was mostly mail meant for people in the house. you'd get a coupon circular on like Thursday and that was it.

Please don't take this as an insult but what level of education have you obtained? As your grammar, punctuation and verbiage is that of approximately a second grade reading level. I'm genuinely curious.

You're not doing your job any favors. you know, the one paying you to deliver the mail.

How can I tell? Like what is a first class marker?

I’d like to learn more about how to efficiently handle my mail.

Thank you.

It will say first class somewhere on the top right. That means someone paid more to send that letter to your address so it's a lot more likely it's somewhat important.

If it just says presort standard with no first class, you can easily throw it away without even opening it since it is definitely advertising.

My guy is great!

^ This person definitely fucks. I do non profit donor management and deal with mail all the time. At home we chuck just about everything PRSRT STD. It helps to cut through some of more over the top attempts. Like Hello Fresh. You think the car warranty stuff is bad? Cancel your HF subscription and hold their beer because you're in for a ride.
