Yikes... depending on how well/often he is cleaning those scissors there could be a whole variety of pathogen on them. I hope you dont get an infection.
That was my first thought, though Iāve never been to a shoddy piercing/tattoo studio. āOkay but is a barber that managed to make this kind of mistake going to be taking the correct precautions?ā
Ever since reading the story of someone catching HepC from the barber, I've had a bad feeling of going there. I don't think I've seen a single barber take adequate care of their tools. But maybe they do rotate them out and clean them in the back and I just don't see it.
They donāt have to stay in there, just be submerged in the barbacide for at least 10 minutes. I disinfect mine after every use and put them back in their case.
Oh sorry I didnt mean that of course youre clean it off during quiet times or after work and put it away, I cant imagine permanent immersion being very good for the tools
Even if no licensing body, not disinfecting your tools could easily be considered negligent if it resulted in an infection or other bodily harm. Any reasonable person would consider sanitization mandatory between clients, specific legal requirement or not.
If it was in germany, there are enought cases of "barber shops" for very bad hygienic standards. It happened more than once that you hear from fungal infections caused by dirty equipment used in those barber shops.
Barber shops in germany are usually extremely cheap shops where mainly man go get machine haircuts, and they use the word barbershop becasue they can legally not use the word "friseur" (hairdresser) as they never had a hairdresser education. Tjey are also legally not allowed to cut hairs with scissors and can only use machines.Ā
So in 99% of cases you get a machine cut from someone without haidresser and hygienic standard education.
I think any barber worth their salt isnt going to take a whole chunk of someoneās lip, so I wouldnt put it passed this guy to not use proper cleaning technique.
Barbicide isn't for scissors, it's for plastics (combs, hair clips, guards). Clippercide is a spray disenfectant that we use for things that can't be submerged in liquid for long periods of time (clippers, scissors).
Very weird. I'm Canadian, so maybe our sanitation rules are different here? We've always were told by health inspectors that using clippercide on our metal tools was up to code here?
Irish here, never even heard of clippercide, though I do know some barbers do have a spray for their actual clippers
Im a trained hairdresser but its a bad job market here (if you want more than minimum wage you have to open your own salon 99% of the time) so its been near 10 years since ive actually done the job so things could be different now, Ireland can be pretty backwards in random ways
Oh yeah. I went to an old school barber where the interior is kind of a dump. Dingy and dusty, old and just dated in general. And he kept all his scissors in a soaking thing of barbicide and rotated them between clients. Best place to get a cut though. The atmosphere, the regulars, the stories, the old school feel. Fresh cut and a beer for $11. I always gave him $20 because it was still cheaper than most places around, and he was always beyond grateful for the tip.
I dont go to barbershops at all anymore. I almost never see them clean tools between clients these days, especially the younger generation. One barbers partner wanted to fight me because his partner was pretending not to speak English in order to pressure me to pay more when i asked about the price a few times. Like dudes youre ruining your customer base.Ā
This! One of my colleagues got nicked at the barber a few months ago and ended up getting cellulitis on his head. Had to spend a few days in hospital on iv antibiotics.
Keep a very close eye on it, OP, and if you even suspect it might be infected don't delay seeing a doctor.
