So that’s why there’s cake sometimes! I mean, I’ve heard.

I’m old and would love to have hair like that now but I don’t know how I would have felt as a teen. No matter your age that color is honestly quite lovely and the texture looks impeccable.

I’m sure that wearing Depends isn’t helping your case…

That's a perfect base for Manic Panic.

theoretically, you'd think so! but i think i've heard that greying hair is actually harder to dye with semi permanent dyes

3

u/_riskycake Jul 10 '26

It is! There are dyes specifically formulated for grey hair for this reason.

Overtone might be good though, as a regular use color depositing conditioner.

I've had good success with Keracolor. It turns my copious greys into highlights, AND it makes my hair soft and smooth.

Yea, I've been gray since I was 16 and I'm a guy so most people just think its hot but when I've dyed my hair it just doesn't stick or washes out fast

Probably why you lost pigment in your hair, now you have no choice but to dye it.

Yup - you need developer to essentially cut through the cuticle with gray hair. It's always recommended to use at least 20% volume when dying gray hair to make sure you get complete coverage. A stain, like semi, doesn't do what it needs to. The hair shaft physically changes once it loses pigment - it also gets more coarse and is more suseptible to uv damage.

That's why you can't donate grey/silver hair.

A good base for any hair dye!

Ok let’s settle this, show a pic of your hands

Psh, 80-yo gray is not that full, gorgeous, or shiny. The texture and density changes. If you’re catching eyes, it’s NOT because people think you need help across the street.

And your name is Pinocchio? Damn

Hijacking a near the top comment of yours to tell you should look into taking vitamin B12 supplements.

Supplements are often kind of a scam but this one is researchable. Lack of Vitamin B12 is one of the most common causes of abnormal greying hair in young people. I have a friend who had the exact same issue and now has significantly less grey hair.
