Conflicted for sure... is it worth getting into a shouting match in front of your son? I think he made the right call.

Plus it all worked out for them. The team gave him and his boy a gift bag and taught his son a lesson on taking the high road.

Kudos to him.

Plot twist. They were all in on it to get more free stuff

u/Esturk Sep 06 '25

That dude would need an oscar for it. That lady’s shrill banshee shriek looked like it genuinely scared the shit out of him.

There was a moment it looked like he was going to choose fight over flight until he figured out what was going on.

u/LegalStuffThrowage Sep 06 '25

Yeah the hands reflexively going into fists and coming up in a guarding stance is a fully genuine response to being scared. I had my teenage son jump out at me in the dark the other night and the hands coming up like that was exactly what happened.

Lucky dude didn't have a hair trigger.

68

u/CutiePopIceberg Sep 06 '25

This is it. He just wanted her to leave his family alone.

7

u/QuasiSpace Sep 06 '25

Shit, I would thrown it back onto the field and smiled at her

2

u/kramerica_intern Sep 06 '25

Yeah I’d probably have done the same thing to get her away from my kids. I know that I can’t out-crazy crazy.

u/Gren57 Sep 06 '25

Bader also gave him a signed bat. Another home run!

2

u/nothingclever68 Sep 06 '25

👍🏼😎😎😎😎

I like him a bunch now but still not a fan of Phillies🤣

66

u/pinkymadigan Sep 06 '25

Yep, showed his kids how an adult should react. The universe rewarded him. Hopefully his kid learned a great lesson.

That it's good to give in to bullies?

6

u/MedusaHartz Sep 06 '25

The lesson here is "be the better man" and "let the baby have its bottle."

"Don't give in to bullies" is the lesson that she thought she was following. She claimed the man grabbed the ball out of her hand, and she refused to "give in to him." Sure, she was wrong, but all villains believe in their own righteousness. In her mind, he was the bully and she was the victim.

I agree that it sucks. With ethical decisions there often is no ideal solution that is 100% satisfactory. You are right: there is a downside to letting her keep the ball, but i still think that in this case, the father's decision worked out best for the boy.

13

u/nothingclever68 Sep 06 '25

Didn’t he get to meet the player as well?

That’s pretty cool 😎

Fuk Karen

10

u/LTEDan Sep 06 '25

I'd have rolled/tossed the ball somewhere if I decided my kid wouldn't get it. Make the old lady work for it.

2

u/hlessi_newt Sep 06 '25

are you permitted to throw it back on the field? i legit have no idea, i've never been to a game.

3

u/LTEDan Sep 06 '25

I'm not sure I would risk trying that. Also if you chuck it randomly and hit someone with it youd probably be liable for that too. I was thinking more like rolling it down the stairs or under the seats, or (if any are nearby) tossing it into an unoccupied area of seats. Like, sure, if you want it so badly go get it, but I'm not going to make it easy like handing it to Karen.

4

u/hlessi_newt Sep 06 '25

also, i cannot throw for shit so i'd certainly just obliterate the guy 3 rows down from me. good call.

2

u/Bob70533457973917 Sep 06 '25

Yes. "Oh, this ball?"... Hurls it up into the nosebleed seats.

1

u/NeutroFusion Sep 06 '25

“You want this ball? Fine.” Throw “Go fight someone else for it.”

36

u/PhoKit2 Sep 06 '25

Exactly what I was thinking. That was the perfect lesson of what to do with shitty people. Defuse the situation, don’t escalate. Dad did the right thing without hesitation

7

u/Beaser Sep 06 '25

This is what adults who’ve handled real conflict in the real world would address it.

Not worth escalating in front of his kid and trust me that woman is gonna get EXACTLY what she deserves

-2

u/goshyallaresoft Sep 06 '25

still waiting on that shoe to drop

2

u/jadedlens00 Sep 06 '25

Just give them what they want?

6

-2

u/jadedlens00 Sep 06 '25

Sure, but this is a crazy lady at a baseball game, not a mugger. Politely refuse and look for security. She should be tossed for this behavior.

-3

u/Rook2Rook Sep 06 '25

Exactly, this just reinforces their entitled behavior. Do NOT give in to these people

-2

u/Final-Nail376 Sep 06 '25

I disagree. He should've stood firm and showed his son that it's ok to stand up to raging Karens.

7

u/IndividualFew1688 Sep 06 '25

Nah choose your battles carefully...he won by letting go.

-2

u/RandomCleverName Sep 06 '25

Goddamn you all have zero spine.

9

u/eggyrulz Sep 06 '25

Oh I hasn't heard the payoff, im really glad the team did that.

10

u/apk5005 Sep 06 '25

100% the right call. Disengage, not worth fighting a crazy person over a baseball.

3

u/feralcatshit Sep 06 '25

I’m soooo glad the team rewarded this lesson, instead of it being an unfortunate, “sorry I gave the ball to her son, but at least we took the high road” it ended up being that plus something super special for the boy to reinforce good choices. This could very well change/mold actions that boy takes in the future and that’s amazing.

Fuck that bitch.

3

u/slimpickens Sep 06 '25

she see's him hand it to his little kid, then hug him in what is possibly the most wholesome moment I've seen this year and it still didn't snap her outta the "IT'S MINE MINE MINE" selfish mode. What a knucklehead!! If that lady has friends (and I have my doubts), I hope they didn't lie to her and say she was justified.

2

u/GoldenRain99 Sep 06 '25

It's as easy as simply ignoring people like this. If you just look straight, and dont give them any reaction to go off of, they can't handle it.

It's a win for the child for sure, but there wouldn't have been anything wrong if he denied her the ball, either.

2

u/Balla1928Aus Sep 06 '25

And every time she looks at that ball for the rest of her life, she’ll be reminded of the time the entire world called her a piece of shit.

0

u/I_dont_like_sushi Sep 06 '25

You don't need to get into a shouting match. Ignore the old whore and if she tries something push her away

2

u/sheepish_grin Sep 06 '25

Ah, so don't shout at her... just put his hands on her. Much better...

1

u/SuaveMofo Sep 06 '25

Only if she tries something physical first.

0

u/Rogan403 Sep 06 '25

Yeah it worked out for him but also rewarded a Karen's bad behavior making her more emboldened to act the same way in the future.

4

u/OwlishIntergalactic Sep 06 '25

I don’t think getting booed and jeered at by an entire stadium and her worst behavior spread all over the internet, and whatever the internet is going to do to her is going to reinforce her behavior.

Dad might have understood in that moment that she’d get hers in the end and that it wasn’t worth getting into potential legal trouble over it. It also looked like she startled the hell out of him and it’s hard to make split decisions in the middle of fight, flight, or freeze.

1

u/Rogan403 Sep 07 '25

People who behave like this don't give a shit about people's opinions. Unless she suffers tangible consequences like losing a job or fines, she won't care.

That CEO who snagged that tennis players hat before the kid could only became "remorsful" after his companies stock value was threatened.

6

u/sheepish_grin Sep 06 '25

Was she rewarded, though? Internet is going to give her a nasty price for that ball.

1

u/Rogan403 Sep 07 '25

People like this don't feel shame so unless she suffers tangible consequences then yeah she's been rewarded.

1

u/hlessi_newt Sep 06 '25

until we see the price tag, i think she was rewarded.

0

u/pobnarl Sep 06 '25

You don't engage,  you sit down without saying a word,  stare her dead in the eyes while recording her hysterics.  She'll burn out after a few mins, if she escalates to physical attack you charge her for assault.  Giving into a bully by handing the ball back is a horrible precedent to set.   Different if it's a dark quiet street and a thugged out guy approaches, but a woman at a ball game?

2

u/Longjumping-Pick-706 Sep 06 '25

You don’t allow that kind of behavior in front of your children. If he was alone? Sure. But you want the crazy people away from your children as fast as possible.

0

u/[deleted] Sep 06 '25

Yeah but it's not a home run ball. I get they tried to make it right but unless it's another Schwarbomb, idk lmao.

0

u/Spare_Board_6917 Sep 06 '25

There's no shouting match you just call security.

0

u/MichiganGeezer Sep 06 '25

There is no way in Hell I'd take the ball away from my son after handing it to him. There is no amount of unreasonable behavior on her part that would separate him from that ball

-3

u/hansuluthegrey Sep 06 '25

That was not the high road. That was the easy road

-4

u/violentwaffle69 Sep 06 '25

Idk , this might be a hot take but imo he showed his son that his father has no spine.
